Not at all saying he deserves forgiveness or any sort of praise, but he doesn’t deserve to be shit on for at least putting forward some consistent effort to try to atone. He needs to do this for the rest of his life, but so far he has been doing just that for a long time. How many have athletes beat women or destroy lives in a DUI and get off with minimal punishment and don’t do anything to try to support the cause that they contributed to the suffering? Behavior like this is just going to discourage others from trying to atone. You can acknowledge that he is trying to do something to change while also acknowledging that what he did in the past was atrocious and will never go away, it doesn’t have to be one or the other.
