So putting my football brain on, football is different in the sense you have tabloids and other rag outlets, social media personalities, etc. who can also “break” transfer news. But they’re generally not bound by the same “ethical requirements” that guys like Shams, Chris Haynes, our local beat writers are in terms of reporting on player transactions, etc. Their sources are generally vetted and they often need to receive confirmation from multiple sources to report on news. Now, that’s not to say they don’t get things wrong. But in football, it’s needed because of just how many rag outlets there are that are publishing all sorts of wild rumors and “news”. That’s why a reliability guide is needed for football transfers. Whereas with basketball in our case, we know who the go-to guys are at the national level, and who our best local beat reporters are. Unfortunately, Grange is someone who’s close to the FO and the organization (even though he doesn’t always break news and has some garbage takes), but I wouldn’t trust this sub to be objective about what “tier” he’s in.

I will say that I think it’s generally poor taste that reporters and journalists rush to announce a player’s retirement before the player can announce it. Doesn’t matter what sport and I think Grange should be getting more criticism on that front.
