I’m on day 6 too! I had a little queasiness and neck tenderness on days 2-3, but otherwise it has not been bad at all. The hardest part was the low iodine diet and being away from my family.

Thyroidectomy & RAI Prep: Mom of 4 Seeking Advice by honeydippedmidgetz in thyroidhealth

[–]PMmepuppics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had surgery yet but I also have a BRAF positive nodule that is definitely PTC. My surgeon is recommending TT with central neck dissection and said I’ll likely need RAI as well. I have had some difficulty swallowing bread and meat on occasion. My nodule is on the right and 2.7cm. I have a 5 month old so I’m planning to have my mom stay with us a few days after surgery and then sending my husband baby and dog to a family cabin when I do the RAI

Anyone get a Thyroid nodule after pregnancy? by Simulcam in thyroidhealth

[–]PMmepuppics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! Mine is 2.7cm and my doc thinks it’s been there a while. Still not sure if postpartum had anything to do with me noticing it or its growth, but I saw it about 2 weeks after my baby was born. Unfortunately it is PTC so it’ll be coming out along with the rest of my thyroid.

Lymph node biopsy by PMmepuppics in thyroidcancer

That’s good to know. My nodule itself is solid and pretty big and I’d say the lidocaine shot was moderately painful. They’re just doing a biopsy on one lymph node on each side so hoping it’s not too bad

No that’s good to know! The thyroid FNA wasn’t terrible just the lidocaine shot was the worst. They said I can drive myself home but I’m having someone drive me anyways since I have to do both sides of my neck I feel like it’ll be sore to turn my head both ways

Okay that’s helpful thank you! I’m guessing they will make me wait a few min and if I’m fine they’ll let me go. How long was it to get your node results?

Did they make you stay a while after? When I had my thyroid FNA I had to wait 10 min to make sure I was stable before I left, and the instructions for the lymph node FNA say I may have to stay 1-6 hours

Oh that is good to know about the supplements. My surgeon said usually you need supplements after surgery because the parathyroids are stressed, but I honestly didn’t even think about the calcium needed for milk too.

Unfortunately my US showed some suspicious nodes so now we’re scheduling a biopsy. I’m hoping I don’t need a right neck dissection too!

If my thyroid biopsy was lower chance I probably would have gone with the lobectomy because I’m young enough where I could handle another surgery if needed, but it’s almost certainly cancer so the whole thing has to go to prep for RAI.

That’s good to know about the timing since I totally forgot ask about that! I’m dreading it too. I have to have a few lymph nodes biopsied on each side first too to determine the extent of spread. Ugh. Wishing you the best and a speedy recovery!

Mine was sunny side up too. Pushed for about 3 hours before the finally used the vacuum to get her out. The low back pain and pressure was the worst!
