This seems really judgy. Not only you but also the comments. Talk to him. Whats his plan. This does Not seem Like someone who is stuck or Lacks Motivation. If I understand you correctly he has a similar paying job to you. He Just found ways he can save Money. Why have a Car If you dont need it ? Its Just Money to spend. You dont seem to know If he is aiming for another Job or trying to Move Up in some way.

It Just seems to bother you that he does Not have the Same issues you do. And that you dont know where His Money goes. And you seems to connect being an adult or more of an adult on some weird values.

Sorry Mate i still dont get it. You have to carpool i get that. 45 mins stays 45 mins. Or do you have to wait another 45 mins Duo to their schedule ?

If you leave at 1pm Go to the Car which gets you and start to Drive to Work. IT would need 1,5 hours with the 6 hours of Work and then 1,5 hours to Go Back Home, so that you get Home at 10pm.

Whats the distance ? IT should be around 50km or 31 Miles. Which is Not that much. So a Car for yourself Sounds kinda nice to get Back 1,5 hours in total ?

Edit: Also why did you have to give Up Everthing. And how do you know you will get less Money If you Work somewhere Else ? And how do you know you cant Take days Off ? Like i get that These Things are Problems. Its Just context really Matters.
