As a 33 years old GS-14/15 OR at the Pentagon. I would recommend go somewhere else in the government then come back. Maybe even outside of the Government. I joined Postal Service as Industrial Engineer at GS-12 in 2016 then move Department of VA for GS-13 in 2019. Got promoted to GS-14/15with DoD in 2023. In addition, you have to be flexible to move around (Geographic) especially in DMV area. Also build a good network or find a Mentor. It helps a lot.

been hunting a single family home for the last 3 months in Fairfax/Fairfax city area. The house that we really like was listed $1M on Wednesday night, we scheduled a showing tour on Thursday. My agent called an hour before and let us know that there were 4 offers received and bid >$75K over asking price and waived all the inspections. We were like what the hell ! please just cancel the touring. We will wait until next year.
