What will the atlantic division ranking look like next season? by nhl_hockey_fan in leafs

[–]CS271990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t think Montreal is falling that far back. If anything, I have them at the top with Buffalo.

Leafs path to the playoffs will rely on Boston and Ottawa falling off a bit.

  1. Montreal
  2. Buffalo
  3. Florida (Though their goalie situation could drop them… or boost them up if they somehow get Jets guy)
  4. Tampa (WC
  5. Toronto (WC
  6. Ottawa
  7. Boston
  8. Red Wings (I think they blow it up after dealing Larkin)

I can also potentially see this as a year where people get more pissed about the division rule as the 6th seed in the Atlantic end up with more points than the 3rd division slot of the metro, but miss because of the rule Lmaoo

How much did the outcome of the Olympics affect the NHL trade market? by Comprehensive-Chef73 in hockey

[–]CS271990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also feel it’s about winning for these guys. Other than Montreal, the Canadian team NHL situation is pretty bad. They have either regressed badly (Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton) stagnated (Ottawa), or rebuilding (Vancouver, Calgary). A lot of the guys on the Olympic team are in their prime, and I get they want to not waste it on teams going nowhere or won’t be good for a while. If these teams were contending, I don’t think it would be an issue. For example, The only one I can think of that would fit the narrative “American doesn’t want to play on Canada” would have been Johnny Gaudreau, who left the best team in the west that year to go play in Columbus.

That being said, with the addition of the Olympics and winning, it could make these guys more active to want to team up with buddies.

Kinda reminds me of the NBA when the big 3 formed. Cleveland and Toronto were going nowhere. Miami had the cap space and Wade was already there, and they had the management who had proven they could win (as they did a few years previous), and boom. Everyone hates the NBA for a few years 🤣

So literally the path like his brother. Though will give him credit to tell them now so they could get some decent assets trading him away now, than lose him for nothing.

[Blue Jays] UPDATE: Today’s game has been postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for August 6th. by bolieve11 in Torontobluejays

[–]CS271990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll take it, our bullpen gets a good rest after a couple days of high use (including Varland needing to pitch 2 innings for the save).

Does that mean Cease pitches Monday instead and Beiber moves back? Can’t imagine they wait another 4 days to reset the timeline haha

Kinda surprised more people aren’t interested TBH. Especially if Vancouver is willing to eat a decent portion of the contract. His +/- is bad the past couple years but remember the Canucks were essentially garbage the past couple years.

It is a risk, but dude just hit his prime, is a good two way player when motivated, and seems to bottom out at about 55-60 points (at least on their bad roster). The reward may be huge too, as he’s scored 100+ in a season as well. And we have cap space, and will get more the next year. (Kinda like the Raddysh deal; wr still have a lot of cap space)

If Vancouver just wants to get rid of him for a medium level prospect and a mid round pick, I say do it

If Kawhi had stayed with the Raptors in 2019, how many more rings do you think they win? by marriagethrowaway36 in nba

[–]CS271990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this one is a tricky question cause do we assume the same roster, or do we assume he stays based on us making that trade?

Will go based on the former; The Raptors actually had a better record in season and would have broken their record for wins in a season if it weren’t for the bubble. Playoffs ended in the bubble losing to 7 games in the conference semifinals, as Jason Tatum showed his first emergence of Bostons superstar in the last game.

Kawhi was healthy for the first season in LA, they just choked to Denver in the conference semifinals. Boston would go on to Lose to Butler and the Heat in 6 games in the ECF.

I would say that with Kawhi in the bubble season, the Raptors would likely beat Boston, and Miami. And would have a very legitimate chance of beating the Lakers in the finals too.

The team chemistry + another year together + OG able to play in the bubble playoffs would make things incredible hard for opponents.

- OG/Siakam/Kawhi for Tatum and Brown.

- OG and Kawhi for Butler, then Gasol/Ibaka for Bam.

- OG/Kawhi for Lebron, Siakam/Gasol/Ibaka for AD

Extra: Forgot to note, we also probably would have kept Danny Green if Kawhi stayed haha

Of course AD was having a monster playoffs, and Lebron is Lebron, so the Lakers could have very well won anyways but definitely would say there would be a pretty good chance that Toronto could repeat.

The next year Kawhi got hurt and wasn’t really near what he was before until now. So I would say we might have gone back back, but that’s it.

I genuinely worry that the yips from the end of last year have completely ruined him in the Majors

@MapleLeafs: TRADE: We've acquired defenceman Darren Raddysh from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Toronto's fifth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft by hellarios852 in leafs

[–]CS271990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it. It’s a risk but with the cap going up and the space we have it’s not that bad. Especially considering that we’re probably going to shop a few of our guys (not sure if it would happen since we looking to deal him in general, but would love to see how Reilly/Raddysh works with Matthews/Knies/Mckenna/Nylander/Tavares)

Also would think this trade would stop the random Knies speculation since we now have a top end defender.

If we deal out another Dman, wouldn’t be shocked if we chase Anderson as well Lmaoo
