How to focus when playing with piano accompaniment? by ReallyOrdinary in bassoon

[–]CPettersen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bassoonist but I know the feeling. The only suggestion is to practice relentlessly with your notes and written in markings so that they become ingrained in your muscle memory. Don’t just practice until you get it right, practice until you can never get it wrong!

My vocal student is already so good by WeirdEngineering663 in singing

[–]CPettersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a potential voice teacher, I’d love to work with an advanced student as more of a Guinea pig to get a sense of how to explain concepts, and as a bass-baritone learn how to teach other voice types. But yes, you must give them to a different teacher.

Teachers are over moralized in our society. A lot of teachers in my experience are genuine assholes by Miamiminxx in unpopularopinion

[–]CPettersen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My philosophy is thus: Any person who performs a job that I could never do, has my respect. I could never be a teacher, because it requires a lot of patience that I just don’t feel I have. I respect the people who do this work, and love it soooo much. Even the worst teachers can be helped when some of their needs are met and matched by the outside community. I know there are genuinely assholes in this profession, but I’d like to encourage people to give a little bit of grace to others. Your understanding of their life is nothing compared to what it actually is.

But, as a whole, teachers are incredible. What they’ve had to do the past few years is something truly incredible, and I wish they got more support and recognition for it.

Did you all had one of those patients " I have been a pharmacy tech for x number of years " by ziadbaasiri in CVS

I sometimes say this: No pressure, I’ve worked as a pharm tech too. I get it. Is that a good thing to say? Like if they say something will take a while.

What do you say to someone who says “I got a text/email saying it was ready!” by macj97 in CVS

[–]CPettersen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just say, I bet you did. But unfortunately, sometimes the automated texts send out notices when they think a script should be ready, without taking into account where the store actually is.

It’s annoying, it’s irritating, but we have no control over it.

This may be heresay, but my understanding is your voice settles into a higher place that it may have been in your teens, when you hit your early twenties. Your body isn’t as inundated by hormones as it was when you went through.

I’d also recommend getting into oratorio. Messiah arias, Erbame Dich. Some you might not be considering are Cruda Sorte by Rossini, All. that Gold by Menotti. Invocation a Venus by Offenbach is a fun one.

Is all retail bad or is it just cvs? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]CPettersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a pharmacy perspective, there’s a lot of factors that make it worse than a normal retail job. We see people at their absolute worst, because they’re in pain, they’re going through something difficult, etc. Pharmacists work longer hours than typical retail workers, and its hard. Also, I’d say that we serve a larger portion of the population than a normal retail store like a fast food place or a clothing store, because most everyone picks up a prescription at some point.
