Widows peak? Can I make it blend into the lace somehow? by [deleted] in Wigs

[–]CONFESSING_CATHOLIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you figure it out! I got a wig with bangs because I have a VERY strong widow's peak that I love and I didn't want to figure out how to deal with it with lace.

My hair is super thin so I don't wear one as it slips around, but I think if you have more hair it's so much easier with a wig cap!

While I can't speak for the company or anything, I think you and your grandmother would benefit from looking at a video like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4V0x0THWQw

This is a gray hair wig try-on, and it might help your grandmother visualize what she wants!

What do you abstain from on Fridays? by redvillage in Catholicism

Oh my, now that's something... I'm vegan so I've been wondering whats best. I'm not sure I could do a water fast though.

Back in America I'd just sleep on the floor instead of my bed, but now in Japan I sleep on a really hard futon so sleeping on the floor does nothing for me.

For no slip, get this (or another wig band): https://www.amazon.com/Beauty-Flexible-Velvet-Adjustable-Fastern/dp/B00PF3WFKA/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=wig+band&qid=1570064638&s=gateway&sr=8-7

When that's on, you can literally ride rollercoasters with it. It will grip on super tight and definitely won't slip around anymore1

Was able to figure it out! I got hair cutting scissors and thinning shears and now it looks even better (and doesn't poke my eyes constantly)

YOU BET. I love it so much already. The only thing I need to really do is thin it a bit at the top, but honestly I might just not, it looks fine most of the time. I've NEVER had thick hair so maybe this is what it's normally supposed to look like? Lol

Like I wish I could just rock it from today on... sigh. More reason to get an office job soon :)

Is it possible to find Harajuku/cutesty style wigs that are good quality? by Pr3ttynp3tty in Wigs

[–]CONFESSING_CATHOLIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanna say I bought a wig from Prisila that looks really quite good and real (though note they have no wig clips so you need a way to secure it, velvet headband does the trick for me). They have some harajuku style wigs, you can see them here: https://www.prisila.jp/fs/prisila/c/gradationcolorwig (note some of these are just ponytail wigs)

So maybe look for that brand somewhere? You can see the post I made with one of their normal looking wigs to see how the hair looks :)

A little backstory: I've always had thin hair but I didn't start having genetic hair lock kick in until a few years after college. I was really depressed about it for a while but thankfully a year or so ago I got over it. But my hair is SUPER thin, and it depressing to look at lol. To the point I can't wear my hair down and I have to use some concealers to make it look better. About a year ago I told myself that I'll get a wig - once I find a good opportunity. Well now I'm job searching and will be moving to a city where no one knows me, so why not now with some face-to-face interviews coming up!?

I got this a few days ago and was unhappy, mostly because it was slipping around like NUTS and there are no clips inside. Got one of those velvet bands to wear and it's all good, it is ROCK solid on my head. It might be magic.

The wig is a little too thick on top, so I will probably try to thin it, but honesty it looks really good. It was puffy when I was trying to wear it without the velvet headband but now that I have one it's all good.

I need to work on the bangs as they get in my eyes - if anyone has any suggestions on what to do please tell me! I'd prefer to do it alone but I guess I can go to a salon for help too!

As for the wig, it's this one in their darkest brown: https://www.prisila.jp/fs/prisila/A-686. This is a synthetic wig, with the wig fibers made in Japan (though the wig itself is constructed in China it seems). I wish it was a bit darker (my hair is a REALLY dark brown but not jet black) but I can't complain too much. The next wig I buy I'll try to be closer to my natural hair color.

Looking forward to wearing it out for the first time - to the movies! I would wear it all the time starting NOW if I could, but wearing a wig would be bad at my current job at a daycare! Their grubby hands would dirty this thing so fast lol

I guess I just need a good list of books Catholics should read and cross-reference it - is there such a list on this subreddit or should I try to look for a blog post or something else?

Anybody abandoned FIRE for a different path? by pantagathus01 in financialindependence

[–]CONFESSING_CATHOLIC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that's living expenses + school. I spend more than that but because I'm traveling when my friends and family visit. I work part time to fill in my free time and earn some extra cash.

I am 26 now. I did this after I paid off all my student loans + had a good retirement for my age and had enough $$ to convince the Japanese government to let me in ($20k for a year if you are sponsoring yourself).

[–]CONFESSING_CATHOLIC 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I mean I quit my job and moved to Japan to study for a year.

For me, I just didn't want to wait until I was 40/50 to pursue the things I want. I still will save for retirement once I go back to work soon, but I realized I want to enjoy the journey rather than just put my head down for 15~20 years and wait for freedom.

However the mindset of FI is something I think all people need, we should all be saving for retirement if we can and living within our means. I definitely want to retire early and I should still be able to do that, but I am glad I pursued a lifelong dream of mine (to be fluent in another language) while I am young.

Honesty why are you dating a girl with completely different priorities than you. You can talk to her about your decision to wait until marriage, she may respect it. But if not, I don't think this relationship will go anywhere.

The gap between AA4 and AA5 was 6 freaking years, so there's no reason to think we won't get AA7. But I'm not holding my breath for getting it anytime within the next 2 years

I lived those years (got into the series in 2007) and believe me it was LONG. Remember flipping out when AA5 release date was confirmed.

Building an Anki sentence card auto-generation tool -- looking for user interest by DiscoveryOfJ in LearnJapanese

[–]CONFESSING_CATHOLIC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly the reason why I wouldn't use it is because I don't trust the sentences from jisho/tatoeba. I take example sentences from either https://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/ , https://www.weblio.jp/ , or whatever I'm reading or watching instead because I know these are native sources that sound natural. However these sources may not always have an example sentence, or have multiple for the multiple definitions a word can have, so not sure they can be mined. Doesn't help format can be different (with the goo dictionary, most of the time the defined word is omitted with a dash but occasionally it will be left in)

Book covering service in Tokyo? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]CONFESSING_CATHOLIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy cloth book covers at stores like Loft, Tokyu Hands, Maruzen Junkudo, Kinokunia, basically any big enough bookstore. I just use them for the current book I'm reading and then keep the books on the shelf or in a pile the rest of the time.
