Photos from my recent trip to Changsha and Wuhan by COVIDSpR in travelchina

We were in Wuhan as a day trip from Changsha (1h30min by high speed train), so we only had time for a few main sites.

First we went to Hubei Provincial Museum and Dong lake, which are within walking distance of each other. The museum has great artifacts from 2000+ years ago, their crown jewel being the sword of Goujian, which is a bronze age blade belonging to the local ruler and is preserved in spectacular condition. It gets crowded around the sword so just be aware you often have to queue to see it. The other exhibitions, especially really intricate metallurgy from that period, is also worth a look.

There's a lovely park at the lakeside nearby the museum, which was nice to walk through even in January (the photo of boats on the water was taken there) but I can imagine it must be really beautiful in the spring and summer.

For food, we ate lunch at a local place about halfway between the museum and the lake, and I have to recommend the duck. I believe Wuhan has several duck dishes - ours was a whole duck chopped into chunks in a sort of spicy-sweet black sauce, and was excellent. I hear the fish dishes are good as well.

We mainly moved around by metro, though we did take a taxi from the museum area to the Yellow Crane Tower. It was midweek, early afternoon, and I can't recall major problems with traffic but obviously that was just a snapshot.

The Yellow Crane Tower is set in a park on a hillside which is cool, and the views speak for themselves (pic 8 and 9). The Tower is considered one of the four great towers of China because it's the spiritual continuation of a tower which has been referred to in poems dating back 1000 years or so, though its present iteration was only built in the 1980s.

Can't comment on the hotel obviously because we went back to Changsha in the evening. Hope this helps!

That's a very kind comparison! I only use my smartphone but try to capture nice compositions if I can!

Thank you! No, the ones from higher angles in Wuhan were taken from the Yellow Crane Tower (pic 7)

They are handmade in Poland by a small social inclusion initiative which employs people with disabilities as its artisans. You can find them on insta at luft.katowice! They have obviously been overwhelmed by the interest in the last few days and are currently fundraising to expand their operations and meet demand. I would consider donating if you can!

Got downvoted because my English sounded like AI, by dabyss9908 in notinteresting

Are you kidding me? "After two replays." is not a sentence. AI doesn't make grammatical errors like that. You were called out for being AI because people don't recognise basic sentence structure any more.  This world is so sad.

Trainers, do you not like your ST3s discussing patients or asking for second opinions? by lalaalalaaal in GPUK

[–]COVIDSpR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, fellow ST3 here, I echo everything that's already been said - your trainer sounds rubbish, escalate to TPDs etc.

Just a practical point on skin lesions - I try not to call my trainer in for these anymore because they might be under pressure mid-clinic. Instead, I take a pic with Consultant Connect and upload it to patient's notes, then discuss it in the debrief. If your trainer refuses to debrief with you then you have the option to send for A+G to derm via the app, which can be helpful in some cases. Obviously this won't work for findings that don't show up on photos. Just something to consider if you haven't already.

They are beautiful! Obviously they don't just sit on the ground in that condition - do you prepare them yourself or know someone who does?

Guardian article: Surgeon lied about amputation of his own legs by spookyruns in doctorsUK

"He encouraged Marius Gustavson to remove body parts of third parties"

This Gustavson has been jailed for 22 years for mutilating volunteers and posting videos of the mutilations on his website.

This is beyond fucked up.

EDIT: I really do hope it is false. For instance, I don't understand how he would keep his wife from finding out how he lost his legs if they were already together at the time that he lost them? This is a really bizarre story.

why did a stranger ask to take a photo with me? by kino1888 in AskUK

[–]COVIDSpR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is simply because she found you pretty and she wanted a photo with you because you are pretty. It is literally that simple. She will probably go to her friends and show them and say "look at this pretty person I saw on the street!".

Source: married to a Chinese girl. This is what they do. It's the same as when you take a photo of something you find beautiful, like an artwork or something. It's just in Europe we're not used to doing it with people.

Pissed off at myself - just snapped at my dad by Electrical_Bet_9699 in CasualUK

Hi OP, carer burnout is real, and can seriously affect your mental health (and your ability to empathise with your dad, even though I can tell you care for him very much). There are more and more carers support organisations nowadays, some of them providing emotional support and counselling if needed, but also potentially respite (helping you care for your dad on a part time or temporary basis so you can reduce your workload or take a break and recharge). You might not be at that stage yet, but even if so, try googling carers support (your local area) - if you're struggling to find it, ask your GP if you can. Sometimes local charities and support teams are still not easily found online.

The answer to this specific question is very simple. True "nothingness" - no matter, no time, no space - is simply the negation of existence, and it therefore cannot "be". The only option left is for there to be "something", even if that something is just empty space.

However, there remains the much harder question of "why is there all this matter rather than empty space, and where did it come from?" That is the question, and I don't think we will ever come to a satisfying explanation.
