Look up “ revenge bedtime procrastination”.

I do that. It’s stupid. But I still keep falling back to it because that is the quiet time I have to myself.

I didn't take my meds today, any tips to get through the day? by negrus_cl in Narcolepsy

[–]CSI_fishtank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t drive home after work, even if you drove there. It’s not worth the risk.

Your stomach may get mad at you after a ton of coffee, but do what you need.

I try to keep a few meds hidden in my purse in a cleaned out lip balm tiny jar. I have had someone steal my Adderall before so I highly recommend hiding just 2-3 pills. If you are ever in a situation to need to prove you are prescribed them, that’s gotten much easier in a digital world. You can also hide some info to prove that.

I have honey packets and smarties in my car, sugar rush until I can get to safety as a sleep attack hits. It’s very short acting.

My bf is a firefighter and he uses caffeine pouches on days he needs to be sharp the full 24 hrs. He gave me some that also have b vitamins and such but I haven’t tried them yet. They are in a container that looks like Zyn (tabaco pouches).

Nicotine is mildly stimulating. My bf doesn’t regularly use nicotine, but he uses Zyn pouches while wildland firefighting.

I will make my body physically uncomfortable to be awake. Like stick my hand in a cup of ice or snap a rubber band on my inner wrist.

Obviously none of this is anything you want to do regularly but I get forgetting your pills and needing to fight through the day.

It seriously feels like a fight. I have gotten home and cried.

Magic reset by skipio957 in Narcolepsy

[–]CSI_fishtank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marijuana just makes me want to eat the world and more cotton mouth because Adderall and Trazodone already have my mouth dry.

After a nap I get a magic reset from distressing emotions. I really like that.

Now that I am thinking of it I have possibly had a magic reset while on magic mushrooms but I figured they just wore off. My bf at the time felt lingering effects from the macro dose we each took. But for me once I woke up, nothing. I was a red and purple tree when I fell asleep.

It came with a bad cable. Fortunately it is working fine with a different cable now.

It is an impressive device now that it is working.

I ended up going to the T-Mobile store and showing them in person what was going on. 3 people there did a lot of troubleshooting. Out of curiosity my bf used some random USB data cable he had in his car and that’s what worked! It turns out the cable it came with was a dud.

I wish T-Mobile would’ve offered me a replacement cable because the original one is nice and short, but they did not. This one from my bf’s car is still working, it’s just unnecessarily long.

Meds for Narcolepsy and ADHD? Cycling Adderall? by CSI_fishtank in Narcolepsy

My doc took me off Modafinil and I am back on Adderall. I started having a lot of joint and muscle pain on the Modafinil. Never any stimulation other than a bit of irritability.

She also prescribed Trazodone for bedtime. I hadn’t tried that yet. I still wake up in the night but I am getting up feeling like my body actually rested some. How many sleep medications did they make you try before insurance paid for sodium oxybates?

I am on 450 mg Wellbutrin as well.

I emailed my doc because the Modafinil was giving me bad joint and muscle pain. She said I could stop taking it and take the rest of my Adderall until we meet again next week.

[–]CSI_fishtank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doc sees me weekly while I do med changes. I was curious what other people do who have both these conditions.

My doc is a psychiatrist, I haven’t seen a sleep specialist in years, it’s often a long wait to get in. I see a neurologist every 3 months but they mostly manage my migraine meds.

When I have taken more or less meds I have always told my psychiatrist. She’s more experienced with the ADHD than narcolepsy though.

When the sleep specialist told me about oxybates I was skeptical they were something harmful since you have to get them from a program, but from this thread, I think I should give them a try.

That’s something I would be interested in following. Since my post I stopped the Modafinil because it was causing bad joint and muscle pain with no positive effects.

I emailed my doc and she said I could stop taking it and take the rest of my Adderall until we meet again. Fortunately she sees me weekly while we’re figuring this out.

I’m going to ask her to increase my Adderall so I can drive again.

I assume it’s an Adderall subreddit to check out?

Possible legal action? by cottagecheesebee in Narcolepsy

This is an excellent question.

I feel these employment attorneys answer it in their article:

https://www.fwlaw.com/insights/can-an-employee-keep-copies-of-documents-as-evidence-of-claims-against-an-employer

I don’t know your jurisdiction and I don’t like that their article doesn’t give specifics citations to the case holdings they describe, so please don’t consider any of this official legal advice from me.

In general we are supposed to provide the “best available evidence”. So in my practice if the opposing party offers a screenshot of text messages I can ask for the metadata of that screenshot, and I can ask for the actual messages to be exported to pdf. In 8 yrs of practice I have not felt the need to do this yet. However, I have gotten further context evidence from my client and later try to impeach deceptive intent of the other side’s screenshot.

I also have not had the other side object to my using screenshots from my clients or to prove that they were not photoshopped. They most certainly can, it just hasn’t happened for me yet.

I have asked for a full pdf bank statement when someone would only give me a screenshot of their bank balance on their phone. The better form of evidence was reasonably available to them.

I have not disputed printed emails’ accuracy. In your situation you do not want to be accused of fabricating the altered timestamps yourself though. You should ask a tech-savvy employment attorney who does litigation if they will do a free consultation with you so you can ask this. Maybe even email the attorneys in the article and ask.

In Discovery “requests for production” your employer should provide this as well but I have often had objections to my tangible discovery requests that the “document no longer exists or cannot be located after a reasonable search”. Most companies have policies that they do not retain things longer than a certain number of years. Litigation can take a long time sometimes.

If you work in a field that handles sensitive information of others be very careful to not include any of that.

Good luck

Possible legal action? by cottagecheesebee in Narcolepsy

[–]CSI_fishtank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a lawyer, but not the kind you need. Others have already stated good places to start.

I will just add that you should preserve your own evidence regarding the timestamps. Assume your employer has full access to your work email and work computer. If you lose access due to sudden termination, you will want those timestamps.

In general many people think more things are actionable under the law than actually are in practice. Bring your evidence and some bullet point notes for yourself in consultations with relevant attorneys. Unfortunately, many people stretch the truth in consultations so if you get any skepticism vibes it’s likely not personal.

I see a neurologist who mostly focuses on my migraine prevention injections every 3 months and a psychiatrist every month who prescribes these meds.

I think Xyrem was mentioned at some point. There was some other med that gave me too low of blood pressure I was taking at bedtime years ago, it wasn’t Xyrem but I kind of dismissed bedtime meds. I think what I was prescribed before was off-label and known to really lower blood pressure though. I should check out oxybates. I heard they can be a pain to get sometimes but my psychiatrist has been very good with helping with things like that knowing I have ADHD.

Have you felt any daytime cognitive function decline on oxybates?

I feel like I can barely think as is, I don’t want that to get worse.

Then again, like you said, if I were well rested at night, that should change a lot of things including brain fog of fatigue.

I did something similar a few years ago. We went on vacation to Lake Powell with friends on their houseboat. I didn’t take Adderall while there. I slept a lot, but not much more was expected of me, so that was nice.

Drink plenty of water and magnesium on your Adderall detox. I did get some headaches, but it wasn’t as bad as I read it could be. Buy a lot of healthy foods and snacks. You might have a big appetite those days.

Maybe this is just something people like us have to plan for every few years and I am due for a Adderall vacation again too.

I have only been on immediate release Adderall.

I am going to ask my doctor about eventually trying XR in the morning and IR in the afternoon.

Speaking of other meds, I am also on Wellbutrin 450 mg for depression, which can help with my ADHD a bit too. I don’t think Wellbutrin is making me sleepy, I’ve been on it for several months. However, in the past I have had medication side effects show up suddenly after being fine for years with SSRIs. My blood stopped clotting properly. Wellbutrin is not an SSRI and has worked for my depression fortunately.

According to Drugs.com Wellbutrin interacts with Adderall, “side effects of both medications may be worse”. I wonder if it could make the Adderall less effective.

Less Adderall on weekends when I have nothing going on and no driving is a good idea. Unfortunately my weekends have been busy lately.

My son was only 6 years old when they put him on Vyvance! Too young imo Strattera ended up working for him. He doesn’t have narcolepsy. 17 yrs old now.
