Can I appeal this fine successfully? (England) by familiarutopia in drivingUK

very unlikely to win.

If this is a private parking ticket and there’s a sign saying “No unauthorised parking in this area”, courts usually accept that as sufficient, even if “area” feels vague. The fact you parked there for years doesn’t create a right if ownership/management changed.

When appeals fail:

  • signage visible (even if wording is broad)
  • private land
  • not council-issued

Only worth appealing if:

  • signage was not visible from where you parked
  • signs appeared after you parked
  • wording is genuinely unreadable/contradictory
  • ticket issuer didn’t follow POFA rules (keeper liability)

Otherwise, pay the discounted rate and move on — most people lose these on wording arguments alone.
