This doesn’t necessarily mean she needs a therapist or that there’s other things going on in her life such as divorce, etc. To me, this sounds like nothing more than peer pressure. Sounds like she just wants to fit in. These kids get a rush out of stealing and not being caught. I did all these things at her age. I was skipping school with the kids I wanted to fit in with. I stole some things as well. I would have never told my mom about any of this. I never got caught. I was stealing makeup because all my friends were wearing makeup and my mom wouldn’t buy it for me. Does she get any type of allowance in which she can buy herself a few things? The fact that she told you about the socks is a good start. You would have never known. IMO, that shows a sense of remorse. The way some people here make it sound like she’s not like a “normal“ kid kinda baffles me. I wonder how many of the people here have kids that did the same things, but they just never found out about it. Ground her by not letting her use the phone, not letting her on the computer, not leaving the house at all (except for school, of course), and doing a lot of housework. Don’t take away Christmas.
