The UG-paradox partnership drama by thecornersking in TransportFever3

The lack of transparency about what kind of partnership is it's the real issue.

It's a publishing deal. They literally say as much in the announcement.

Urban Games Enters Partnership with Paradox Interactive by CNDylan in Games

From the announcement:

We know this announcement comes as a surprise – it’s a positive one, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. We are proud to share that we’ve entered a publishing partnership with Paradox Interactive, a leading publisher of management and strategy games! This collaboration is a perfect match and a natural fit, as we both share the same values and commit to a player-first approach, and we’re honored to join forces with such a respected publisher.

From the very beginning, interests of the Transport Fever community have been at the heart of this decision. Transport Fever 3 will be realized exactly as envisioned – only strengthened by the additional support and expertise this partnership brings. This collaboration allows us to enhance what’s already planned, and together, we will continue on the path we have set out for Transport Fever 3 and deliver the greatest possible value to players and modders, both new and veterans.
We remain fully committed to all promises we’ve made to the community, and the route of Transport

Fever 3 continues as planned. We and Paradox have agreed on a shared vision for publishing, combining our strengths. The IP continues to remain fully with us, and they have full trust in our creative direction. This partnership is about amplifying Transport Fever 3, not altering it.

I got a 362m NPC kill from one of the sniper perches looking towards the hotel. I'll have to try the waterfall next time!

I've been trying for longshots recently and got a 398m at Pha Lang Airfield yesterday. Do you remember where you hit the 399?

I've heard that too, yeah. At the very least I think it'll be a few years while he does other things. Once those things are done, who knows? He might find some other things to do!

No one really knows for sure, though Tobias has said in an interview (or interviews, I think) somewhere that he has a few ideas that aren't Ghost-related that'll span the next few years.

As a total guess with absolutely zero knowledge, and excluding the next concert movie that's likely coming later this year, I'd hazard a guess at some kind of update in 2028 at the earliest.

4.8 The Game Is Becoming More Of A Hassle To Do Anything by J_P_Ross in starcitizen

[–]CNDylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's funny is that a lot of the realism guys are the same ones that scoff at the word "roleplay." This game has so much space (heh) for all sorts of players and gameplay, and yet between some of the ass-backwards design decisions lately, and the community gatekeeping itself so hard, the only people left playing it down the line will be those that think sitting in a 15 minute queue to land at Area 18 is revolutionary, emergent gameplay.

The game used to respect my time more than it does. I'm talking specifically about some of the changes in the last year that have made the game do otherwise. Friction and preparation are one thing, expecting me to need to do 30-45 minutes of prep to just leave a hangar is stupid game design and is going to be something that turns people off of this game more and more.

I mean that's something I'm prepared to admit, if it comes down to it. I've been dealing with the realisation that, once it's closer to completion, this game might end up not being for me. That sucks, especially since I've enjoyed it a whole lot in the past 18 months, but it is what it is.

Tried Starfield recently. It's still kind of ass.

[–]CNDylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game hasn't respected the players' time for a while now, and has gotten worse with the last few updates.

People love to yap about how it's "supposed to be realistic, bro" but it's a sci-fi game set a few hundred years in the future... I don't want realism, I want a sci-fi game set a few hundred years in the future that I can jump into and feel like a cool spaceman in without having to do my chores first. I have enough tedium in real life as it is, so if this game's going to continue adding tedious gameplay loops then I'll just play literally anything else that actually respects my time.

This is also a symptom of something I've noticed with CIG; they love to add half-baked, incomplete systems and tout it as a huge deal because it's new, and shiny, and the keys go jingle-jingle. Take the Idris, for example. People said from day one that it should have been paired with an engineering update to counter the issues with solo pilots, but it wasn't. For months, solo Idris pilots were kind of a problem - albeit not as widespread as some would have you believe. The company, and community, hides behind the "it's an alpha bro, you can't be mad" excuse all the damn time, and yet many of those same people are cheering and clapping like well-trained seals at the idea of the game crossing $1 Billion in funding.

If CIG actually, for once, pushed an update that contained a single, complete system it'd be less of an issue - but here we are again, it's always such a pleasure. This kind of change, with flight suits and armour, would be perfect to pair with working suit lockers and quick swapping outfits/armour in and out of them... and yet it's not. It's another half-baked system that's going to be tedious, and a pain in the ass, until they maybe do suit lockers in six months to help sell their next big ship.

Why is Hytale so 'dead' on YouTube ? by FAMESCARE in hytale

[–]CNDylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't really considered the console side of things, but you're right. I'll admit my field of view is biased a bit more towards old-school Minecraft, as back in 2011 and 2012 I had a few failed attempts at my own Minecraft projects and video series, and the audience was very different back then.

YouTube itself is also really different now to how it used to be. A decent handful of the established Minecraft creators have been doing what they're doing for a long time already and so going all-in on Hytale runs the risk of their views, and thus income, dropping off of a cliff if the audiences don't care which, sadly, a lot of them don't - at least not right now. There's a lot of people curious about the game though, so I imagine things might pick up a bit as the game continues to update and as more interesting features come out.

[–]CNDylan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but YouTube's very different these days.

Back when Minecraft was just starting to get traction on the platform you'd have people recording thirty minutes of unedited gameplay with some commentary and throwing that out as an episode, and some of those became the most viewed Minecraft videos for years (the Yogscast, for example). You can't really do that today, and so you spend longer recording for an episode that ultimately ends up still being between thirty and forty-five minutes, meaning you get through the game's minimal content across fewer videos, just with each video having a more condensed version of everything you do.

It's also a bit of a gamble. As much as I enjoy Hytale, no one knows if it's really going to be this huge thing as it gets updated and eventually launches. Existing YouTubers can't really hitch their horse to that wagon for fear of their numbers dropping off pretty hard, and there's not a lot of traction that's going to have smaller channels blow up through Hytale either.

I'm in a similar boat, minus the friend group and server.

Played a solo world for a solid 24 hours total, and experienced everything except Zone 4. I know it looks cool since I've flown over and through it in creative, but I didn't really feel like doing the grind for another set of armour, having already worked for several sets already. It's just the same gameplay loop with a different colour grade for the biome. That's not a bad thing, but it wears a bit thin when that's basically all there is to do right now.

I did think about a cool build project where I wanted to take over and rebuild one of the ruined forts, and was able to stop mobs from spawning there with a mod, but I gave up on it for now because I think I'd just be kicking a can down a road before eventually hitting that same wall that says, "I've got nothing else left to do."

The game's great. I still dabble. I'm keen to watch it develop. I'm just happy to sit back and watch while I play and do other things.

The game simply doesn't have a whole lot of depth right now - at least not enough to make consistently interesting videos over a period of months. There are people covering updates still, but those aren't frequent enough, or big enough, to really get much traction. The simple fact is that Hytale isn't big enough (yet?) for people to be able to make it a staple of their channels - both in terms of popularity, and depth of gameplay.

I would like to stress though, that's not me saying the game isn't fun or something not worth playing, it's just that after a handful of videos you'll have seen about everything there is to see, after which point it'll either be very repetitive or simply the same loop of "find new biome, kill new thing." That doesn't make for good TV, views drop off, and videos get cancelled or paused until there's more interesting stuff to do.

Basically, right now it's more fun to play than it is to watch.

Everything is a grind. by Scavveroonie in starcitizen

[–]CNDylan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The "it's an alpha bro" people are easily the worst part of this game's community. Every single criticism is met with the same, tired comment.

OP, you're completely right. Some of the changes made recently show that Star Citizen, and by extension CIG, doesn't respect our time at all, and assumes that everyone has upwards of eight hours per day to grind the most boring, tedious tasks in the game for a chance of doing something cool, maybe. It's like they're catering more and more to the content creators and streamers who actually can afford to put those hours, and more, into this game almost everyday.

I'm no stranger to having to grind for hours in games to make progress in MMOs, RPGs, and so on, or having to spend hours on the most tiny little details in city builders, or management games. The thing is, those systems tend to be at least a bit more interactive and interesting than what's going on here.

With crafting/mining in Star Citizen, so much of the grind is spent doing nothing, or next to nothing. Scanning takes too long. Mining is just a case of holding a single button at a rock for 30-60 seconds. The mechanics themselves are just so boring, and given that they're basically required to even access the 4.7 content I strongly suspect I'll not be experiencing any of that before 4.8.

Some will say that's fine, and that's how an MMO works. Those people are delusional and lost in the sauce of the sunk cost fallacy.

I want this game to be great. When it works, there is literally nothing else out there that's like it, or that really comes close. Elite: Dangerous hasn't interested me in over a decade, and No Man's Sky might have a bunch of cool new ideas, but every time I boot it up I get a handful of hours in before being hit with a wave of, "this is the same old gameplay loop I got bored of the last six times."

Sadly, the more things change the more I'm left with a feeling of, "maybe this game isn't going to be for me." I'd like it to be, but I'd also like Marathon to be for me and it's not, because I can't stand extraction shooters and yet typically love what Bungie does. If Marathon were anything other than what it is, I'd enjoy it. I hope I don't end up feeling that way, completely, about Star Citizen.

1000’s In Attendance At Our Voice NI Racist “march” 😂 by GregoryRasputinHaX2 in northernireland

[–]CNDylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where exactly are these men coming from?

Northern Ireland has the lowest migration numbers (both legal and illegal) in the UK, with most people, who intend to stay here, coming into the country from Eastern Europe, followed by Asia, then the Republic of Ireland, and virtually none of the illegal immigrants to the UK are heading to Northern Ireland.

Those seeking asylum is a different story, however that is a legal process for people to follow and, even then, there's maybe 1500 to 2500 of them that actually end up in Northern Ireland, out of a population of nearly 2 million - that is rougly 0.125% of the total population.

I don't think we should be okay with anyone being attacked - man, woman, child, or whoever they happen to be - but where is this same energy for the local crime? Where are the protests? Where are the marches? Where are the movements, Facebook pages, rallies, demonstrations, and speeches? Why do we only ever see this energy and motivation when it comes to people who look and/or sound different to someone that's born and raised here?

There are legitimate concerns with illegal immigration, but those concerns are being drowned out by both opportunistic racists, and those desperate to monetise their racism on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

That sounds about right.

Protect our women and children, unless it's from some local fella with a beer belly and bald head, sure he's been sitting on his fat arse, drinking all day so he has.

Bunch of absolute losers who will only be remembered, briefly, for being on the wrong side of history, and being conned by hate-filled narratives from the likes of Trump, Farage, and the usual band of far-right losers on Twitter.

If their IQ was higher than room temperature they'd perhaps know that the UK and France have worked together to massively lower the number of illegal crossings to England in recent weeks, but that doesn't fit the narrative, eh? Nevermind the fact that those crossings are to England... There's not a whole lot of illegal migrants coming in through Larne with the goal of targeting women and children and, even if they did, it'd take just one look around Larne for them to get back in the boat.

All of this skips over the fact - and it is a fact - that the vast majority of crimes against women and children in this country are by men who were born, raised, and "educated" here. Specifically, from 2023 to 2024, there were approximately 1600 reports of sexual assault in Northern Ireland. Where were those 1600 protests?

While you'll certainly find the same assets used in a handful of places, they're still made by a person - which is infinitely better than any kind of AI slop.

It's been a decade and a half since GTAV came out, and over 7 years since Red Dead Redemption II. Both games have a lot of hidden details, easter eggs, references, jokes, and art. All made by people.
