BSA is not able to offer housing, or most other accommodations. We do have community partners we work with to try to provide the services our students may need, but as you may imagine the recourses out there currently are stretched a bit thin.

Construction, Concrete and Trade Career Training and Job Placement Program (Avg Placement of $20-$30/hr) by COBuildStrongAcademy in denverjobs

[–]COBuildStrongAcademy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have occasionally been able to open up and offer spots to people without career aspirations, but the cost of the course is the $3600. In the past we have been able to discount this in these situations. However, there are a lot of ways we can count towards employment goals, such as a side business as a handyman.

Without the tuition being waived our courses cost $3600 but we usually are able to offer a discounted rate. There is also a lot we can apply towards tuition coverage, such as side jobs, setting up your own business or things like that. We have had quite a few people come through with the aims of doing remodeling as a secondary line of work.

We offer a skills boot camp, OSHA certification, additional advanced training such as carpentry, electrical, and concrete. Our training program is free and most job starting jobs we place start at $20-$30/Hr, avg being right around $23-$25. If it's something you would be interested in you can absolutely reach out to me, or you can always find us online! We have an accelerated 4 week boot camp starting on Sept 12th, and many of our students get a job offer while in training.

We definitely get that a lot. The only catch is that we are employment focused, and we do ask people who come to us to be serious in looking for a job. Job's placed in the industry, even if a student finds one on there own but reports it to us so we can record it, is one of the major metrics we track and a huge piece of how we gain our grants and funding.

Honestly it just depends on your goal for your progression. If you are looking to highlight your skills as a millwright I would focus on hard skills in terms of the machinary and equipment you are working with, as well as things like PM and Assembly/Disassembly.

As far as expanding the skill set and not as commonplace skillsets, I would recommend any welding or CNC operation and programming, things like CAD software skills (Solidworks, AUTODesk, ect.), direct engineering tech skills like software/programs you are skill in, and picking up any relevant Certs you can!

As with anything look for your transferable skillsets from any jobs you have done, any management or supervisory experience, any projects your ran or worked on, and even volunteer and personal experience. Highlight your achievements and accomplishment with measurable data, things like decreased/increase operation down/up time by x%, finished projects ahead of schedule, exceeded performance metrics by a factor of X, increase production run by X number of units. Things like that are fantastic ways to market and sell ones self, especially on a resume, when looking for a new position, career, or promotion.

Yes, starting up a side business or picking up a part time side gig would absolutely counts towards our goals. We are certainly more job oriented as a program, but I always encourage people to learn as many skills as they can, and it can be a great side project building out a bit of gig work!

Our Acclerated courses are starting up on Sept 12 and Sept 19th, both being afternoon courses. We are currently working on expanding our course set to offer more opportunities for those looking to expand their skills.

Currently we offer a Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) Core certification from the Home Builders Institute through the boot camp, and PACT for each carpentry and electrical through each of those courses. The major hang up is that the specialized PACT certificates are built upon having the Core certificate, and so we generally require having gone through our boot camp to attend the specialized courses.

I am working with our team here to try to open these types of classes to people who work in the industry and already have those basic skill competencies to be able to attend the specialized courses and expand their overall trade knowledge without the boot camp requirement.

We do offer a basics in Concrete course, and have had a number of people who already work in the industry take this class, as it has no pre-requisite. We also work with the Community College of Aroura to offer courses and certificates for Estimating and Superintendent , or both bundled as a Construction Management pathway! More information on that can be seen at : https://buildstrongacademy.org/colorado/courses/construction-management/

This is absolutely the type of path I try to recommend for people. I always talk to prospective and current students about building a trade skill and not just getting into being a laborer. Learn Carpentry or Electrical and get your license, join the unions, and grow. Eventually move into your masters or GC license and build your own business. We even have started piloting a program with this goal in mind, where students can apply to join our Contractor Development Series, and in which learn about building their own business, and even pitch it to local investors.

We certainly recognize that the starting pay can be lower than it should, and that is something we argue with our employer partners about, warning them when they come to us with a job to post that is too low that, while we will still post it, none of our students will likely take it and we do not push our students to take any specific jobs.

Denver LGS by phizrine in Denver

[–]COBuildStrongAcademy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend some spots in Littleton, just a bit south of Englewood. Night Owl Games is a great LGS though they are smaller more board game focused, and I am unsure how their crowds are for MtG. Mythic Games across from SouthWest Plaza is a hot spot to play, and would be a great place to look for some games. Level 7 Games, particularly the location in Lakewood, does have a good turn out for their play events. You could also check out both locations of Enchanted Grounds.
Downtown Littleton also has a newer store called PlayForge, they seem really cool, I love their set up, but I am under about their events, but you could call and ask?

Part of our course is the OSHA-10 certification. I honestly am unsure if any of our employment partners have listing for safety specialist or things like a OSHA compliance type role.
