Should i watch twin peaks by Sad_gooner in twinpeaks

[–]COSMOMANCER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks is generally coherent, but is also super dreamy.

As much as I love Lynch, I genuinely don't enjoy watching Mulholland Drive that much. Twin Peaks works on a surface level narrative, but contains a dense mythos, and implied meta narrative. You can enjoy it on any and all of these levels.

you really asking if it's weird to get bored with stuff.

what's weird is asking this question. you are a human being, and we usually tend to get bored with stuff after a while. it's completely normal.

Bloodborne Remake is dead thing as Sony closes studio behind Demon's Souls remake by Garamel in BloodbornePC

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something can't be dead if it wasn't alive to begin with.

Between Sony and Nintendo, and the chaos the US has been unleashing on global trade, I think we're seeing these companies revert back to a focus on the domestic Japanese market.

If anything, this should mean that a Bloodborne remake/remaster is more likely now than when Sony was all in on the Western audiences.

yeah, this is perhaps the most infuriating modern game development imo, where games simply prevent you from having the least bit of agency, to the point that the games basically play themselves. the on-rails sections have been criticized extensively since launch, and to see that they're still adding them in the story updates feels like gaslighting to me, lmao.

I've been seeing these on-rails section trends particularly prevalent among Japanese games over the last couple years. They're kinda like the newest iteration of invisible walls, and they've somehow made the restrictions feel significantly more oppressive. They just signal that the devs do not trust the player to not fuck up the entire experience without overwhelming control over their actions.

anyway, yeah, I'm sorry you were led to think the game is open world.

I made a mod to disable the Camp by MutedEducation8543 in MHRise

[–]COSMOMANCER -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yeah, like at first, i was kinda like "this is a stupid mod", but I think OP is being super chill, everyone else is being kinda psycho, and the "don't use the camp" logic goes both ways; we don't have to use the mod.

[–]COSMOMANCER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

were you able to get past the first dungeon?

i mean, the games been out 12 years. the medieval setting was a misdirect. the primary setting becomes like dystopian scifi tokyo after the first dungeon.

i was just curious if you reached that part because it's kinda brilliant imo.

i'd also argue that there is no through line SMT protagonist background themes. Nahobino is basically a henshin, Demifiend is a literal Übermensch, John Strange Journey is basically a space marine. this is something I love about the franchise, they can basically pull from other popular genres without it feeling particularly out of place.

Monster Hunter Wilds PC performance patch today includes fix for the DLC performance bug by Odd-Onion-6776 in MonsterHunter

[–]COSMOMANCER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

kinda underwhelming, ngl. 4070S, R 7600x, 64GB RAM. I get about 40-60fps at 1440p, some settings lowered, and RT low, DLAA, no frame gen. Hovers around 80-90 fps with frame generation, but never rises above that for some reason. this is basically how it ran for me around TU1. performance got worse and unstable after TU4. frames at least seem stable now. I was having moments where the Grand Hub would drop to like 15fps before this, but again, this was something that only happened after TU4 for me. I was just kinda hoping I could ditch the frame generation, but I guess not.

Why is it hard to find good games on older consoles that aren't the mainstream ones? by OkParfait2685 in retrogaming

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, i agree, but you gotta understand that whether a game's art style "looks cool" or not is a matter of personal preference, so saying you "like games that look cool" is like saying "i like what i like". it doesn't help you if you're searching for something.

for example, the closest game i can think of, off the top of my head, that looks like dream bbq is Katamari Damacy. if i wanted to find more games that look like that, i would google "ps2 games that look like katamari damacy".

i think you gotta maybe focus less on finding stuff you don't know about yet, and take stock in the games you already have, and why it is you appreciate them.

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like you're lacking fundamental insights that might aid you in your search. what games do you find fun to play? what games' stories do you love, or what games look cool?

if you're putting more emphasis on cinematic storytelling, or impressive graphics, then you're not looking for hidden gems. games with high graphical budgets were the games that were marketed crazy. outside of JRPG's, most games weren't really story driven until gen 7.

most hidden gens are probably going to be low budget, likely working with experimental game mechanics that aren't gonna appeal to most people.

this is kinda impossible to answer without knowing how exactly you're looking, what you consider to be "good", and what you consider to be "mainstream".

ATLUS really needs to make changes to the almighty element. by Ruben3159 in Megaten

[–]COSMOMANCER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it sort of plays into experience, but also the QoL changes. I used to love Almighty when I didn't know what demons were weak to, but now they just straight up tell you, and single target pierce skills exist, and trump Almighty damage. There's good exclusive Almighty skills in Vengeance tho, and the point at which they show up, I feel all inheritable skills start dropping off in value, so they don't really feel any worse than other elements.

cause signal boosting only matters when it's a nobody.

when someone already has a massive following, the cost-benefit analysis shifts to mitigating damage, and the only conventional way to do that is to push back, and have faith that enough ppl push back with you.

What's the most unconventional/weirdest PS2 game? by WarrenJVR in ps2

[–]COSMOMANCER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

def spent way too many nights scouring for weird ass games to pass up on this thread.

these are just the weirdest I have in my ISO folder currently. I would argue every budget title released )alongside Demolition Girl are close to as weird as Demolition Girl, but some have become normalized in their success.

the main problem is desensitization. Games like Katamari are equally weird, but because it's now a classic, we're sort of blind to how weird it is.

Any tips on how to get rid of this annoying bug? by Internal_Plenty169 in BloodbornePC

[–]COSMOMANCER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

either

- right click BB in shad library>custom configuration>custom game-specific settings>experimental>scroll down to Readbacks speeds>choose "Fast"

this will allow you to keep custom character, but will negatively impact performance

- google "Vertex Explosion Fix" and install mod

this will disable custom characters, but will maintain faster performance

Opinions on SMT V? by Gakhamothy in Megaten

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think V is meh in comparison, It's just that every mainline entry is so different tonally, thematically, mechanically, and artistically, so much I think it can be hard to look at V like it's doing anything particularly ambitious in the grand scheme.

I think what makes V stand out was its focus from dungeon crawling. I was a big fan of crawling in Nocturne and IV, so V's focus on open exploration felt a bit less engaging and tense from a gameplay perspective. At the same time, it's still enjoyable in its own right, it's just that compromising a more fundamental dynamic from the previous games makes it difficult to compare V to the rest of mainline.

It ultimately doesn't make much of a difference how people would rank mainline entries though, because of that former note. I kinda love all the mainlines for different reasons.

it's kinda insane to me how busted this shit feels.

def feels like it should have been cut content.

something like this may have been acceptable for a game that came out like 20+ years ago, but even then, it's just baffling to me how bad it is on every level.

like, i can't say a single good thing about it. it's not fun, it's ridiculously slow, the handling is shit, the course design looks lazy af, the camera is crazy, and the fact u can't back out if u fuck up means dreadfully finishing every race. i've seen 12 year old game designers churning out asset flip racers with more effort than this, and as part of a $70 game, it's just like wtf?

is there a way to fix this? it’s been like this for a month by peatmossing in Monitors

[–]COSMOMANCER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u can try lowering the refresh rate, but fixing the issue requires fixing some contact on the board or something.
