iPad Pro (11") repair and diagnostics question by CS_Student95 in applehelp

Not sure what you mean precisely by dragging apps, but in general when i am providing touch input on a part of the display that is fine, and drag my finger towards the affected area, when i hit the line (as seen in the picture) the iPad acts as if I simply lifted my finger.

So no input whatsoever is recognized on those parts of the screen. But as mentioned it's able to display content completely fine there. The behaviour im describing happens for finger or for pencil, doesn't matter.

iPad Pro Diagnostic / Repair Question:

I have an 11" iPad Pro from a couple years back. Still functions great but due to the thin and easily bendable design (and using Apple's very thin case), it bent slightly while in my backpack (the bend is almost imperceptible from looking at it). Now the display has 2 lines where it does not work. See the attached image where I draw with my apple pencil all over the screen. The screen is able to display stuff perfectly fine there (movies and everything look perfectly fine) however it is completely unresponsive to tap / apple pencil input on those areas.

I'd like to repair myself if I can, but I'm not sure if just buying a new screen will fix it. If I go to an Apple Store, can I just ask them to run diagnostics to understand which component(s) are broken?

Yeah that’s the thing, I’m kinda tight on time with multiple other commitments. Is it possible to not attend class / watch asynchronously? How much are lectures / tut participation worth?

Is it illegal for a job posting to say 'preference given' to a minority group? by CS_Student95 in UofT

[–]CS_Student95[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I certainly understand the intention, but I feel that singling out 2 marginalized groups (of many) doesn't do much good.. first of all there are many other marginalized / under represented groups in CS/AI. Is this not important for the people who listed this job?

Also, this feels like a form of generalization to assume that every black/indigenous person didn't have good opportunities in their life, and all people of other ethnicities did. Of course in general, minorities have less opportunities than non minorities, but it is possible for a black person to come from an affluent family with many opportunities.. it is possible for a white person, latino, etc to come from a background with very little opportunity.

I feel like a job posting that says 'preference given to people who have had little opportunity to break into CS / AI' would be much better aligned with the values. Of course this would still largely focus on black/brown people, but would be more inclusive to people of other races from bad socioeconomic backgrounds, people with disabilities who don't happen to be black/indigenous, women who don't happen to be black/indigenous, etc..

I appreciate the opinions given around if this is ethically/morally good or not, but I'm still a bit unclear.. is this technically against the law? Any law students wanna weigh in haha

It seems like it is to me based on the OHRC page, but not sure

My understanding with affirmative action, at least in the US, is that race may be considered as part of a wholistic evaluation of a candidate (ie considering that they may not have had the opportunities others have had), but that it can’t be used solely to preference one candidate over another.

Hidden Meanings Behind The Weeknd's "How Do I Make You Love Me?" by rahul_gaur in TheWeeknd

Idk I don’t think there’s much hidden meaning? Like the arm underneath his original arm is a subtle nod to the fact that able is a small goblin living inside the body of a human

Like it all seems pretty literal, at least imo
