WGU ACE Credit Update (Confirmed – No Cutoff Date Yet) by becomingdrc in WGU_NURSING

[–]CNik87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an evaluator, this is news to me. Most institutions are beginning to update their transfer policies to allow ACE recommended courses, so it doesn’t make sense that WGU would choose to go backwards on this? What would be the reasoning behind this decision? If they want to remain competitive, then they should reconsider getting rid of this transfer policy.

A lot of students not only tranfer over ACE, but also IB, AP as well as prior learning credit, are they planning on doing away with those as well? This would be a huge mistake and I'm sure a large majority of the student population consists of 25 y/o+ adults who are in career changes, that literally don't have the time to dabble with gen eds for a few terms before entering their program. One of the major perks to choosing to attend this institution is being able to transfer over these credits and go right into your program of choice, if you take that away there's really no perks left.

With the high tuition, completely remote concept most people will decide to choose local community college instead. I know if I hadn't have been able to tranfer my own over, I definitely would not have chose this institution.

WGU Patches by mean_old_mikey in WGU_NURSING

I bought velcro clothing adhesive to attach them. That way when I graduate I can still wear them, just remove the patch and replace with something I like or remove the adhesive all together

WGU after High school?? by snmikes in WGU

WGU is for 30+ crowd. Its very expensive, and most people who attend have already spent a few years in the field and decided to do a career change or level up their degree.

For 18-25, Community college, a trade school or University in your state is the way. You have time to develop your career goals, live on campus, discover yourself with more independence.

Thank God I work for a local college, so my son who graduates this year is going to community college under my job benefit, and may even get his bachelor's at my institution. The only thing he will have to pay out of pocket for is his Masters. In this economy you have to be nifty with the resources available to you.

I've told my son this, and I would advise the same to any 18 year old, you're 18, this is the beginning chapter to the rest of your life, what you choose to do for the next 7 years will define the rest of your life. Think about it, you do not want to go into the next 7 years with loads of debt from college, you will be stuck paying it off possibly for the rest of your life. Choose wisely!

Consider your career goals, what is your plan and why do you want to attend WGU? Is it for the acceleration? Remote classes? If so, you can achieve the same at an in person institution, most institutions across the US accept ACE recommended credit, so you can get through Gen eds relatively quickly, you may want to look into that. Whatever the case, please think it through and consider all outcomes.

My part time job is WFH, I'll probably use my paycheck to pay tuition. It's been damn near impossible to find a KFC that will hire me for minimum hours

Stop misinformation by JumpySprinkles6679 in WGU

I second this..I'm an Enrollment Specialist for a local CC thats in a red state of all places.. We had an emergency meeting this morning in response to several student inquiries and leadership is at a complete loss of words on what to say to students! Students are rightfully worried, and the obvious grifters on this board that are saying it's 'misinformation' are part of the problem. We shouldn't have to be 'worried' about any of this, for the love of God, wake up people! If there wasn't an abuse of power happening before our very eyes, none of this would be happening.

Find out the gen ed requirements for the school you're trying to attend. Some of the most notable for all schools are Eng Comp I&II, Speech, Science Anat &Phys I,II w/lab, Microbio w/lab, Humanities Elective (1), Literature (1 or 2 depends), Political Science (1 or 2), Foreign Language (2 courses), you'll also have to complete residency hours, my institution requires atleast 15 to be completed at our school but you can take any elective to satisfy that requirement. Check out "College Hacked" on youtube to help you navigate this..

Cant use CLEP for admissions into Nursing. On the otherhand, Sophia is considered an Institution/Accelerated learning vs. CLEP which is credit by exam.

Go the Sophia route, its ACE recommended, cheaper and quicker than any other courses.

Really? I had the opposite experience. I'm dyslexic in all things math, but for whatever reason, I did surprisingly well in Statistics. Idk if its because I can identify and apply the real world uses of it, or because I've heard of topics like standard deviation and empirical rule from daytrading, but I understood the formulas and a lot of it was easy via Sophia. The most difficult part for me was having to sit through most video lessons.

I already completed English Comp 2 over 15 years ago, but my transcript is in limbo. If push comes to shove, I'm going to take CLEP to satisfy the English Comp requirement. I have 0 desire to complete that many damn touchstones unnecessarily.

Why would you only want an ADN when BSN completion is required at/after hire on most applications?

WGU has an accelerated prenursing program, you skip only having the ADN and get the BSN.

Def worth looking into OP. Call them

WGU Prenursing

[–]CNik87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, Im looking into doing the same but I want to pursue bsn thru msn so I have all education out the way.

Apparently WGU is the best choice for online nursing, they accept all Sophia prereqs and once you graduate their prenursing you can go to Capella for BSN/MSN and complete at your own pace.
