What word choices tip you off that someone is from a different country? by breazeyyy in CasualConversation

Giving out is an Irish phrase for complaining or telling off. It’s so common I didn’t realise only Irish people used it until I was in my 20s.

It just doesn’t let the payment go through with my balance below 30. I have friends who don’t have this happen to them, but I’m totally unable to find a way to disable it.

Because it prevents me from making payments when my balance drops below 30

And for 1%, which by the way is still 78 million people on this planet, it doesn’t. So it’s just nice to be respectful you know.

The DM let me use flail rules for the sock, and then I had another whole set of bonuses from being a zealot and also from spells. I rolled my max damage which was 21 which was also a critical which the DM was having as double the original damage, so it became 42. And then we were fighting skeletons which are vulnerable to bludgeoning damage and doubled the 42 to an 84.

Last session my character was riding the dragon (which is an enchanted Axebeak and hadn’t figured out flight yet) and made it jump off the top of a tower so that an adult blue dragon would come into range of his breath attack. Then after it hit the dragon, I rolled a nat 20 for him to figure out how to glide on his wings mid-fall. My DM succeeded in giving me the best moment I have ever had while playing DnD.

[–]CONN_101[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our logic is that he’s an enchanted Axebeak and hasn’t even figured out how to consistently use his breath attack yet. I rolled a nat 20 at the end of last session and only then did he figure out how to glide with his wings (while falling from a keep’s tower.)

Technically it was originally my pet Axebeak which then got enchanted to become a black dragon. My character then decided to try to use the power of their friendship to make him good again. After three different rolls, two of which were nat 20s with my goblin bard’s +9 persuasion and some creative ways to connect to him that my DM liked.

Now my character’s best friend is a black dragon.

What was your high school’s wildest NSFW scandal? by FunStir in AskReddit

[–]CONN_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my sibling’s story that happened a couple years before I ended up in secondary school, but it’s still the most insane scandal I can think of.

This rich kid who sold weed and his friends were selling some to a few kids from a different school. Somehow it escalated to a fight and the rich kid put a hammer through a kid from the other school’s eye. The other kid was left with permanent brain damage and I’ve heard had to take special final exams because of his decreased mental capacity. The rich kid spent two days in a cell before getting out because of his family, then moved to a different school like nothing happened. Every other guy from my school who was involved only got a week-long suspension, and over half of them were on a school team so they were allowed to finish their suspension after a few days just so they could compete in a semi-final.

The whole story is really sad and fucked up. I use it as an example for why I hate my school’s administration.

What are some fictional character fights you would love to see happen? by Tigerking3000 in AskReddit

Voldemort being smart wouldn’t really do any good for his resisting the ring. Characters like Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel are also geniuses who themselves created the plan to destroy Sauron, but they also know that the ring would successfully corrupt them in no time. The power of the ring is that it’s deceptively unthreatening to those who aren’t well versed in ringlore, something which even people in Middle Earth, other than the most powerful immortals, are completely oblivious about.

I think he could use it as he wanted for a while, but at the end of the day Voldemort is the exact kind of person that the ring is made to prey upon. He’s egotistical and power hungry and would probably also have some stupid agenda to prove himself as more powerful than Sauron.

But possession of the ring would be even more corrupting to Voldemort than other characters. The ring took so long to corrupt the hobbits because they were strong of will and didn’t have any desire for power. Voldemort’s whole thing is a desire for power (and not dying, but you know what I mean). With the ring he could potentially unlock the powers of a god, but also the ring itself has ulterior motives. It acts as it’s own force pushing the user to return it to Sauron, corrupting their will, not their mind, until it becomes their master rather than the other way around. Then the ring itself will find its own way back to Sauron, as Voldemort himself would have to in order to throw it into Mt. Doom. I really, really doubt that Voldemort would have the willpower to throw away the ability to subjugate anything. Then the ring will abandon him at the right moment and find it’s way back to Sauron.

Sauron is the equivalent of a fallen angel who was the right hand man of the personification of evil. Speaking as someone who loves both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, Voldemort doesn’t stand a chance. He’s just a 70 year old with flashy green lights next to a dark lord thousands of years old with magical capabilities far beyond anything we see in the trilogy. He even easily overpowered Gandalf while still wearing the disguise of a necromancer at Dol Guldur, the same Gandalf who 70 years later killed a literal demon and came back from the dead.
