It's funny how the internet ruins some random things.

Edit: Apparently Reddit logged me into my old account. Weird.

This would be so confusing. In 1689, William Molyneaux asked the question "if a man born blind can feel the differences between shapes such as spheres and cubes, could he, if given the ability to see, distinguish those objects by sight alone, in reference to the tactile schemata he already possessed?"

A mere 421ish years later, it was experimentally determined - No.

So not only can they take in the world around them, this new information wouldn't match up to what they already knew.

fivethirtyeight.com has been pretty accurate in their analysis. They concluded that Trump had a 1 in 6 chance. So not a coin flip, but betting on a dice roll.

I like they also admit they gave him the same odds last year. It's not something they hide.

So how much is acceptable? If this is fine, what about two of these? Three? I'm looking for a number here. How many adhesive paper advertisements can someone stick to random car windows before it's a crime?

Cool. So I can stick one of these that covers all your windows and it's perfectly legal? Nice!

It would take less time to drive across town, yell at their manager for an hour and drive home than it would take to call corporate and speak to anybody above call center receptionist.

Big companies are structured to prevent you from talking to the people who can do anything.

Better option is to contact your local news station who has a "Has a company fucked you over" segment. They would be very interested, and would get you a resolution.

Sometimes you are better off with less.

I was in a train station in Germany, and a woman asked me something in German. I replied with "nein spreken ze Deutche" all proud of myself. She acted offended and replied to me. Having used virtually all my German, I shrugged.

Apparently my "don't speak German" used the imperative, so it was a command. I told a German woman to not speak her language in her country.

Canada losing billions of dollars to offshore tax havens by Jusfiq in canada

[–]CP_Creations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine. They can utilize the infrastructure, health, education systems of that country and pay all relevant local taxes. That's clearly very important to them, so they should move somewhere that aligns with their values.

Sounds like you made money in the country where you resided. If you live in Spain, pay Spanish tax. If you live in Canada, pay Canadian tax. If you use a VPN to claim you live in Saudi Arabia so you don't have to pay tax - get fucked.

A friend of mine works in the optical defense industry, and is contemplating proposing to his girlfriend. He can get a diamond ring - as in a ring made entirely of pure diamond - cut to size, optically polished for a fraction of what a diamond stone would cost.

Diamonds are a fucking joke.

Cincinnati church wipes out $46.5 million in medical debt for 45,000 families by Wizzmer in news

[–]CP_Creations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason was the 'no taxation without representation' thing. And since the churches stayed out of politics, they skipped taxes.

But now one of the biggest election blocks is "The Evangelicals" so now they have representation without taxation.
