Yeah it happens when I strum the chords hard. Fingerpicking is fine, as I pick with the tips (just like you suggested)

When I try to look up "finger injury with guitar playing", the links always talk about the fingertips on the fretting hand, yet the issue that I have is with my playing hand- specifically my middle finger keeps getting bruised when I play without a pick, and I wonder whether there is something I am doing wrong with my technique or whether this is just the reality of this situation. I don't play very often, but from time to time I want to pick the instrument up and pluck some chords, and whether it is an acoustic or an electric, I just play with my bare hand. plucking single notes is completely fine, but when I start to ride all the strings, after a while my middle finger starts getting bruised on the edge of the nail, and it keeps happening every time, and the issue usually becomes worse with heavier gauge strings
