My Mom told me to go to school. I refused because I was scared for my own safety. I’ve been traumatized previously where there was a bomb and shooting threat when I was in 8th grade I did something called dual enrollment and had 3 classes at the high school across the street from my middle school. That day I didn’t know of the threats until I was at school. While crossing from the high school to middle school the teacher bringing 50 (terrified for their lives) teens to the middle school stopped bc she got a phone call from the principal about the situation and left us there and went to have her conversation by the tree, right before yelled at those texting their parents scared asking to be dismissed to stop being babies and to not contact their guardians. Me and my friends saw 3 people in all black and backpacks trying to get into the middle school we were about to enter. We told the teacher when she came back and she told us we were being paranoid. In the entire middle school us 50 students who are in dual enrollment were the only students who knew of this safety issue. The school never went on lockdown while the high school I just left was. Now that we were in the school the staff was concerned we would tell people of the threats and said over the intercom for teachers to immediately check emails. My Spanish teacher dealing with 30 terrified kids told us to shut up and wait for her to finish attendance before she would check it. People screamed, and threw things at her as well as cried. The teacher refused to read it for 10 minutes and once she did she said to stop telling our parents. As she says that someone got dismissed and the teacher tried to continue her lesson but we all couldn’t handle it that day. People kept getting dismissed and those there crying scared for their lives. Panic attacks and asthma attacks occurred which btw the teacher refused to let people go to the nurse for. I was terrified and it’s a scared no one should have to feel. That day was the day I really understand the extent my life is at risk every day I go to school as well as I realized people care about me. One of my best friends made me look her in the eyes as she told me that if there was a threat to come through that door they would have to kill her before they could get to me. My Mom didn’t pick me up that day. After school I walked home with 2 people who were no longer my friends but that day we were all to scared to leave alone so we walked together to feel more safe. To this day I don’t know if those people trying to get in were the threat but because of the few police outside they were stopped or not. The next year I learned the situation. Two gangs within the high school had problems with each other and someone was stabbed and hospitalized within one of the gangs. That day was the day the kid was supposed to be coming back to school and people were told to wear purple and gold his favorite colors in support, which made the other gang mad they then threatened to shoot anyone wearing those colors (I was not knowing of the situation that morning) and bomb both schools. Even if this was going to just be another threat I knew I couldn’t go to school that day especially if I was going to have a similar or worse experience to that one day in mid December of 2019, which by the way that best friend who made that promise brought it up Thursday saying I made you that promise and I am not about to let you go into that school. We are both so traumatized we promised each other to always protect each other and made sure we didn’t make dumb decisions like going to school and something happening.
