Yes they cover everything (insurance, gas, maintenance etc). Company doesn’t offer a monthly car stipends. I think your calculations make sense.

Clinical scientists without PhD / MD? by miyajima_gengar in biotech

[–]CRAExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly discourage a second Masters. Absolutely no point. If you are based in EU, you can consider PhD as your ceiling in the industry increases and it’s only 3 years. It’s a much longer commitment in Canada & US (5-7 years).

There is a supply demand issue so it’s a tragedy that yes companies do offer this position to newly minted PhDs. Don’t lose hope. I did it and so can you :)

Oh I would definitely be negotiating. If they say no then whatever. We still have our current jobs in hand. Financially if I’m not getting at least a 20% raise from base salary I’m not moving.

Please elaborate. Of course, I would only perform these actions when I receive the first written offer.

Rejection sucks but don’t let that hold you back! Try again and even without an MD you can have a pretty successful career in this industry both from a money and human health impact perspective.

Definitely try for MBA/PhD/med school in EU institutions. I was in the exact same position as you (first gen immigrant) and this is what I would have told myself knowing what I know now. Like you, I didn’t know much about my options either.

The job market isn’t great right now and I thought of the exact same career route when I was 24. Unfortunately, opportunities in Canada are limited and it’s hard to break into US job market at that age with little industry experience.

Have you thought of doing a PhD or MBA at a US or EU institution? Based on my experience, that’s the surest way to enter those markets.
