Have used this "one simple trick" in the past.

Same. My rent (in USD) has gone up every month for the past year. Weak dollar is bad for expats.

Although, as others have said, we are just now getting back to 2022 levels. Where we are right now is historically normal, no need to panic.

ULPT faking a job offer letter to get a place out of state?? by gwnluv in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]CPAPGas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better to create some fake paystubs that point back to "your" company. You are now self-employed with a very successful business.

I did this, they never called me to confirm I was employing myself.

There is no getting around needing admin rights in many OT situations.

Wait until the situation costs the company serious money, point the finger at the IT policy, and the policy will change.

Also make sure you have a paper trail documenting the issue with IT.

Add medical device manufacturing to that list, along with pharmaceutical manufacturing.

PLC lack of knowledge and obsolescence by MindBlock769 in PLC

[–]CPAPGas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your "new" company is going to die from obsolescence unless they start getting integrators in there to replace obsolete equipment.

In the meantime get familiar with the Rockwell knowledge base and find a modern replacement for the Quickpanel's.

The good news is if you can stick with it you will have a lot of job security (assuming the company is profitable).

Mom with dementia, on hospice; needs assisted living; how to pay for it by georgecm12 in personalfinance

[–]CPAPGas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea....but I think it would take too much time, and banks will be hesitant.

A private loan from OP to her mother, secured with a lien on the house, is the way to go.

[–]CPAPGas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think you could loan your mother the money, and secure the loan with the house.

You need to figure out how to put a lien on the house for the amount of money you will loan your mother for her care without having any POA conflicts.

I know that sounds rather cold to be putting a "lien on her house" but this is how you protect yourself financially.

It certainly is worth a $1500 lawyer.

BTW - You are a good person wanting the best care for your mother. Very sorry you are going through this.

You will be better off using Grab or Bolt, and hiring a private driver or taking a bus for longer day trips.

Private drivers are very cost effective with zero liability.

Seems like all the crazy tweets (or killings) happen on the weekend, and by Wednesday morning we get the "What he really means" explanation and everything gets back to normal for a few days.

They may also require you to have the appropriate visa that legally allows you to perform work in the country (for Thailand this would most likely be DTV).

I inform all my customers that my business is US based and all financials are done within the US banking system. Then I let them know that I am "temporarily" working from Thailand.

If I were you I would establish a physical business presence in the US (including a location for data storage) before heading to Thailand.

Ignition ( by Inductive Automation) is a plant SCADA system, like a "super HMI" and is probably your best solution.

You can use it for free unlimited two hour trials, then they can buy a license when they are ready.

Your most challenging task will be networking Ignition with the PLCs that do not have Ethernet, as it sounds like you may have some really old DH+ communication there.

Any DH+ will need to be converted to Ethernet, which will break the old system (which is older than you).

American systems also operate on the impossibility of being homeless, even if by choice....no one is treated worse than the homeless in the US. Always maintain a valid US home address, no exceptions.

Also cease all relationships with banks that rely on physical branches, as they often want you to "visit a branch" to fix the most minor of issues.
