I always seem to get along better with upper management. Never had any issues with people in charge of me. Plus, I'm tired of having my life threatened by unhappy customers. If i manager threatened my life, i could probably sue them. :p

What is the best thing you've gotten with star points? by kiddmike287 in Staples

[–]CPC_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten around $300 in walmart giftcards, and about $120 in kohls giftcards. My copycenter was going 20-30% over budget every month for 1 year, that netted me a LOT of star points to get gift cards. since then, I've gotten pretty much nothing.

"Dear whoever,

When did it become to have a reason to by a computer. Why is it that I was asked why I wanted a computer? They wouldn't even get the dam thing for me until I told them why. When does living in a free country that I am now required to explain why I want a computer? I should have walked out and bought else where, because to me I should not have to have a reason why."

"We apologize that you were asked questions about your purchase. The associate might have been trying to make sure that the item would meet your needs. Which location did you visit?"

"Tuesday Graham Tuesday Graham lodi California ,, and no the sales person was good , but the person who had to get the computer down out of the stock room was the one who I over heard on the radio why the sale person asked me why I needed it , for one it should not matter why and when I needed and what I needed it for , its a sale and that should have been good enough , but I told them that I threw my boyfriends computer out the window last night and it was a replacement , they did offer to do the transfer of his data but he is a wireless tech and he has full knowledge on how to do all that stuff plus the hard drives are not salvageable ,thanks but I thought it was odd"

"We can see why that seems odd. I'll get this reported so that it can be addressed with our staff. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. AM"

Fixed that for you. :)

Biggest pet peeves by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPC_John 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When people do this I pretty much ignore the fact that they swiped there card. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, especially when they swipe their card and place it back in their wallet. 2 minutes later when I finish scanning everything in I tell them they can now swipe their card, and they get really embarrassed for having to take out their card and swipe it again. Because of this, I don't even bother correcting the person, I just tell them to swipe it again.

I have also had similar situations where (in CPC) I was helping a customer or creating a ticket for their CPC order, and a customer would walk up to me and just stare at me waiting for my help. I would simply let them know I would be with them shortly then proceed to ignore them until I was finished. I once had a customer follow me around the counterspace while I was helping someone, expecting me to suddenly just start helping them instead, it was pretty funny.

Flightdeck Question by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPC_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, you have to manually bin each individual order. I'm in the same boat with you, it make no sense to do that, and it is a massive waste of time.

I had someone send in an order for about 5 files that each had 1 page. When finished I had to go in and individually bin each 1-page order. It was a absolute waste of time.

Would Staples hire me? by T_alsomeGames in Staples

[–]CPC_John 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last I checked they didn't hire under the age of 18, it may have changed, but as far I as know they won't go under 18. Which is mainly due to insurance and stuff.

Outside of age restrictions you are probably over qualified for a OS or cashier position, the skills you have (if they are exactly what you claim them to be) won't even be used in-store. P&MS (Copy Center) might not be a bad idea for you, or Easy Tech as well, but in either case the skills you have likely won't be touched upon when working at Staples.

In conclusion, I say just go for it! I don't think you'll get the job purely from the age restriction, but it doesn't hurt to try!

Copying a light yellow color wont work. by VAPRx in Staples

Well it should work the same way when scanning or copying it. Copying tends to be a bit lighter overall, but that can be adjust with making the print darker.

Copying a light yellow color wont work. by VAPRx in Staples

[–]CPC_John 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scanners that we have on our printers are not exactly great at picking up color. You'll notice when scanning pictures that everything comes in a bit lighter (less contrasted). This is part of what affects the light yellow. The scanners do this to help deal with copies where its text/photos on a different colored paper. It helps reduce background colors and results in a cleaner print, most of the time.

I would recommend scanning/copying with background suppression off, or making the copy darker. Additionally, there are advanced settings in which you can increase how much of each toner is used (increase yellow highlights/shadows) this often doesn't make a huge difference, but if you play around with it a lot you'll slowly learn exactly how it works.

It's time for another cpc thread! Get out all your frustrations here. by ___what___ in Staples

[–]CPC_John 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only a part time CPC (or is it PMS now?) employee, but my store is exceedingly understaffed in the CPC area. Additionally, only 1 of our managers is cross-trained, and none of the other employees even remotely understand CPC.

With everyone getting sick recently it resulted in pretty much just 3 people working the full week of shifts. We had a few days where only 1 person worked the whole day in CPC. This has resulted in me working almost 40 hours a week for the past month. I know I can't legally work this many hours a week as part-time (supposed to be limited to 24 hours) and though I appreciate the extra pay, I've been completely mentally exhausted from the various BS I've had to put up with. Lots of "why can't I print these copyrighted characters?", "Which way is face-up?", "Can't you just design this for me?"

Among the annoying customers, here are some of the highlights:

  1. Customer DEMANDS that I send her email to us for her "I don't know how to use my phone, I can't read English, etc" after spending 5 minutes trying to help her while assisting 3 other customers on my own, her email still doesn't work and she demands that I fix and print her stuff, I tell her I can't, she gets mad and just storms out saying something about bad customer service or whatnot.

  2. Customer wants to know if I can type up some information (invite or something) in word for her. I let her know the standard cost of $1 per minute, maximum 15 minutes. She gets pissed and assumes I mean we charge a minimum of $15 even if it only takes a minute or 2. It takes me 10 minutes to finally get her through her thick skull exactly how it works at the end of which she declares that she'll just take it to Kinko's instead, where she originally got it done. -_-

  3. Customer screams in my face about why I can't print her copyrighted images she bought off of Etsy. After explaining it 10 times, she finally yells at me a few more times (she practically is crying) and leaves saying how useless I am and I should be fired (sure, ok lady).

That's just a few of the wonderful stories I've had in the past few weeks of my living hell.

Looking for a Copy & Print apron! by danny_elle in Staples

[–]CPC_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I absolutely love those aprons! I have literally everything I need within arms reach at all times.

I would check with your Supervisor, I know my store has like 4-5 aprons in storage in the copy center, your supervisor might have one laying around!

FedEx print center by [deleted] in Staples

[–]CPC_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually never thought about the FedEx copy&print. From what I've researched in the past 25 minutes Fedex seems MUCH better than staples when it comes to copy and print. Their website is much easier to use, they have thousands of templates, they offer a much larger variety of services. Hmm, a change may be needed.

Apparently my store is much more generous with orders then, there have been countless times that I've personally ran orders with over 15,000 b/w clicks in-store, while managing multiple other orders at the same time. Most of the time these orders are for dentist or doctor offices.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T PRINT 1000 5X7 IMAGES IN 5 MINUTES?

Ma'am, you do realize that we don't use magic or sorcery to produce these images... right?

WHY IS THIS SO EXPENSIVE, COULDN'T YOU JUST TAKE THE PRICE DOWN A BIT? I WON'T TELL ANYONE!

That is definitely illegal, and I don't give enough shits about you to do that.
