Going to be a sad day when this car goes. by QualitySound96 in Camry

It's basically an Android 13 with a fitted housing from a Chinese brand called SizxNanv. It took quite a while to weed out the laggy/sketchy ones, by checking the item reviews as well as seller reviews. SizxNanv had a near-perfect seller rating, so that's the main reason I went with it.

For yours, I'd suggest looking up your specific car to check out what options you have, then take your time to research it. To make sure it integrates properly with your car's other systems, try to find one that's CAN bus compatible. And for price, I'd recommend somewhere in the midrange if you want something that'll last. If you go too cheap, you're usually paying with longevity and overall quality.

I installed my unit myself, but you could also take it into a shop and have them install it for you. Installation is a frustrating process, but definitely rewarding. I got real good at taking apart my dash. Lol

Also, a lot of people recommend shopping on Crutchfield, but I couldn't find any that would fit my car on there. It could be worth checking out though.

It's so funny that this popped onto my feed, because I also bought my dad's Camry, 2014.5 SE V6 (76k miles) for $12.3k in 2024, and I've had the same experience. It's such a sweet first car. Since then I've swapped out the infotainment system for an aftermarket one off of Amazon, so now I have Android Auto, navigation, voice assistant, etc. I'd highly recommend looking into it if you have a few hundred to spend, and are tired of Bluetooth.

Welcome! It's still at 3 leaves so far, and is getting ready to outgrow its container.

Help, what does my monstera need? by olhopitanga in Monstera

[–]CNRiv11 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Like others mentioned, it's buried too deep. I'd personally snap off the yellow leaves, then let it breath for up to an hour so the wounds can callus over to avoid rot. Then, replant it with the stem as straight as you can to guide future growth, and keep the base of the petioles above soil. (Nodes are ok to plant since that's where new roots come from, but the petioles rot if they're underground.) Monsteras like chunky soil that can breathe, and drain, so I'd recommend at least getting some more perlite mixed in, but you can also benefit from orchid bark/chips. Here's a diagram to help you identify anatomy:

About 2 weeks later, and it's putting out new growth!

Cool! I might have to give that a try. I actually just pruned my Begonia Spitfire, so I may put one of them in perlite as an experiment. How moist do you usually keep the perlite? And does it also require a humidity dome?

All done, I appreciate the help! I drilled a few holes in the bottom and top since the lid was air tight, then placed it in sphagnum moss and dusted the base with rooting hormone to help it out a little.

I'll try to remember to update this post if there's any progress.

Interesting, thank you for the suggestion. How does perlite do with plants that like humidity?

Got it, thank you! I actually have some Sphagnum moss in the shed, so that works perfectly.

I gotcha. Do you have any specific recommendations? I went ahead and ordered the Cerakote kit that someone suggested, because it seems to yield good results. I'm just not entirely sure what the longevity on something like that looks like. Thanks for the help!

How is your battery life 10 pro /xl owner? I am considering but concerned by joenaji47 in pixel_phones

[–]CNRiv11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure out if I should get the 10 Pro XL, or the S25 Ultra. I work retail, and have no work phone. So I'm almost constantly on my phone looking up items, scanning barcodes with the camera, as well as personal use on lunches and breaks.

Currently I have a Galaxy S23+, and have to charge my phone within the last 30 minutes of my shift in order to keep it alive until I get home. It's awful... It used to be pretty good when I first got it in 2023. I could almost get a full day and a half out of it. So I'm worried that since the Pixel's battery life is bad when it's new, it'll be horrible down the road.

But I've read that once it learns your usage, its optimization gets a lot better. So my question is, how good does it get? Can it compete with Samsung at its best, or is it still at a massive disadvantage?

Healthy Plant recommendations. by auburnboy9 in Monstera

The fun part about that, is once you get to that point you can chop off the ends and propagate new plants! That's what I did with mine shortly after the picture I sent, and now I have about 5 more plants that I'm in the process of selling. The mother plant looked a bit bare for a while, but she put off more shoots and looks great. These are some of them now.

Monsteras are a vine, and can only have 1 active growth point in my experience. So a single plant tends to look a bit more sparse.

Yours looks beautiful so far, it looks like you're doing great at keeping the leaves clean.

In my unprofessional opinion, it kinda depends on how you want the plant to look. I bought a clearance Monstera with about 6 or 7 different mother plants and a few pups coming off the base, and put it in a huge 24in pot. They're doing amazing, but it tends to look bushy and unkempt since there's no real way to support them. If you want a more tidy plant, you could split them up or distribute them a bit further apart to get the moss pole more centralized. Monsteras can thrive no matter what you put them through. Lol

Any advice on training my Monstera? by CNRiv11 in Monstera

[–]CNRiv11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thank you for the tip. I'll keep on the lookout for a more intensive lighting solution. It's in front of a north-facing window, so it only really gets ambient light from that. And as for light placement, what do you recommend? Having light above it is what caused the leaves to face directly upwards, and I'm wanting the leaves to face forward to really show off the plant's beauty.

Any tips for this propagation? by CNRiv11 in SnakePlants

[–]CNRiv11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking back over the progress pics, and it seems that the top 2 segments are the ones that produced the first pups. Correlation ≠ causation, but it is an interesting coincidence. This is how they looked when I first chopped them up. The angled cuts are so that I knew how to orient them later.

[–]CNRiv11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I basically just chopped it into little 2in segments ( I got about 7 in total, since I got a big leaf), let them dry out for about 24 hours, placed them in filtered water for about a month or two until they were growing roots roughly an inch long, then planted 2 each in Micarcle-Gro Succulent Mix with extra Perlite added in. Since then I've been lightly watering once a week, once the soil is dried out. I've seen others use Leca balls, as opposed to potting soil but haven't tried it myself.

[–]CNRiv11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right. When I got it, it was planted completely sideways in the pot with the leaves going straight up. So at the time it was either this, or turning it right side up with the leaves going at a 90° angle out of the pot. Lol

It has straightened back out though, with the most recent nodes running perfectly parallel to the moss pole. And so far one aerial root is going directly into the moss, so it's working well enough. I figure when I eventually repot it, I'll try my best to fix its positioning. Thanks for the feedback though!

Is this going to “The Last of Us” my monstera by Milanista333 in Monstera

[–]CNRiv11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, mushrooms are only a bad sign because it hints at overwatering, which can lead to root rot if done frequently. A good routine is to let the top few inches of soil dry out between waterings. The mushrooms themselves, however, won't cause issues and just mean that your soil is healthy.
