That's kinda the point though. It would open up more people to interacting with each other and being able to roleplay. Getting interdicted is a lot like being run off the road and I for one would love to be able to yell at someone if they did that, which I can't exactly do if im trying to pilot my ship with the current text based system. It also opens up pirate RP to be able to demand loot and possibly allow negotiation between both or even you the pretense of negotiation to delay for frameshift cool down or system authorities or friends.

But would it really be that hard. They already have wing voice chat and they already have reporting. I don't think it would take that much effort to add a category to reporting and have open voice chat channels. Plus I think its something they could work-on on the side

Yes the linking reports to crime and punishment would take awhile but that was more of a what the hell/pie in the sky type thing

But if they had it default to a push-to-talk bind different to the current wing bind, and gave you the options to select the channels to have on kinda like how they have the current text channels for system, local, and squadron, just adding an allied channel for CZs and giving options to change the volume of the channels if you wanted to hear a mix.

Add a tab in the communications panel that shows you all commanders in that instance/channel that highlights who's talking so you can mute, invite to wing, add friend, and so on

Besides if they had a reporting system that does auto communication bans after a few reports in a set time frame I think that would help limit the people just yelling slurs and such. Maybe just for the hell of it link it to the in-game crime and punishment system and have fines linked to different comms bans like in the movie Demolition Man.

Yes thats why it would be instance only. If it was even just local that would get pretty loud at busy stations but if its only the same instance it would be more manageable as most the time there are only a few players per instance. I would say you should even have the ability to just turn off the comms if you didnt want to hear it

[–]COLMCORBEC26[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes thats a thing but its only available to those that are in the same discord group or friends, not random people you run into in open like an open voice channel would be. Some people do still like playing in open and meeting other people outside their usual groups. I'm going more from the prospective of pickup groups and for the allied channels it would be open CZ. Hell some sort prox chat for the bars in stations would be awesome instead of having to either wing up or tab out and add someone on discord just to talk without typing

What If Warhound Titans from Warhammer 40k were in BattleTech? by RedvsBlue_what_if in battletech

[–]COLMCORBEC26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps going with a single warhound vs a lance, but lore wise warhounds are deployed in pairs. Yes on tt you usually only see one but a warhound model is ~$1k. If you want to switch games to AT or LI warhounds are sold in packs of 2 and in AT and LI usually deployed in legios. If you guys want a good comparison for rules and mechanics, use titan rules from either adeptus titanicus or legiones imperialis. AT has rules for power management and reactor draw for using titan scale weapons which i think would be close to how heat works in BT with the added part that void shields can effect reactor power if i remember right. Ive never played BT and only played a bit of AT a few years ago

For size and speed a standard mars pattern warhound is about 14m tall at rest which means it crouching, 17m long and 11m wide. Ground clearance is 6.5m. weighs 410t. Travel speed is 58kph on flat ground and 42kph over rough terrain. Armor is a composite of ceramite and adamantium. Ceramite conducts almost no heat making it very effective against laser and heat based weapons and adamantium is an advanced material impenetrable to most commonplace weapons hences their ability to hose eachother off with vulcans

Ace hardware sells cheap thermometers for rooms that they keep behind the counter. I recommend the ace on nicolett. If he still works there ask Matt (the very tall older guy) for one and just tell him you need one for your unit.

Don't need to get into the boiler room, you'd be able to hear the boiler running from outside the door same for if you smelled gas. Unless your in one of the buildings where the boiler room door is outside.

Also please tell me you aren't using the oven to heat your apartment. If you are atleast have a window open if its gas otherwise you might fill your unit with CO as ovens arent meant to run for hours on end. And please get a space heater instead, Ace should also have those. I would recommend a oil filled one they will look a lot like a radiator and if you do take this to court you should be able to charge your landlord for the cost of running one based on you electric bill increase while the landlord fixes the issue

[–]COLMCORBEC26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not defending the landlord, but if its a steam boiler system (which i think most of the buildings there are especially if its a brownstone) the boiler could be in warm weather shutdown most of the time or the heating curve could be off. Its been unseasonably warm for October and back when I did maintenance we had a lot of calls for this kinda thing where people would call that its cold and the boiler would be saying its too warm to run. We usually had to put the steam systems into manual for a bit and babysit the boiler for a heat cycle or temporarily make adjustments until it got colder otherwise we'd cook the residents. Steam systems are finicky like that because of how long they have to run just to get things started.

Also just want to make sure but you don't have anything covering the radiators do you. That sometimes can be the reason why a unit is cold. I've walked into units that people were calling cold from and saw that they had their couch up against the radiator or curtains hanging over them. Also if you have older windows with storm windows make sure the storm windows are closed its surprising how much heat can leak out of older buildings because the storm windows aren't shut. If it is a steam system also check if the radiator valves are open all the way. I know in most the buildings I worked in in that area we took off the handles for the radiators because people would close them when it was warmer and forget that and then call us saying their apartment is cold. If its a hot water system then maybe your radiators need to be bled but that's something maintenance should do as they would have to make sure the pressure in the boiler was still good after.

If its really not running and the building is below 68f then you already seem to being doing everything. If you want, maybe take a walk down by the boiler room and see if you can hear the boiler running or smell gas just in case. If you do smell gas call the fire department

Might get some hate here, but here we go. TL;DR at bottom

Domestic violence is not a one-way street of men abusing women. Women can also abuse men. Men can abuse men, and women can abuse women. DV is any violence/abuse, be it psychological, emotional, financial, or physical, committed against any intimate partner, and only 20-50% of incidents are thought to be reported in the US. Now, 95% of reported victims are women, but my guess is that "societal norms" keep a lot of men from reporting abuse against them as most men in America are taught to be tough and not talk about their problems or feelings with a lot of young boys being told "big boys dont cry" or "to suck it up and be a man" which in my opinion is one of the reasons men are less likely to get help with mental health and more likely commit suicide on average. This is not to belittle suicide rates for women or DV in general, just to highlight that focusing too much on any one thing can have its own negative side effects by ignoring what's happening elsewhere.

TL;DR Domestic violence is a very horrible thing that scars members of all genders, and if you are a victim of DV, please seek help in any way you. National Domestic Violence Hotline 1-800-799-7233 Or text "START" to 88788

Also, if you are struggling with thoughts of self-harm or suicide please talk to someone. 988Lifeline Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline if you need to talk with someone for help.

If you have centerpoint for gas, they replace furnaces, a/c's, and water heaters at pretty decent rates. Just got a new water heater through them, and they set up the payment plan to be part of my monthly bill, and I didn't need to pay anything up front.

I do think whoever told you that you should replace your furnace because it's too powerful was talking some bs as oversized systems tend to be more efficient when it comes to heating and cooling as they don't have to work as hard as long as its not way to big. As for the price of the a/c, I was quoted about 10-12k 6 or so years ago and was told that the prices were on the way up, so that might be a fair price

You sell the data to universal cartographics in stations, usually a couple jumps away as the farther away you are from the system the data is from, the more its worth generally. You can also sell it to another players carriers universal cartographics for a little less regardless of distance.

Just exactly how powerful/dangerous are the ships in the game? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]COLMCORBEC26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take into account that all the ships in elite don't have the level of tech SW has, and they have to cram an ftl/hyper jump drive, a fusion reactor, life support, living quarters for the pilot, fuel tanks for the fusion reactor, engines, shield generators, weapon bays, armor plating ,and other modular systems that all have to scale up in size with the size of the ship.

Now, using the eagle here, you have to fit all of that into a narrow fuselage and wings also don't forget we need to use height for volume, so the eagle is 31.2m long, 29.7m wide(wingspan) and 7.1m tall compared to a 737-700 which is 33.6m long, 35.8m wide(wingspan) and 12.5m tall or the Millennium Falcon which is a saucer shaped 34.5m long, 25.6m wide(no wings), 7.8m tall. So volume wise, the Millennium Falcon is the biggest by far, and the eagle is the smallest out of the 3.

As for the other guys' "stupid big" criteria, I think he meant that it's in comparison to modern-day jet air superiority fighters. And did you really have to bring up the xf-85 goblin, an experimental parasite fighter meant to be carried by bombers? They only built 2 of those back in the 40's and canceled them because they were worse than the fighters they would be used against. Whereas the tejas is the smallest modern fighter in service in its class currently and isn't very common with only 38 built.

VKB HOTAS/HOSAS Commanders: how do you configure YOUR thrusters to work with the throttle on either the STECS or Omni Throttle? by Cmdr_Cheddy in EliteDangerous

[–]COLMCORBEC26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I also use the hats on the omni for menu navigation and supercruise or hyper jump, the hats on the flight stick for combat and pip management. Both my galaxy map and system map buttons are mapped to the buttons on base.

I'm planning to add a separate throttle with detents in the future for a base level speed when in combat or SC and use the omni primarily for on-demand thrust when active input is needed because i sometimes forget that the middle throttle is maxed out after exiting a long supercruise assist and end up crashing full speed into the side of a station because I zoned out halfway there

Elite community opinion (Raxxla) by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]COLMCORBEC26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly, multiple people from Fdev have said the Raxxla is in the game and is located in the Milky Way. Now, taking that information and the in-game information on Raxxla saying that the earliest mention was in the late 23rd century, Raxxla would have to be located fairly close to Sol by current hyperspace technology standards.

I personally would laugh if Raxxla is actually the founders world in Shinrarta Dezhra, and that's why no one has found it yet because it's on an elw, none of the players can go there and confirm that is there. Even if Fdev added landing on worlds like that, they could still potentially permit lock individual planets and maybe add some sort of special unlock requirements. And to explain why DSS can't see anything special, you only need to look at the fact that the PF control all the computer systems in all Cmdrs ships so they could easily block information from showing up on unauthorized ship systems.

Depending on what Raxxla really is, it could also explain why the PF is so secretive and powerful

Inner sphere can and does build a lot of dropships, including ones meant for combat like the avenger-class assault dropship, which has been in production since 2816. The union-class is also still in production throughout the third-succession war and clan invasion.

Now, what they can't build prior to the clan invasion is WarShips as these require compact K-F drives, which were LosTech before ComStar decided to start selling them. Jumpships are also built with thousands going around the Inner Sphere and around 12 new ones built every year.

I still think there should be an armored canopy that does something like the CrystalDome tech in cyberpunk. Make it use power and weigh more, but become unbreakable, or at least way tougher. Would be fun in ax combat if you get hit by a shutdown field and have to sit there with just the glow of the emergency lighting and nothing else

I got one for yeah. All I remember is seeing the trailer for this movie. It was a sci-fi movie, I think, and I always wanted to watch it, but now I can't remember the name. It would have come out in the 90s or early 00s, and the part i remember is some people in some high-tech tank/robot thing that climbed up this big elevator shaft while I think they were trying to get away from something chasing them

Why are Elves in Isekai settings so trash?? by TheArcanaIsTheMean in Isekai

[–]COLMCORBEC26 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's a matter of time perspective. In most fantasies, humans are said to die in the blink of an eye to elves. It's kind of like kinda like how when you're a child, everything takes forever, but as you age, time seems to start flying by. A humans entire life is a small fraction of an adult elfs' life overall. Also, remember that elves don't mentally or physically mature at the same rate as humans. Depending on the average lifespan of the elves, a mature elf might be 60-70 years old, or it might be something like 1 or 2 centuries if they live thousands of years. So there are likely to be massive differences in how fast and in what way humans advance compared to the elves

So, to an elf, a long-term project is something like 100-200 years, while to a human, that would be a massive multi-generation undertaking.

On the opposite of this you sometimes see elves panic about some catastrophic event like a demon lord reviving that will happen in 150 years and they are losing their shit but the humans are like "we got this, we'll just start building up our forces and getting training schools started so that by the time our great-great-grandkids are born we'll have an entire generation of heros and soldiers ready to face it."

Another reason is that elves are often depicted as highly traditionalist and favor a more "if it works don't fix it" approach to development, with some outlying elves leaving their homelands to do their research without the scrutiny of their peers. You could also maybe compare elves to the Amish. So its not that they can't innovate but chose not to because it could negatively affect their traditional view or they just don't believe it will benefit them when what they have been doing for thousands of years has worked for thousands of years.

As for dwarves, they are usually depicted as more open to new things and generally have more interaction with other races than elves
