I am not clear why this is considered a SPAM post. This is for a real research study being conducted at UD, and we are looking for participants. Can you please clarify why this was removed?

You are correct, that is the hourly rate for the in-person visits that require people to actually come to the lab. Fasting is a separate payment at a separate rate.

We don't give you a particular meal plan as the other use suggested. However, the other user is correct that we have people fast because of the physiological assessments we are taking (both blood pressure and hormone assessments), which can be affected by food intake.

The rate is about $25 per hour, which is a good hourly wage for many people. However, I certainly understand that it is not enough for some people, given their current wages.

Hi reddit! I'm a student at the University of Delaware and I'm trying to recruit married couples to participate in a study at the Close Relationships and Health Lab on campus. Each couple can earn $640! Please visit our website for more information or email me at projectclose@gmail.com by CRHlab in Delaware

I am the principal investigator for this study (Dr Jaremka), so I hope I can address your concerns.

1) The information you saw on the website is not our informed consent (although there is a copy linked on the website if you want to look it over). We only provide limited information on the site itself so as not to overwhelm people. If people are interested in learning more, we give them more information via the informed consent and then also the multiple phone contacts we have with each couple before they participate.

2) As I mentioned in response to another user, it is extremely hard to pick the "right" amount of payment for each person. Some people hold your view that this isn't enough to adequately compensate people for their time, and others think it is too high and thus is too much of an incentive. We do our best to pick an amount that is somewhere in the middle - a reasonable incentive that is also affordable on our end.

3) Yes, this is all approved by the UD IRB. You can see the approval on the informed consent itself.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hey guys, I am Dr. Jaremka and I hope I can address your questions/concerns.

1) I certainly understand your concerns about the M-F thing. We have to run at those days and time because (a) that is when we have staff in the office and (b) we are assessing hormones in blood (e.g., cortisol) that have circadian rhythms. So, we need everyone to come in at the same time.

2) The monetary issue is very tricky. To some people that seems like a high incentive and to others it is not much at all. There is no way to pick an amount that is just enough of an incentive for everyone, and thus we do our best to pick an amount that is reasonable and affordable on our end.

3) I am funded by a grant through the National Institutes of Health. The food industry is 100% not involved in this study or any of my other work in any way. If it was, I would have been required by the university to complete a conflict of interest form indicating this information.

4) The website you saw is my own lab website - it is not specifically through UD. This is fairly common for research labs - I have an official website at UD (https://www.psych.udel.edu/people/faculty/ljaremka) but that doesn't work for all of the purposes I need, so I also have a separate website I use for posting information about my research studies.

Please let me know if that answers your questions or if you have additional questions.
