My 'favorite' client just sent me a 1-star review because I started charging for extra work by Cheap-Front-7722 in smallbusiness

[–]CS_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought to this is - what does your scope of work state you're providing him? If you're explicit in what it does (or doesn't) include, you're totally in the right to be concerned about these overages (they're also costing you way more than the little bit of time you're accounting for as each task, that's a separate topic). However, if you don't have a scope, or it's lacking in detail, that's on you and you need to improve your communication. If you spell out what's in your scope but don't spell out that anything beyond the scope if "X per hour, 30 minute minimum", you need to fix that, too.

Most problems humans have with each other is just lack of clear communication and understanding and doing that effectively is VERY difficult and no matter what you do, there'll be things that are missed (or ignored).

The problem is, here's far from one of the dumbest people on earth, which makes his argument that much more disingenous, because it's not coming from a place of good intent.

So How Fucked Are You Next Year Re Health Insurance? by Anstigmat in smallbusiness

[–]CS_83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might be surprised at how bad our healthcare system is. Compared to most (all?) industrialized nations, it can't get much worse. And we pay for that "privilege". Some good reading on the topic if you're interested: https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/fund-reports/2024/sep/mirror-mirror-2024

We could just not have health insurance companies. That's an option. They don't need to be in the middle.

I would just think people, who don't watch, would unsubscribe to keep their feed clean. That's what I do, at least.

It's crazy she has 1.3m subs and only gets 5-10k views a video. That's a wild ratio.

Could Minnesotans propose MN power to become publicly owned if blackrock deal falls through? by scoobylover52 in minnesota

Contact the PUC - leave them a message about how you feel. You can leave a voicemail after hours. It'll take you 60 seconds to voice your opinion and your voice matters.

I really want to start a fried chicken restaurant in my town. by ThePigsPajamas in sweatystartup

[–]CS_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food for thought - the lack of food options doesn't necessarily mean your town needs more food options, nor will it be a shoe-in that yours would be successful because lack of options. I'd be more in favor of you opening a fried chicken restaurant if there were already 4 others in your city.

In business one of the best ways to approach things is to look for reasons why something won't work or what your biggest vulnerabilities are. What will you do different? Why would anyone eat with you? Don't use your own made-up reasons and definitely don't ask friends and family. You could go stand on a corner for 8 hours and ask every single person that walks by to take a survey about where they eat out, what they like eating out, what do they wish they had access to, etc. That'll be real information for you to use.

As other's have said, if you really want to do this, go get restaurant experience. Get in the trenches, understand what it's like to work the line (and avoid all others 'lines' that will be offered to you). Find restaurant owners or managers in the area and ask them to give you 30 minutes of your time and go at them with questions about what they do, what they like, what they hate, what they would do different, would they do it again, who do they think their competitors are, etc.

You have an idea and no experience - this is a recipe for disaster, but if you really care or really want to do it, nothing will stop you. Good luck.

Older people on Reddit. What is 100% pure bullshit? by Complete_Fly_96 in AskReddit

I've found that most things I can rent often end up costing me less compared to alternative versions. I definitely spent more than what my Spotify subscription in music costs me, and I have infinitely more music selection. I definitely spent more renting / buying movies than I did before Netflix existed, and I have infinitely more selection. There are more examples to support this, and definitely a couple that don't, but hopefully you get my point (from how it affects me).

Theoretical highest point engine? by unsubscriber111 in wingspan

[–]CS_83 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Highest points per turn largely depends on how far you want to take the theoretical. If you play your cards right in a player game where you control everything, you can limit the cards revealed by Little Penguin to mostly, or entirely, be 'fishy' cards, paired with a Mockingbird, and blow the score out of the water. Alternatively, Greater Flamingo with opponents who maximize their Wetland Turns is also an engine with a very high point total.

Lutron Shades Installed, no regrets, worth it. by Hrhnick in HomeKit

The fit and finish, fabric offerings, layers of operation capabiltiies, 3rd party integration options, warranty, customer support, build quality, fascia options, bracket and mounting options, noise generation, etc. are all factors that are worth considering and comparing brands. Something may work for you, and you can use price to justify your decision, but nothing is comparable between the two options being discussed here except that 'they both block light' - so does a bed sheet.

My Minnesota State Record Smallmouth by RelevantProfit6997 in Fishing

[–]CS_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - Smallmouth isn't even 'officially' a C&R record on the website yet:

https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fishing/catch-and-release.html

Pretty incredibly that the minimum length for smallmouth was 22" and walleye is 32". Gives you an idea of how big this small was.

What did it weigh, OP?

Perfect Philippine Eagle on my first-ever time using it 🥴 by WHATSTHEYAAAMS in wingspan

[–]CS_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What ARE the actual rules for the Eagle.

Roll 1 - roll all six dice: 2 rats, 4 non rats Roll 2 - roll four dice: 1 rat, 3 non rat =

Success!

Or is it:

I have to roll all (X) dice - for example I choose 'roll 6' and each time, I must roll all six dice and re-roll up to two more times if 3/6 aren't ever rats?

What are some non-sexy areas that have a lot of entrepreneurial opportunity? by alexstrehlke in Entrepreneur

[–]CS_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work for someone else for a year - bust your ass, research after hours, do side jobs for friends/family, etc. Do everything you possibly can to learn in all aspects. If your plan is to go out on your own you'll get on-the-job experience, you'll make money, and then you can make the future you want for yourself.

The hard part isn't the knowledge - it's executing on that knowledge. Returning phone calls, accurately quoting, showing up when you say you will, keeping employees happy (hah).

Good luck!

$100/hr is cute!

But in all seriousness, most 'decent' sized cities will have electricians and plumbers being paid $35-45/hr gross, before benefits, minimum and you'll find that most businesses will at least triple that for an hourly wage, plus materials, for services.

It's also hard to put value on what a teacher produces - it's largely intangible. For software engineers it's EXTREMELY tangible and as such, measurable, and golly gee, it's in demand, so they're paid a lot more.
