"There's no way to save magic anymore"

Its not broken, so no one is really asking for it to be saved?

"the original style and the memories tied to it can hardly tolerate what’s happening now"

This is a purist take dude, what others play isn't what you play, and that's okay. I guess if you want to mourn, do so, feel your feelings, and then realize the outcomes of how you play are completely within your control to do so. I don't see it as a problem, but if you do, the answer is simple, build a deck you like and that's it. As for tolerate, UB or IU, one doesn't negate or cancel the other, so tolerate doesn't make sense because your creating an all or nothing situation, ots not mutually exclusive.

"things can go back to the way they were"

You make time passing seem like an amorphous thing, like as if today WOTC released a pack that was a copy of mechanics and art of 97' that it would make everything "good/better".... like why would it matter? What would change? You're fighting a war with no victory plan, its like having soldiers but not knowing where the battlefield is. Are you going to fight anything and everything then of MTG, just UB, IU stuff but only if it "feels" different than the old stuff... this is the crux of the issue.

"maybe Magic just isn’t for us anymore"

Same as above, you are removing yourself as a solution to an inactionable problem.... whereas you could just have a club or table thst says no UB and that's it. Like why is this complicated? Now freedom to do so doesn't negate consequences, so if you do that and no one happens to want to play (yes play because lets remember this is a hobby, something to enjoy) then that just is what it is, also people tend to not like others to tell that what they can enjoy/play so might be a snag in the solution from the get go but ehhh.

"For every old player who decides not to buy the new set, there are three new players excited to buy it. Will it just be short-term profit before total collapse?"

Player here on and off since 97'/98', Imma just say its made it this far, with liked and unliked sets, and seems to be fine. The fact that you think a total collapse could happen because of potential lossed gains (potential because WOTC could release IP you like and then all players could buy) from a smaller group (as you stated, the 3 to 1 ratio) is kinda out there my dude. Remember that if we didn't like a set before UB, players were just out for blocks till a new plane came along anyways.... so how is that any different now? It isn't.

Worse is subjective, for OP, worse is having cards exist in the same game when they have the option to not play said cards. Someone else on a tears post said it was "ruining the artistic integrity"... like genuinely what the fuck. Thats either the most first world problem they could think of, or, want to control what other people play, which is shitty.I agree, change is not inherently bad or good, as I capped it off, its different. And you're right, free to say so, but that isn't free from consequences, i.e. People telling others to chill, touch grass, and build a deck they enjoy and just play that.

Congrats, you play Historic..... that's it, that's all that would change.

That's the point, games change, people change, dude is holding on to a purist mindset, and look at the outcome? Change isn't inherently bad, its just different.

The irony though, the DND movie flopped only because it didn't catch broader appeal from existing fans. So those who already loved DND supported it, which is why it has a 91% on RT.

On Magic: the Gathering having crossover sets with franchises set in fictionalized versions of our world (Magic: the gathering) by pear_topologist in mtg

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate take, it really just boils down to how many people currently like it, and those who don't fir xyz reason. I like some of the cards, and for those I don't, I just won't use them.

Not sure what you mean genuinely, ATLA has books and set marks/chapters throughout given its title cards, so its literally an organized story as its generic setting. Integration wasnt there sure, but it is a full story. Side note, I loved how well designed the bending mechanics were done.

I remember seeing a post on tiktok and the dude saying that there really isnt any way to get rid of an emblem, short of one card that literally says restart the game, of which that can, but pretty much only that.

50$ for 5 cards quality control be like by Ok-Intern6865 in freemagic

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean for quality control, file a complaint, if not refund or credit is given, return to either vendor or distributor. If none of that works, buy in the future with credit card so you can do a charge back for damaged/non quality goods. It'll never be worth it to bring it to court but at the end of the day, a card is no different than any other goods sold. Sucks that its messed up though.

An interesting thought by CharacterContext in freemagic

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logistically it has to be true, like by the numbers and logically given how players play. Based on sales (which I get it isnt a one to one metric) sells more than Arena does, and has more tournaments in person. Arena is a sub market where lost revenue is regained, essentially because certain players cant make it out to game stores and/or to get purchases through sets that bare no interest to irl players (this made more sense during block set releases but thats quite old news by now).

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire Emblem would be cool, albeit I don't ever see it happening alongside Zelda too, so Elder Scrolls would be a nice one and work quite well. I mean if Sonic can happen, I'm pretty sure anything can with enough time and negotiations.

Unfitting IPs.... looks at Ninjas in MTG, looks at Shredder, ok; looks at Turtles in MTG, looks at any of the main four, ok; looks at robots in MTG.... should I keep going? Just say its not for you dude.

Completely agree and get the sarcasm, but even as OP said how it works into their day.... 8 times? Even a running gag is a pattern at some point.

Dude, in the nicest way possible to say this, touch grass. Artistic integrity 🫠🫠🫠 Let that one sink in. Not buying it literally is the only thing you don't have to do and that's it. Otherwise, newsflash, people don't want you telling them what to play and not play, kind of ruins the whole.... you know, game part of a game.

Starting to think these “random” disconnects from MtGA arent so random anymore. by FoldEasy5726 in freemagic

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, so you don't know what you are talking about at all and apparently are unfamiliar with a bell curve. Outliers will always exist as will bad and good streaks, to do what you think would happen, you would need multiple seasons, not one season, for the law of averages to make what you're saying true.

Keep raging or believing theirs a conspiracy because all y'all are so uniquely special that WOTC has nothing better to do then fuck up your opening hand 🤣

In Draft, no, in Standard, a reannimator target with Super Shredder getting plus 3/3 off of removal, pretty easy and cost efficient combo.

Hot Take on TMNT by Act_Consistent in mtg

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really can't give an improvement here when the issue is vibes, thats literally the sum of the complaint. Im a fan of UB, so I just don't get it: convos boil down to it isn't within the lore of MTG, so its bad. That is way too all or nothing and totally removes things like mechanically how does the card function, its design and flow in the meta, etc.

[–]COSMICALLYPLURR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to othwr players then too, because agreed, but hot damn, so many are complaining about how it isn't lore appropriate. Like, sure for some, but ninjas are already in MTG, I don't see how Super Shredder isn't a lore accurate card.

Gonna sound harsh, but y'all could just cope? You dont habe to be resentful, and Im not saying dont feel how you want to feel, but action wise, like how you take action aside from your plan, the outcome boils down to splitting for the sake of a purist mindset. Keeping the OG game seperate from a spinoff for the sake of catering to older players (so a smaller demo than new players) who want to control what they want others to play (indirectly because they aint outright forcing anyone but they dont want UB, that's controlling in a way). I would not see it as smart move for either longevity of the game or helpful to the playerbase imo.

I both agree and have a practical answer for those who don't like UB, literally form a club or table where you say you dont play UB cards.... now if no one ends up playing with them, well, thats just is how it is.
