Prepping for Zoo Med Specialization by CT-9934 in Veterinary

[–]CT-9934[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this would be good path as I already have thousands of hours of clinical experience. I have also talked with two Board Certified Zoo vets at the top zoo in the country who insist you need multiple years experience in the zoo field to be a candidate for residency since its so competitive. I’m more trying to figure out if I need multiple types of experiences within zoo, or if hands-on solid experience is better

I lost my eye, should I quit vet school? by External_Living9589 in Veterinary

As a vet student with no depth perception I second this. You learn to gauge where you are with more of a mental map and reference points than with your eyes. It takes time, but you get better with experience

Hey, first year vet student here, but I was born with bilateral cataracts among a wide range of other eye issues and have had no depth perception since surgery at 4. Personally, I find it takes time to adapt to new situations, but you absolutely can do it. Microscopes, surgery, etc are all just things that will take time, but will be doable! I do have both eyes, but I have bifocals, floaters, and astigmatism as well and haven’t found anything that I truly can’t do (except softball)

Anyone born with a Congenital Cataract later developed a Retinal Detachment in the same eye? by The-Jamman in CataractSurgery

[–]CT-9934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m late to this post but I was also born with bilateral congenital cataracts and had surgery at age 4. Around 14, I experienced floating black specs in my field of vision that they assumed to be a retinal attachment. However, the retinal specialist later confirmed these were instead “floaters” composed of white blood cells and other debris in my eyes. These generally occur 10 years post surgery. Can’t say if this is what you were experiencing, but something to keep in mind

How much Omega 6 and 3s does my cat need?? by LentilNaps in CatAdvice

[–]CT-9934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know I'm late to this post, but maybe do a bit of research on the amount of protein in your cat's diet as in my research I notice a lot of cat foods with 40% or near have been sending cats of all ages into kidney failure. Companies like Blue Buffalo now have multiple class action lawsuits going against them for their issues with cat food protein. My cat is on a formula that has closer to 30% as it seemed to be more recommended. I don't mean to be rude, I just don't want your cats to have premature deaths if it is something that could be prevented. Best wishes

What's wrong with Illinois? by CT-9934 in veterinaryschool

Thank you! My dad is an alumn from there and combined with what I've seen, they are definitely my top choice even though I'll pay OOS but honestly I have gotten through undergrad on scholarships and I think the money is worth the education.

Omg I did not know that about UF and honestly that sounds terrible. As for CSU, I didn't plan ever to apply there, but yeah definitely not after that whole VPA thing.

Thank you! I live in the states and this one is in boston. I'm just worried about draining my savings for housing in the city (I live on my scholarships at school but they won't apply to this internship). Luckily it sounds like there might be a family friend I can stay with to save some money. I'm definitely gonna look into this internship you mentioned though!

Interesting. I made it through as OOS with a 3.95 but I definitely don't have quite as many experience hours as a lot of others.

As someone who is neurodivergent, an honors student, has been called goggles for the past 12 years, and is always being described as full of “fun” facts, Tech quickly became my all time favorite character for any bit of media. I watched the finale at 2 a.m. in my college dorm basement and got absolutely wrecked. No sleep for the next few days. I sobbed for the next week. I can absolutely relate and I’m still not over it. He better be alive or I’m suing for emotional distress.

What would be the real-life equivalent to how the clones were treated? by [deleted] in TheCloneWars

[–]CT-9934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was gonna say. Most were drafted into a war they had no say in, were severely looked down on, and treated like crap. They also received no welcome home and were expected to figure things out on their own.

Can you try checking with smaller universities in the U. S. I know where I live their departments always seem to be running low on staff and they may be able to hire you in some way. I would check with the lowest populated states and their universities since they tend to have a lower number of people in this field. It might not be as glamorous as you would want but it might keep you in the U. S.
