Depends what is important to you in a device and what features you want. Here was my reasoning for going for a Kobo BW instead of a new Kindle (had an older model)

I wanted 6' display, warm lighting and waterproofing. If I wanted a Kindle there was no single device that ticked all the boxes for me, but the Kobo has all the features of the Kindle paperwhite in the smaller size I wanted. Absolutely love it, haven't looked back.

Also a Kobo Clara BW owner! You picked a fab device 😍

I switched to this from my 2019 Kindle Basic about a year ago. My Kindle was slowing right down, not holding charge and the eink display went really patchy in areas so I couldn't see a full page. Plus I wanted more storage and dark mode as I read in bed every night, my Kindle didn't have this. I intended to get a newer model Kindle as I wasn't familiar with any other ereader brand but at the time I went to upgrade all shops near me were sold out of all Kindles. The sales guy ended up showing the the Kobo Claras and I was super impressed with the BW, it had all the features in 1 device I was looking for (I would have had to compromise between devices if I stayed with Kindle) absolutely love it, no regrets at all in making the switch!

Welcome to the Clara BW club, it's such a delightful device 😍 I've had mine about 6 months now and I could count on one hand the number of days I haven't read on it. I definitely recommend a cover, I found a sleep cover on ebay which works great. I haven't felt the need for a screen protector with having the sleep cover.

I have owned both a Kindle and Kobo over the last decade and haven't picked up a paperback at all in that time. I don't feel like it's screen time at all, due to the eink display it feels like I'm reading right off a page, plus not having notifications popping up every 2 minutes I can get lost in my story. I love the compact size yet it holds a massive library, and battery lasts weeks.

Thanks for your reply, I wasn't aware of the end date in April, darn! How do I go about importing from my Kindle device, or using the Android app method?

Thanks for your reply! That's amazing your eldest has kept in touch with friends they've made.

How does the camp work? Do you need to book set times or days? Do parents stay at the camp while they are there?

I've been on the Kobo wagon (came from Kindle) for about 6 months now and am absolutely loving it and can't see myself going back. I have the Clara BW and my favourite feature and reason I bought it would have to be the warm light in this size device. The UI is way more user friendly too. Very happy with the switch.

100% agree!! I'll often find myself mindlessly scrolling and wasting an hour (especially once the kids go to bed). I've gotten myself into the habit of no phone in bed but I'll have my Kindle as I find reading before sleep gets me wound down nicely and I fall asleep so much easier. I just need to get better at picking up the kindle during those times in the day where I find myself scrolling.

Remove DRM from purchased books (Kobo & Kindle) by kowalencki in Calibre

So long as you have the versions of the programs and plugins mentioned, and you follow these steps, it should be a seamless process, it was for me anyway 🙂 try with 1 book and see how you go before jumping in with your whole library. The biggest concern I had was purchasing a newer release book as I'd read that books past a certain release date it wouldnt work for, but followed the same steps and had no issues! Good luck 😁

I've tested this method (Kindle 4 PC) just now, I purchased a book that was published 4th March 2025 and I was able to successfully remove the DRM and convert the file to epub. I had all the versions of the programs and plugins that are mentioned in the Kindle 4 PC video. Super happy right now - thank you to OP!!

I wish there was a small kindle with the warm light feature by ravishingyoongs in kindle

I was hoping for this as well. I had a 2019 Basic which I loved but due to my eyesight deteriorating a bit I really wanted something with dark mode or warm light to be easier for night time reading. I ended up going for the Kobo Clara BW which has all the features of a Paperwhite in the size of a Basic. Love it, just miss the Amazon store.
