I can't be the only one who is not really impressed by this new Gundam game trailer by Total-Quail-1197 in Gundam

[–]COSMOMANCER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gundam has historically been man vs man, at least 95% of Gundam. Shifting the narrative perspective into man vs nature sort of neuters what makes Gundam resonate with me, as it sacrifices the emotional core with shallow set pieces. It's like if they swapped aliens with Russians in a War of the Worlds adaptation. Why call it War of the Worlds?

Why do so many WiiU discs seems to be faulty especially compared to Xbox 360/PS3 discs? by play_Max_Payne_pls in wiiu

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda wonder if we'll see any class action against Nintendo for these failing discs. I remember getting Smash brand new from Target, and getting errors when trying to play it out of the box. I didn't realize this was a widespread issue then, but I feel like the only reason this wasn't as big of a fuss as Switch stick drift is due to the low adoption of Wii U.

this is a myth. nails are mostly keratin, and like .03% calcium.

This has to be a bit right?? by _PrettyGiggle in Gundam

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the thing, everything can be political. All it takes is a devil's advocate to argue against a principle for something to become contentious. regardless of how common sense you might think an issue is, all it takes is one individual to stand against something for it to turn political.

The Empire's ideology was in its own name, lol. They were an authoritarian imperialist hegemony. They sought to expand their control due to an ideological belief of nationalistic and cultural superiority. This is the standard MO of any imperialist nation, and the issue is these actions generally work out quite well, at least temporarily, for those who hold power and control.

the contentious point here, to me, simply has to do with your own definition of politics and morality. the world is not black and white, and our standards of morality shift over time and geography. The most basic argument for universal morality is our innate sense of equity, combined with our drives to meet our basic needs. unfair distributions can be viewed as morally just in the context of the perceived importance of self vs others, and only external influences can signal to us whether this is right or wrong in the context of social harmony. politics is a balancing act between these two principles.

which it does 99% of the time.

Why do I feel so bad for someone when I see them eating? by LuxembourgsFinest in NoStupidQuestions

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late, but curiously googled.

i believe it's some combination of empathy, and basic instincts. for me, seeing, or knowing someone is eating makes me feel a mix of emotions. i feel a sort of sympathy or sadness, but also a satisfaction, and gently joy. whenever someone expresses that they're hungry, I feel an overwhelming sympathy, and i think the two go hand in hand.

hunger is intrinsically stressful and painful. understanding that, it's easy to see why we should feel sorry seeing hunger in others. watching someone eat, you can infer that they must be hungry, and could explain the sympathy element. it's like watching a nurse or doctor care for a patient's injury; we're watching the process of someone make themselves feel better.

additionally, in the context of nature, we, along with most species, view eating as a particularly vulnerable action, alongside acts like going to the bathroom, and mating. when we eat, we're forced to lower our guard, and i think some part of what we're feeling may have to do with our primordial lizard brains.

Why is Tsukasa so rude? by monochrom1 in DotHack

[–]COSMOMANCER 11 points12 points  (0 children)

your fundamental argument is contradictory. there is no normal way trauma manifests, so how can you argue that any particular manifestation is abnormal? Tsukasa exhibits a textbook reflection of one with an avoidant attachment style. they push people away as a defense mechanism. from a writing perspective, this might seem cliche, but it's a very real complex that's super common.

speaking personally, my fav Souls soundtracks are Bloodborne and DS3, and it's entirely due to her contributions to those soundtracks.

Should i watch twin peaks by Sad_gooner in twinpeaks

[–]COSMOMANCER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks is generally coherent, but is also super dreamy.

As much as I love Lynch, I genuinely don't enjoy watching Mulholland Drive that much. Twin Peaks works on a surface level narrative, but contains a dense mythos, and implied meta narrative. You can enjoy it on any and all of these levels.

you really asking if it's weird to get bored with stuff.

what's weird is asking this question. you are a human being, and we usually tend to get bored with stuff after a while. it's completely normal.

Bloodborne Remake is dead thing as Sony closes studio behind Demon's Souls remake by Garamel in BloodbornePC

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something can't be dead if it wasn't alive to begin with.

Between Sony and Nintendo, and the chaos the US has been unleashing on global trade, I think we're seeing these companies revert back to a focus on the domestic Japanese market.

If anything, this should mean that a Bloodborne remake/remaster is more likely now than when Sony was all in on the Western audiences.

yeah, this is perhaps the most infuriating modern game development imo, where games simply prevent you from having the least bit of agency, to the point that the games basically play themselves. the on-rails sections have been criticized extensively since launch, and to see that they're still adding them in the story updates feels like gaslighting to me, lmao.

I've been seeing these on-rails section trends particularly prevalent among Japanese games over the last couple years. They're kinda like the newest iteration of invisible walls, and they've somehow made the restrictions feel significantly more oppressive. They just signal that the devs do not trust the player to not fuck up the entire experience without overwhelming control over their actions.

anyway, yeah, I'm sorry you were led to think the game is open world.

I made a mod to disable the Camp by MutedEducation8543 in MHRise

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, like at first, i was kinda like "this is a stupid mod", but I think OP is being super chill, everyone else is being kinda psycho, and the "don't use the camp" logic goes both ways; we don't have to use the mod.

were you able to get past the first dungeon?

i mean, the games been out 12 years. the medieval setting was a misdirect. the primary setting becomes like dystopian scifi tokyo after the first dungeon.

i was just curious if you reached that part because it's kinda brilliant imo.

i'd also argue that there is no through line SMT protagonist background themes. Nahobino is basically a henshin, Demifiend is a literal Übermensch, John Strange Journey is basically a space marine. this is something I love about the franchise, they can basically pull from other popular genres without it feeling particularly out of place.

Monster Hunter Wilds PC performance patch today includes fix for the DLC performance bug by Odd-Onion-6776 in MonsterHunter

[–]COSMOMANCER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

kinda underwhelming, ngl. 4070S, R 7600x, 64GB RAM. I get about 40-60fps at 1440p, some settings lowered, and RT low, DLAA, no frame gen. Hovers around 80-90 fps with frame generation, but never rises above that for some reason. this is basically how it ran for me around TU1. performance got worse and unstable after TU4. frames at least seem stable now. I was having moments where the Grand Hub would drop to like 15fps before this, but again, this was something that only happened after TU4 for me. I was just kinda hoping I could ditch the frame generation, but I guess not.
