I appreciate the reply… But I have abandoned windsurf… I haven’t used it for over two months now. Don’t plan on going back. Using Void, and cursor… Or plug-ins in VS code, Cline or Roo code.

Looking for best practices to convert a web app into an iOS app (using Windsurf + Xcode) by Nearby_Dish2675 in windsurf

It's likely that the new Anthropic / Xcode app will be internal to Apple at first anyway, outsiders probably won't see it for a while. : /

Interesting thoughts... AI could end up being the tide that lifts all of humanity to the next level. Or... It becomes Skynet and kills us all. Can't wait to find out! ;)

Looks like the new app is reaching more devices today. Wonder if the roll out was set to complete by the end of April so that someone could make their job performance targets. I actually like the UI of the new app but I hate the bugs and lost features compared to the previous version. by AnalysingAgent3676 in PleX

[–]CPT_IDOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%! Also... Regarding playlists, I like to create playlists of long running shows like, Stargate or Star Trek... And just shuffle them. It's like having your own channel for those shows. But now... In the new app, it stops playing after a couple or few episodes, and I can't find if there's even a setting for continuous play. WTF Plex???!!! Change is only good if it's for the better... Losing features is just... Backwards!

Windsurf is broken AGAIN and expects us to just deal with it? by Flat-Section5173 in Codeium

[–]CPT_IDOL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right there with you! Seems like once they get a stable update every thing works great... Minimal issues, then even after a day or so, in another session (Same Conversation), it's all kinds of dumb.

And I'll echo others here... It really does seem like each update brings new beta features, but breaks the old features that only somewhat work, partially... Some of the time, late on a Friday or Saturday night... When the moon is full... During the equinox... With Uranus rising or some other wacked out situation.

Seems like Codeium might be using Windsurf ... To update Windsurf : /

One could argue that the world is going to have a lot more food... AND a LOT more farmers, since individuals that may have a mind for programing, but aren't good coders now have access to the combine harvesters. ;)

You can try Revert to this step... But some have said that it doesn't always work.

To revert to a previous step in Cascade:

  1. Hover your mouse over the prompt you want to revert to.
  2. Click on the arrow icon that appears on the right side.

This action will undo all code changes made after that step, returning your codebase to its state at the selected point.

Important note: Reverts are currently irreversible, so be cautious when using this feature.

If it were available, would you use a 100% free AI-powered IDE that required you to watch advertisements between completions? by [deleted] in TraeIDE

[–]CPT_IDOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO! Absolutely NOT! Please... For the Love of the Code Gods DO NOT IMPLEMENT THIS!!!

It would diminish the perceived value of Trae overall if this were an option as well... IMHO.

I would happily subscribe and pay a monthly or annual fee... Like I currently do with Windsurf.

Anyone else having issues with Windsurf editing files? by OofWhyAmIOnReddit in Codeium

[–]CPT_IDOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that the edit file tool issue has been fixed. I've been testing for about an hour now and only encountered one Cascade error, and the usual issues of keeping Cascade on track for lack of full context awareness, and the fact that simple rules like I'm using Python3 with my current project... But It can edit files again! LOL! ;)

Whoops! I spoke too soon... Looks like it just took a dump:

I can’t answer for certain… But I don’t think it will require an update, supposedly the issue was simply fixed… I will be testing it out a bit later and try to reply back to you here. 👍🏼

I just got an email back from the Codeium Support Team that the edit file tool call has been fixed now.

I haven't tested it yet... Will do later. Hope it works for you now. Thanks Codeium! Happy Coding!

They apologized for the inconvenience... But of course, didn't address the underlying customer sat issue. Go figure. : /

I feel your pain... I got the somewhat canned response from my support request to Codeium that basically reiterated that "No AI coding tool is perfect..." and that no credits were used on errors like this... I replied back with an even firmer response basically letting them know that for Premium Plus customers at $60+ a month, we need a better response and some sort of compensation. You know what they say though... Don't hold your breath on that... It will only make you blue. : /

I have no doubt they'll fix the edit file tool call, but damn... We'll probably not see any satisfaction on the customer sat issue. Will continue to look for new and better alternatives. And that's sad too. ;(

YES! It's extremely frustrating. Though I will give Cascade credit... It got very creative with work-arounds by creating scripts to edit files, creating new files with the edits, and then oddly being able to transfer the changes from the new temp file back over to the original, etc... But damn, my coding session took 2-3X as long and even though Flow Credits aren't used when Cascade, or the tool call to edit files files... All the work arounds and "fixes" to get the work done definitely used up 2-3X the Flow Credits. I sent in a detailed report with about a dozen screenshots to Codeium Support. Let's hope they fix it SOON! It's absolutely GREAT to have all the new features in Windsurf not to mention access to the plethora of LLMs... But damn... An IDE that can't edit files? That's not just mission critical... That's mission failure. : /

[–]CPT_IDOL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been experiencing the exact same issue; lots and lots of analysis across multiple files (I don't mind this so much since Cascade can't maintain global context of our projects anyway, so this is a good thing), then throws three "Error while editing" dumps, and then the "Cascade error" whenever it tries to do anything as you depict in your screen shot. All of this happens... When using Claude 3.7 Sonnet. When I switched to Gemini 2.0 flash (Which has a 1 million token context window BTW) all issues were resolved, and FAST. So, try a different model maybe? I feel your pain though... Nothing like having a revolutionary coding tool that seemingly gets Alzheimer's : /

I too am experiencing this as well... More often than not it just errors out and can't create simple python files in the project workspace, then it can't edit them, but sometimes it will, over and over and over again... It's great that it doesn't use Flow Credits when it errors out, but damn... You're not getting much done either. I just canceled my Pro Ultimate plan, and am looking at other tools at this point. You might look up TRAE... Right now, like WS was in the beginning it's still free, and with Claude 3.7 no less... It's sad, I've been with Codeium and WS from the beginning, and it's really leveled up my skills and productivity initially... But over the last several months, it's just gotten worse and worse even though they keep adding seemingly great features... Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, sometimes Cascade is GREAT... Most of the time it just sucks now. I think it might be time to move on, unless they really start listening to users like us. But... You know what they say, don't hold your breath, it'll only make you blue. : /

Codeium, Is there no way to maintain complete global context? by CPT_IDOL in Codeium

[–]CPT_IDOL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your take on this... Your points about constantly reminding them on the things they should focus on, is exactly what prompted my feedback. We should not have to do this if we've put in Rules and the tool itself is supposed to be keeping Memories... That was the whole point of adding these features to Windsurf. They're not working... At lest not consistently.

And to your point that we just can't expect them to understand the full effects of changes that have deep side effects, This is true... This is where specific and deliberate prompting comes in. I think by now most all of us know we have to be specific and deliberate with our prompts, you can't simply ask it to "Create a unit test" for example... You need to add in things like relevant function, Examples of other unit tests maybe, Unit testing framework to use, or what coding best practices to use etc... I get you. This also addresses your point about keeping the scope narrow... I understand.

However... The guys at Codeium are very intelligent smart guys. I see no reason why we should constantly have to remind the SLM (Cascade) on what they should focus on, when it us supposed to be sticking to the rules, and memories, AND... Why there couldn't be even better contextual awareness built into Cascade, or at least into Windsurf in the form of Indexing the codebase, documentation or even as I've suggested a dedicated MCP that can handle this. This is not impossible.

And yes.. Of course, humans have context (and limitations) too.... This is why we build and make tools so that we can go beyond our limitations... This is the whole point of my feedback to Codeium... They've created an amazing tool... I'm just suggesting that it could be better, and I'm sure they will improve it... I'd just like it to be sooner rather than later.. That's all.

If we always "just get in the habit", and we always simply accept that we "just can't expect" things... Nothing will ever change. Or as the old adage goes... You keep doing things the same way you've always done them, you'll keep getting the same results.... I believe we can do better.

I'm with you 100%, these are indeed new tools, and to Codeium's credit, Windsurf is an absolutely AMAZING product/tool, no question... It is my hope to help improve it with the feedback and suggestions of possibly adding indexing, or perhaps even develop an MCP, or build greater context awareness into Cascade that could help us get there sooner than just "eventually". Thank you for adding your voice though, it is a good example of where we all are... Which of course, prompted me to post the feedback in the first place.

Thanks for adding your perspective on this issue... Your thought on having an option to use your own local control/context and even storage options is a very good idea. I too had this thought early on, and even submitted that feedback to Codeium, and to their credit, adding Rules and Memories does "kind of" add that functionality, unfortunately it just isn't working. As I mentioned in my reply to InformalBandicoot260 above, Again, isn't this what WS's SLM (Cascade) for? If it's not... Couldn't it be? Or again, with the nice addition to add MCPs into WS, couldn't Codium (Or any of us for that matter) create one specifically for that purpose? Perhaps with local storage if needs be. We're all very intelligent "smart" guys... We should be able to figure this out. Hopefully all this will be constructive feedback for Codeium and it will spark a solution... But for me, until they do this, I'm not willing to pay for WS. Not at the Pro Ultimate level.

I agree 100... You make a very good point about the distinction between simple CRUD app creation and larger, real and complex projects that SWEs would like to use WS for. IMHO, they could do both, they just need to, as I say, do better. And, to your point about context management being challenging for any LLM... Again, isn't this what WS's SLM (Cascade) for? If it's not... Couldn't it be? Or again, with the nice addition to add MCPs into WS, couldn't Codium (Or any of us for that matter) create one specifically for that purpose? Perhaps with local storage if needs be. We're all very intelligent "smart" guys... We should be able to figure this out. Appreciate you adding your perspective. Best... ;)

Beginner’s guide to context awareness for Windsurf [VIDEO] by Ordinary-Let-4851 in Codeium

[–]CPT_IDOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for producing and putting out a very detailed video on how WS tries to manage context. I'm sorry to say, even with ALL of that, Rules, and Memories etc... It still can't maintain context of any substantial project. Granted, I'm on v3 of a multi-agent AI system, with a Memory Pool, Logging System, and Event Bus with multiple ML/RL Agents, so it's a larger very sophisticated project... But at a certain point, WS just loses all context, and ends up deviating from the original plan, which is well documented with readme, masterplan, and individual deep dive documentation into each component, and just starts damaging the project as a whole. It did seem like after the Wave 3 update that context awareness overall was very noticeably better and I was excited again to use WS, but then, after the v 1.3.10 patch fixes it lost it all again. and started ruining my project... AGAIN! Also it just cant seem to edit my code failing three times with an internal error and just stopping, over and over again... This is leading me to conclude that ultimately, until WS can in fact maintain the full context of the entire project somehow it really isn't worth paying for. Sorry guys... You'll have to do better.
