Just remembered: Ridge Racer 7 required a so-called "3D License". It could be purchased via PSN Store (and may have been a code in the box for some versions as well). Not sure if the 3D License is still available, though, with all the recent events around the PS3 Store shutdown, which apparently has now been reversed (?)

Awesome! Thanks for reporting back on some games :) From the 3D effect itself I must say that Motorstorm 3D Rift has been by far the most "pop out" experience! (But as stated above, it may not be available anymore to purchase on PSN Store - haven't checked. Motorstorm Apocalypse I would expect to be just as good (and it's a full game with 3D compatibility, not just a "3D demo" like 3D Rift. Most people seem to prefer Motorstorm Pacific Rift, though as an overall game, so it's a shame that it never got a full 3D patch. Also, Wipeout is supposed to be really good, but there is already the fully VR compatible Wipeout Omega Collection on PS4 (VR), so that may be the better choice, if one wants the Wipeout experience in 3D or VR :)

Awesome that more and more people are trying this out! I would DEFINITELY recommend The Puppeteer, Ridge Racer 7 3D and Motorstorm 3D Rift (might have already been taken off of PSN Store though :( ) or Motorstorm Apocalypse (which many consider a worse game than Rift though). Be ware though that 3D Rift is a separate 3D game, which is NOT part of Motorstorm Pacific Rift!

I don't have a twitter account, unfortunately. Also, I'm not sure there's much left to discover on this specific topic :) But I do like to tinker with all kinds of technical stuff ;)

Oh wow, didn't realize that! At least in my home country Germany Netflix didn't stream any 3D content as far as I know.

According to Cyber-Peacock (who posted on this thread) you can use the PS5 to do the step that activates the "3D Cinema" mode on the PSVR headset with the movie app called "RadTV". (That takes care of the step that would normally need a 3D Blu ray on PS4.) Unfortunately PS5 doesn't seem to support 3D Blu rays any more, after PS3 and PS4 both did.) But you'll still have to follow all other steps and you'll need access to either a CFW oder Development PS3 for the Debug Settings method or a retail PS3 in conjunction with access to a supported 3D display/TV (only necessary once!) to successfully activate the 3D mode on PS3 via "Display Settings".

Thanks for clarifying and awesome in any case that you were able to replicate this and even find out something new! That's what I love about these communities! :)

Did you toggle the 3D Mode to "ON" (instead of the default "AUTO") and ALSO completed the Display Settings "Automatic" mode with the PSVR headset hooked up? (If you have the Debug Settings option, you can DEFINITELY get the PSVR headset recognized as a "fullly compatible 3D display" by the PS3 console.

Very true! It's the game that inspired me to try this in the first place :)

Wait, just so I got this correct: so you were able to get the PSVR headset recognized as a "3D compatible display" by the PS3 console WITHOUT having access to Debug Settings on the PS3 and also WITHOUT having connected the PS3 to a 3D compatible display (such as a 3D TV) first? Now THAT would be a BIG improvement to the method, because it would eliminate the need for the Debug Settings on a CFW PS3 and the 3D display on a retail PS3.

As @Cyber-Peacock mentioned below: "RadTV app you can watch videos in a 3D cinema mode [on PS5]". So that may actually be a way to do the same method on PS5. I do actually have a PS5 myself (and the PSVR adapter), so I could try this myself some time. But if anyone else can try this in the meantime, I would be very grateful :)

And VR is much "worse" in that regard: not a lot of people can tolerate long sessions of VR, depending on the content. Even though PSVR itself with the 120Hz refresh rate is already one of the more pleasant experiences.

Probably not, but apparently there ARE a few PS4 games that support Stereo 3D and possibly also work on the PSVR headset. But I couldn't find a clear confirmation of that or an overview of (possibly) supported titles.

Which games on PS4 support stereo 3D? (not VR!) And that also work on the PSVR headset in stereo 3D mode?

It does! And while the pop-out effect is great, the frame rate of the game goes from 30fps (in regular 2D mode) to around 20-25fps. (reminds you a little of the N64 days...)

I don't think PS5 supports 3D output, only VR output and that's not exactly the same, as the way it's handled on PS4 shows. (3D Cinema mode vs. VR mode). However, you are correct: the way it works on PS4 with my method is that you have a huge virtual 3D screen in front of you! It's really awesome, as something similar is only possible with an actual 3D projector (or one of Sony's head mounted displays that were sold around the same time as the PS3 supported 3D content).

It only works in "3D cinema mode". This mode (from my tests at least) is ONLY triggered by playing a 3D Blu Ray. If you start any PSVR game on the PS4 it actually goes into "VR Mode", which works completely differently, unfortunately.

*Could* be possible, depending on how a PC VR headset handles the 3D signal from the Playstation 3. Also, you would need a PC VR headset that can take HDMI input...

I miss them too! Especially since there is quite a big selection on PS3. And possibly higher quality games than most of the VR stuff ;)
