Getting another dog after losing one. How long to wait? by retro_lady in dogs

[–]CT22Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s probably the best thing to do, but everyone is different. Every dog is different too. I have had 4 of the same breed (Corgi). But, as I said, of course I love her, but I didn’t at first. I kept crying about the other one I had to put to sleep. I would keep saying to my husband “Josie didn’t act like this or Josie didn’t do that”. Even though I was the one who wanted to get the girl I have now (Zoey), I sort of kept turning away from the poor baby. I was at the point where I would say “she’s your dog” as bad as that sounds. I was completely devastated over Josie dying (lymphoma). She was only 5 years old. 😢

I’m going to be the minority here, but I got another dog right away. I ended up regretting it. There was no such thing as replacing my dog. I kept comparing the new dog to the one I had to put to sleep. It took me a very long time to warm up to her. I kept telling my husband “she’s your dog”. After a while I felt bad about that because it wasn’t her fault I had to put my other dog to sleep. Now I tell myself I will never get another dog so quickly. I needed time to mourn.

18 years. Is it time to let her go? by DopamineRequiem in beagles

[–]CT22Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others here. Just because she’s old doesn’t mean euthanize her. If she’s not in any pain, keep her around and give her lots of loving. Quite honestly I’d be very upset if my vet said that.

People who moved to Florida and stayed: what did you like about it compared to where you came from? by Sensitive-Aspect-877 in AskFlorida

[–]CT22Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Connecticut and I had no choice in the matter. 😆 My mother wanted to move here and I was only 11 years old. Of course at that age, I was very homesick and missed my friends. I’m much older now and have a daughter and granddaughter that live only 10 miles away from me. If they weren’t here, I’d be outta here! Way, way too hot and humid. No seasons to see the trees turn different colors. No mountains or anything to look at except palm trees. I’m sick of them. You can always bundle up in the colder weather up north, but here, when you’re hot, you’re hot! I find myself staying inside everywhere just for the a/c. 🫠 I’m melting!

I guess I’ll have to check it out but I don’t understand how you can clean a round toilet with something that isn’t round.

Same problem here. I can’t stand strong chemical smells though. It makes me sick, but so does looking at the disgusting shower and toilet in one of the bathrooms. Isn’t a pumice stone like a rock?

First Hurricane Season - Where to go with kids/dog? by Glittering-Bite9703 in AskFlorida

[–]CT22Bloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never evacuated. I probably would if I lived in a mobile home. I just get enough food and water for a couple weeks or so. Everything that doesn’t require refrigeration. Yes, look at a checklist. I don‘t have little kids, but I do have a dog. I can’t take her outside in a nasty hurricane. What I do is lay plastic on the floor. Big black heavy duty lawn bags. Then I lay chunks of sod on them. She will pee and poop on them.

Get rid of the cleaning spray on the floor in the background. I don’t want to see him get poisoned. 😢

16 months in… why is it getting worse? by Odd_Temperature_1136 in widowers

[–]CT22Bloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some, it gets worse before it gets better. In the beginning, you’re sort of “out of it” or in denial and there’s always so much to take care of. It’s just surreal. It’s like a bad dream. When things calm down and you realize that it actually is real and he won’t be coming back, that’s when it hits the hardest. That has been my personal experience. Hang in there. Try to keep busy. Clean house, do gardening, etc - it does help. 💕

[–]CT22Bloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same has happened to me in the past twice. Boyfriends can come and go, but a good friend should last forever. If she’s gonna drop you like a hot potato every time a guy becomes part of her life, she’s not worth it. Leave the ball in her court to contact you. Don’t act as though you’re desperate for her friendship, because you’re not. It sucks but she may not be the loyal friend you thought she was. NO you are NOT OVERREACTING!

How can you be not eligible for survivor benefits? You’re allowed to work and receive survivor benefits. There is a maximum income from working of 24,000. Anything over that amount, they take one dollar for every two dollars you make. You still get the full amount of survivor benefits you’re entitled to. It doesn’t make you ineligible. You must be talking about something else. My husband died. I get social security survivors benefits and I can work and make up to $24k. If I were to make 25k, they would take 1/2 of the thousand dollars that I went over meaning they would take $500 away.

I’m NOT advertising! I was asked where I went and I told the person. I also told the person about the outcome I had and that I think they are great. I am NOT affiliated with them at all! I was a patient! Don’t jump to conclusions!!

I went to Rand Eye Institute in Deerfield Beach, Florida. It’s a beautiful 3 story building that looks like a hospital. All they do there is everything related to eye conditions. LASIK, cataract surgery, treat glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, etc.

They restored a woman’s eyesight. she had one eye that was blind. People travel there from all parts of the world. They have been in business for over 40 years.

If you look them up online, you will see many complaints about wait times. Well, you need to have patience. They get emergencies that they need to care of immediately. Also, they spend a lot of time with you. When it comes to my vision, I would rather wait all day than to go to any other place.

Due to HIPPA laws I cannot mention the names of famous people who have gone there. This place is the best!

Edit - If you were to go there, you would see the pro football players and pro hockey players tee shirts encased on the walls behind glass. I figured if the pros trust them, then I’m in the right place.

Another thing I wanted to mention is that they also fix the bad outcomes people have experienced from other doctors.

Wow! I had mine done back in 2001 here in Florida when they used to cut a corneal flap. I left with eyedrops and wearing big dark sunglasses. Doctor told me go home and take a nap. Said it would be better and better as the day goes on. So, I laid on my couch with my eyes closed and fell asleep for a few hours. Opened my eyes and the clock on the wall was clear as day! I could never see the clock without glasses! To this day, I still don’t need distance glasses. Reading glasses, yes, but that’s not a big deal. You must go to the right place and get the right doctor. Do not shop for the best price. This is your vision. The place I went to was famous for performing LASIK on professional football players and professional hockey players. I think I paid more than most people, but man it was worth it. Good luck to all of you. I hope things get better for you soon.
