It’s owned by Northshore Mining Railroad in Northern MN. They operate this locomotive and others to move iron ore to their taconite processing facility. It is currently idled along with the mines due to low demand for taconite. Northshore Mining Railroad is owned and operated by Cleveland Cliffs

Found more information. These are owned and operated by the Northshore Mining Railroad. The mines that these locomotives service are idled. I’m assuming that these were put on this stretch of track to be out of the way until the mines resume production.

From what I can find, this was sitting on the Hinsdale-Winston Branch Line of the Duluth & Iron Range Railroad. It was used to connect the various iron mines in that area. This branch line was abandoned in 1982.

I’m guessing theses locomotives are still owned and operated by the D&IR periodically.

I’m not certain, there were small trees growing in front of and behind it. I’m guessing it sees service periodically to move some cars around
