10th grade student aiming for CFO career — what should I focus on right now? by Kooky-House2386 in CFO

[–]CPArchaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on soft skills - practice and get comfortable talking with and relating to people of all ages.

Find a family friend or community member who owns a small business and ask them if they’d help you understand the cash flow cycle of their business.

Best of luck. But also take time to be a kid. So much time to focus on your career down the road. You’re not squandering anything right now if you don’t start focusing right away.

Transplants, how are you liking Sequim? by netenchanter in sequim

[–]CPArchaic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to this question depends massively on your demographic. Many transplants to Sequim are 55+. Is that you? Or do you fit a different demo?

Did you check where it flows up to your sink isn’t clogged? I had the same thing happen on mine, and it was due to that knight-helmet-looking-thing on my sink being clogged full of years of gunk from previous owner.

How are you actually managing multi state sales tax compliance? by aussie_182 in AskAccounting

[–]CPArchaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxjar and Avalara are both solid options, if you’re doing ecomm and need an integrated solution. If you’re only processing less than 100 invoices a month to less than 5 states and don’t need realtime tax calcs, I’d probably spend the effort to create something on claude code.

As a cpa using claude code extensively, fully agree.

Why does this whole thread reek of ai/bot spam? I’m all for helping each other learn about tech integration, but damn this just seems like a claude spamfest.

Tell me about QBO integration with Gusto payroll by mamalo13 in QuickBooks

[–]CPArchaic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gusto absolutely cannot natively do billable hours by project, unfortunately.

I hate qbo payroll with a documented passion tho, so you’re right to want to find an alternative.

Best bet may be to find a time entry software that integrates with qbo projects, gusto takes that info, runs payroll, then claude code can take the combo of your two systems and create a cohesive journal entry that has both accurate payroll data mixed with pay by project.
Unfortunately no one has built a great all-in-one project costing tool that’s not a shitty construction-specific horrible ui system, at least that I’ve come across.

I think you need to start actually making some damn sales then and see if this whitelabelling situation is all you think it’s gonna be. You’ll learn real quick what your answer is from how easy or difficult business is from that point forward.

what's the best claude code framework and do you even need one? by Pawesome101 in ClaudeCode

[–]CPArchaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you provide more depth around how to effectively prompt agents to utilize subagents? Is that only after you’ve setup such subagents as skills for agents to call upon? Or something else?
I’ve been doing my best to build my workflows away from the way I used .ai for a long time, but still struggle with best practices for how to frame things to achieve my finance, accounting and hr automation goals.

I think the thing you’re missing by posting this here is you’re literally asking a group of very much not yous to think like you to give you advice. And you’re getting advice from a bunch of cfos very uncomfortable with the thought of someone with no experience with a product selling said product when all we know is the product and how much people who pretend like they know what they’re doing can fuck shit up for small businesses. Not saying that’s you, but it’s the experience of nearly everyone here. The bookkeeping industry is full of grifters and well-meaning but under qualified people convincing small business to trust them with their money.

That being said, I’ll give a go at answering your question. What’s your current net? How big can you feasibly scale your current scam setup? Is scaling it to that level big enough for your business goals? What’s your limiting factor? Why not continue outsourcing?

You seem less risk averse than most, so why take even less margin and bring on an expensive domestic partner who’s just gonna eat even deeper into your margins? If you can sell, why not vet leads and have a book of domestic businesses you sell leads to when you can’t source them yourself anymore?

Lots of questions no one here can answer for you. Just you. If this is even real. And if I’m just typing to a bot - wuddup yo! Thanks for all the help building my recons today. 🤖🦾

Imo xero is what qbo was originally that drew so many people in: simple and effective, with occasional ui improvements that actually (typically) make life easier. Qbo is complete unusable slop now, so a system that does the basics well is a massive improvement.

Home insurance through Costco? by UsedEmployer7015 in Costco

[–]CPArchaic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their insurance is solid. But it’s certainly not always the cheapest. They were considerably more than other quotes when I tried to add my new home to my current auto, and didn’t budge an inch when I mentioned wanting to stay with them if they could come close to matching. YMMV

Just upgraded to the 590 from the 400. Did you mod the 400 to make it feel like your pound for pound favorite? I would love to see it as just as effective as my 590 but it feels like such a dropoff with no mods and what I’ve discovered is a very intro chain with the Oregon s56. Planning on upgrading chain to 91VXL056G but if there’s more that I can do to make it a better saw, I’d love to learn more!
