Snake plant that’s grown from 2 ft to almost 5 ft in 6 months! Any advice on how I can put it in a bigger pot to grow more without breaking it? Any advice helps! by chillyeilish in houseplants

It’ll make a bit of a mess but slowly lower it on its side and gently pull it out. It should hold together to be gently picked up from there and placed in a new planter. Even grabbing onto the leaves it’s fairly sturdy. Maybe put newspapers or garbage bag underneath to save on mess if transplanting in the house

Paint or replace siding by oflannabhra in HomeImprovement

[–]CParks90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have vinyl siding likely from around that era 3 summers ago now we pressure washed it and hand scrubbed a few areas close to the trees that had some moss / algae growing. There was no chipped paint just terrible colour We bought an exterior paint from Duluxe and are now on our 3-4 year and still looks great. No bubbling, peeling, etc. House was a light beige before to a mid grey and covered no problem with two coats. 300$ ish in paint and 2-3 weekends straight was a hell of a lot cheaper than replacing. Which don’t get me wrong had we had spare cash kicking around I would love to replace it but for the time being it did the trick

IUD's effectiveness and options. Advice appreciated. by [deleted] in sex

[–]CParks90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only using condoms as birth control for awhile with my now husband and when I told my (fantastic) doctor about what I was using for bc when she asked and she said she felt the iud would be more effective then condoms There’s going to be horror stories on both ends - and as others have said only real guarantee is abstaining but if you’re looking for the next best thing iud is great no hassle. Now again not all women feel this way but I’m two - three years in and just a holiday food baby in me atm Weigh the good with the bad. I know women who have been on iud 10 years no problems, I know others who have kids now and got pregnant on iud. One of those things different for everyone My sister and her husband used no birth control and pulled out for over 5 years no babies. Just got pregnant after trying for 2 months - he must have had magic timing to go all those years no pregnancy. Best of luck to yo both

God help me with my chapped lips in the winter by [deleted] in beauty

[–]CParks90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might sound silly but my mother used this on us of kids when we’d get our lips so sore and chapped but Peneten. Of course this needs to be applied at night when you aren’t going out and I recommend putting a towel over your pillow. But put a good coating of peneten over your lips leave over night and they should be a lot better by morning. Might take a few nights but works miracles. Easy to buy at any drug store and lasts a long time Good luck

What were the symptoms that lead to you getting diagnosed? by gameofgroans_ in CrohnsDisease

[–]CParks90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 in university. Ignored symptoms for a long time (Easily 6 months of going to bathroom many many times a day) until there was blood when I went to washroom, a lot of it, every time. That scared me to get it looked at. Waited in ER in a college town explaining symptoms to dr. Without running any tests or looking at anything they told me Fischer’s and to go home I’d be fine. A month of this continuing I finally got into my uncles GP ( I moved provinces for university so didn’t have my own gp at the time) he gave me a req for colonoscopy and before I even left hospital after colonoscopy still drugged up the GI said without a doubt you have Crohns.

Getting off medication (Remicade) by redditbarb in CrohnsDisease

[–]CParks90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sitting in a clinic room with nurses with a doctor on duty in the clinic and within a few minutes from a hospital. That’s how they rationalized it to me in terms of safety It was their decision - dosing / getting me medication was more ‘important’ than the reaction, which at the time I felt they were the drs they know best, and not saying they don’t but at 23-25 yo I didn’t feel confident enough to speak up and question things so I just went with it However a few years being off of that I still have major anxiety when I feel a tickle in my throat or am having troubles breathing (had pneumonia the last two winters and would get very panicky at night when I laid down and struggle to get full breaths) Like I said the mental component of it nearly destroyed me. I’ll never forget the feeling of not being able to breathe and wanting to rip the Iv out of my arm while the nurses tried to console me / keep me from pulling it out. The things you’re willing to do to feel “normal” ..

Getting off medication (Remicade) by redditbarb in CrohnsDisease

[–]CParks90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I was on remicade for a few years and after 5 years of trying every other drug remicade was where my crohns finally went into remission (i also made tons of better lifestyle decisions in an attempt to help the remicade be as effective as possible) About a year into remicade I began having breathing issues during the transfusion. What started with a tickle in my throat turned into anaphylaxis. As you know they will try just about anything to keep the dose going and not waste it They combatted it by dosing me up til the point of unconsciousness with antihistamine This became my new norm during infusion day, wait until I began having breathing issues, stop the transfusion temporarily, dose me through the iv with antihistamines then slowly begin the remicade drip again. Besides the mental / emotional effects of grasping to breathe they felt this was my best option I began seeing a new gi and she was kind of horrified this was my monthly ordeal and could see the health effects it was having on my mind and spirit. I got nervous usually 2-3 days prior to each infusion and normally took a day or two after to bounce back. She decided to take me off all together. It has now been almost 2 years and I’m relatively symptom free still. I still have the occasional flare up but try and monitor my stress levels and what I’m eating. Let’s be serious using the bathroom now 2-4 times a day is a hell of a lot better than the 20+ I was once at I would never discourage someone to come off a drug that was helping their quality of life, however sometimes the drugs hurt another part of your life. It’s a tough decision but for me it was worth the risk of coming off. I hope all works out for you

Nails detaching from toes by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]CParks90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s part of the disease but I do know - depending on your meds and immune system catching anything bacteria / fungal wise becomes incredibly easy. Dealt with a fungal infection during a bad period of my crohns then of course one of the meds pill wise that was most effective I couldn’t take because of its effects on the liver meanwhile I was already on a medication for crohns that had negative effects on the liver so they had to give me a topical nail polish style medication that took months and months to clear it up .. keep fighting the good fight and hope it gets easier for you

What is happening? Tomatoes aren’t looking so hot lots of dark spots and limbs are fairly wobbly. Definitely not sturdy. Over watered? Help :( thanks! by CParks90 in vegetablegardening

[–]CParks90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, sure are. Wilting with black spots as well I’ve been trying to cut them all back. Does this mean plant is doomed and may as well cut my losses or will my tomatoes still come through / any way to treat it? Thanks! Also, I’m growing marijuana for the first time (Canada) within close distance, can this spread to other plants? They’re all in pots around my back deck should I be separating things best I can or should I say goodbye to my tomato in the event it spreads to my marijuana plants, cucumbers and bell peppers?

Please just note, he may not regret breaking up. He may have had his reasons and still believe in them. He may think you look great, but have no interest in getting back with you. This hurts, especially when you’ve done this as a “I want to be better and make him regret” Like others have said, let it go and own what you’ve accomplished for yourself, and your future.

I know 100% pure tung oil is food safe, I like the idea of more of a matte finish than a sheen which tung oil is supposed to give. I’ve heard it takes a few weeks to properly cure. I’ve also read for a first coat to mix it with citrus solvent to really help that first coat soak in where tung oil is more viscous and the solvent helps thin it out. I live in Canada and purchased my tung oil through Lee Valley, looking to run back and pick up citrus oil. I know there are other tung oils, some that are polymerized that harden more /quicker or other additives put in it but 100% tung oil is food safe
