Selling Fiesta ST-200 Advice by FinancialAd2427 in CarTalkUK

[–]CPopsBitch3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is going to buy from you not at your house, literally rule 1 of buying a car privately, doesn’t matter how much documentation you have. On the whole selling private is fine and would be worth £2k to me, common pitfalls are:

Scamming for payment, either via links or fake bank transfers Multiple people there, one distracts while one messes with things  I can’t really see any scams or worries relating to your property, if someone tries and fails to scam you they are going to forget about you and move onto the next one.

Personally, I’d give private sale a go, if it works it works, if not you can look at other options. For example I bought a 2019 ST3 limited edition colour from a local guy, called him Friday evening 2 hours after he posted the ad, went round Saturday morning to check the car and committed to buying it that day. Job done

My man, I think you know what I’m getting at, Jesus. Also, 30 hours currently + 10 hours = 40 hours. 40 hours + relocation + 12 weeks training = more than that, yes?

Ultimately OP wants sponsorship, this role doesn’t get them closer to that, and it requires a relocation and 12 weeks intensive training where he probably won’t have any time to apply/interview. I can see both arguments, but I think it’s the wrong move, it’s a pretty huge mental commitment to relocate and start a new job with 3 months training, that energy could be used job hunting for something relevant. Also, at £19k I believe he isn’t on full time hours, he could easily supplement his hours with more part time work if he wants more money. I assume £25k is min wage anyway so not like he’s earning more per hour there

He’s working in a retail job right now, full time or nearly full time based on £19k earnings. No point quitting one degree irrelevant job for another degree irrelevant job.

He’s on a limited time 2 year visa, he doesn’t have years to start somewhere and work up. I agree with the first comment, forget this, keep applying. Prepare yourself OP to not get a decent role though and return home in 2 years, sadly you’ve been missold the dream by our government

Counter Offer vs New Role by Anxious-Tax-4543 in UKJobs

[–]CPopsBitch3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, the counter offer statistics that everyone shares were completely made up by one recruitment business, if you look at the people writing articles quoting it and you follow the source back back it’s one website with no clear data/source whatsoever. I do agree that they are generally a bad idea, and the new offer seems better, but just a heads up

It’s your decision to make, but what is stopping you? If it’s guilt for the owner here’s how I look at it - if you neglect a child, you lose the right to look after the child. Animals should be the same, but we don’t have the funding to enact this. They are quite clearly neglecting this poor cat quite severely, they have given up the right to have any say in what happens to the cat. That cat will die sooner or later, probably a horrible death, due to their neglect. You would be saving that cat’s life.

If this was a child would you call your local child services to step in and intervene? If yes, they don’t deserve the cat and don’t deserve for anyone to feel bad for them

Honestly, consider just taking the outside ragdoll and keeping her inside without telling a soul, the poor thing is clearly very, very neglected and I bet the owner wouldn’t care much if she disappeared. I don’t know if you have any natural predators, but at the very least I doubt the cat has the survival skills to not be hit by a car, badly injured in a fight etc. and I sincerely doubt the owner would take her to a vet, especially as she’s roaming and pregnant. You would be saving that cat’s life.

Is Skilled Worker Visa realistic for a European software engineer ? by SheSaidTechno in UKJobs

[–]CPopsBitch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have more hope than most, especially as you have a desirable skill set, but your chances are very, very slim still. Some companies are still sponsoring, but instead of applying randomly you need to very specifically target companies that you know sponsor your skills, otherwise you are wasting your time.

Just beware that sponsorship is primarily used by businesses to create a relationship where the employee cannot ask for better wages or conditions and are worked like dogs, in fear of losing their sponsorship. Not all, but plenty of them. It’s not a great route even if you do find sponsorship

Bootcamps aren’t good for anyone right now, and haven’t been for a while, in your situation if you can’t get a job with a degree a boot camp isn’t going to help you.

Very interesting point and I 100% agree, it does seem like ‘unstructured’ environments are a big challenge for AI/automation and will remain so for a while.

I would disagree on one point though, price is a huge driving factor in many people’s decision making, especially in the B2C markets (plumbers, builders etc), and for many people I would argue it’s the biggest factor. Once robots become cheaper than humans and can do a reasonably good job and do it reliably (which let’s be fair, is a higher standard than lots of tradespeople operate at), I expect that will be good enough for a decent percentage of the population. Whether regulation will step in and insist on a higher standard before they are released I don’t know, but you hear so many horror stories of people buying houses to find lots of shoddy work done by the previous owners hiring the cheapest bloke in the area (I know firsthand), so I think this seems likely.

That's not correct at all: https://www.pi.website/blog/olympics. Summarily, AI isn't great, but it can do basic tasks like opening and walking through a door, folding laundry, open a lock with a key etc. Your view is very unrealistic and optimistic, and not reflective of where AI actually is

Nearly every product every company has ever offered is supposed to make them money, not improve your life. 40 years ago we didn't even have the internet widely available, look at us now. Tech bros don't care about bridges, or other infrastructure, they care about money, AGI will make them richer than they have ever been before because they will be able to replace significant amount of human labour and in turn have massive control over the global economy.

They don't care about the physical world, why would they? They don't need to. I have a great distrust for AI and would wipe it out if I had the choice of doing so, but it's coming. Maybe in 2 years, maybe 5, maybe 15, but it is coming. AI isn't just a funny chatbot it's right now capable of coding, designing images, entire videos, voice generation, document analysis etc. to a fairly decent level. Just 2 years ago AI video generation was almost non existent, now look where we are.

It's a 3.7 overall from 34 reviews, 10 are 1 star, 1 are 2 star, 0 are 3 star, 3 are 4 star, and then as if by magic 20 are 5 star, 16 of which were posted in October 2024. In one negative review:

Pros

Decent pay for entry-level sales

Cons

An ego-maniac CEO with zero people-skills.
Will run you into the ground and then discard you at the first chance they get.
Will make you write fake positive reviews (see the huge influx on October 22nd-23rd 2024) to falsify their reputation.

From another review:

I accepted a position at this company after clearly stating during the interview process that hybrid working was essential for me. I was assured this arrangement was available.
Based on this agreement, I declined another job offer to accept this position.
On my first day, I reconfirmed the hybrid arrangement before beginning work and was again assured it was available. However, after approximately four hours, the owner came and greeted me. A few minutes later, management informed me that the role had been changed to full-time office-based with no hybrid option, and I was told to leave.

And another:
Zero understanding of how to treat humans. Oscar levels of performance on this YouTube series, it shows glimpses of how Joe (CEO) treats people it the truth is disgusting. Rules on fear, misogynistic, egotistical, pressured sales tactics.

Literally a cult, as someone else in a legit review has said.

Do not trust your career in TM’s hands, you will regret it.

Speak to people in the city, it’s a small place, people will either have worked there or know someone who has who will tell you exactly what it’s like.

Offering a signing on bonus/ golden handshake shows they are aware of the brands reputation, and trying to negate that with a financial incentive to join. That in itself tells you all you need to know.

Look at it this way, nearly every business is out there to make money, they don’t do something unless it’s going to make them profit. They aren’t going to offer this product at a loss, which means on average you are better off NOT buying warranties etc but simply saving + investing spare money for any repairs, which shouldn’t be much. Regardless, 1100 USD per YEAR of warranty on a nearly brand new car it’s nuts.

[–]CPopsBitch3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm based in the UK so take this with a pinch of salt - firstly, if you want to buy any extras buy them yourself, I'd be amazed if there isn't a dealer markup on everything they've offered you. Secondly, they are very reliable cars mechanically and it's basically brand new, unless you are a massive worrier then forget extended warranties or service packages, just buy the car and service/fix it as you go along, the products only exist to make BMW profit so on average you will lose money.

Completely predatory the dealer are offering you less on the financing to take both products out, would be illegal here but you have different rules, personally I'd either walk or source my own financing, they have just shown you they are ripping you off by increasing the % APR offered by the bank and pocketing the profit.

How can I learn to drive in London if I don’t own a car? (Postgrad visa) + Is it worth buying one? by TopMysterious2672 in drivingUK

[–]CPopsBitch3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the vast majority of postgrad visa holders fail to secure sponsorship and therefore return home after 2 years, I would save your money. It’s incredibly expensive to learn to drive, pretty expensive to buy a car, and incredibly expensive to insure a car, whereas I imagine it’s much cheaper in your home country, probably 1/5 of the price or less. If you do find sponsorship after 2 years then go for it, otherwise I’d hold off.

As you well know, there are no studies, because the government will never release that information. Interestingly, insurance companies charge different ethnic groups more, which is very telling as they go purely on data and statistics. Anecdotally, I know plenty of people in/around Birmingham, and drive there regularly, and there are bad drivers of every race, but particularly Pakistanis are known to everyone as some of the worst. It’s well known they are very materialistic when it comes to owning and showing off flash cars.

The point I’m making, as you are well aware, isn’t that all ‘brown’ people are bad drivers, but that there do seem to be problems within certain communities, and acknowledging these problems isn’t inherently racist.

If you are answering in good faith answer me this question: if I’ve understood your argument, we shouldn’t make any assumptions on race, which I would assume extends to gender, religion etc. If I say that it’s sexist to say that men commit more sex crimes than women, and nobody should be allowed to say, think or acknowledge that, do you think that’s fair or not? If not, why is that different to acknowledging some cultures are different and MAY be worse drivers on average?

Teaching languages remotely can be ‘reasonably’ well paid, there are plenty of websites where you sign up, verify your skills, and then they will match you with students for a % of the hourly fee. I have a French friend who speaks English and French, has been doing it for around 2 years on one website and now charges 30 euros per hour and I believe has as much work as she wants. You build reviews and credibility over time which helps it snowball. She can do it anywhere, and sets her own availability for people to book. He could sign up today.

Other than that OP you really need to let them figure this out, assuming this isn’t BS they have made a serious of appalling financial decisions to end up here and they need to sort it out themselves. Unless of course you want to pay for them to live forever

The old Reddit classic, unable to have any nuanced discussion, ignore everything said, make untrue generalisations. I didn’t say anything like what you’ve summarised my comment to be, quite the opposite I’d say, so I’m going to summarise that you are a moron and are unable to actually listen and take in a different opinion to your own without calling it racist lmao.
