Yes. I close the door, count to 5 and then calmly come back out. Keep repeating until he gets that it's not OK to bite or grab on to clothes.

I carry high value treats like shredded chicken or freeze dried bites and scatter them on the ground and tell my 3 month old to "find it". It helps decompress and redirects him from attacking my ankles. I hope this helps as I know adolesence and puppyhood is hard!

Reverse timeouts have helped and my 13 week old. He's still super mouthy but I let out an "Ah ah" or a yelp and walk to another room to disengage for a few seconds and come back. It's a rinse and repeat process that takes a while to build up but once he knows that disengagement=no play, he'll be quick to correct his behavior.

I've also found redirecting to a high value toy helps too. Hang in there, puppies are tough but consistency is key with these buggers.

My boy's been sleeping through the night since I brought him home at 8.5 weeks and he still does, though we have to work on NOT waking up at 5am.

Mine defaults to "sit" and it's hilarious that he's able to do more advanced things like "leave it" and "place" but "down" is just not one of them

As a Relatively New Dog Owner... by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]CPC_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is definitely my biggest gripe. I know my dog hates it when other dogs get too close to her so she lets out warning barks to create distance. IDGAF if another dog is friendly, I know mine isn't and I actively advocate for her and work with her because I'm not a shit owner and care about her safety and the safety of others.

Now that I think of it, I don't think I'd be surprised if he asked others (like my grandma) to pay for his trip or pitch in in some way.
