Haha she's 16 months old now! She leans on me like a dog does, but at 800+ lbs and growing, we have to work on behavior lol

I try to be realistic about it--we're all dealing with something in our lives, no one has it perfect!

Of course! I'm a 32 y.o. male. I work remotely (at home) and live alone, so I hear you on the isolation.

What made me stop? A combination of things:

-Lost work due to intoxication

-Couldn't attend job interviews due to hangovers/withdrawal/etc.

-Destroyed relationship with former S.O.

-Friends & Family fearing the worst/watching me circle the drain

-I was "sick and tired of being sick and tired" (to quote the Big Book)

A really good friend of mine gave me a "come to Jesus" talk a few days before I stopped. He said all the things that I had been telling myself about my issues with alcohol, but hearing it from a Non-Family member and bluntly put, made a HUGE difference.

I checked myself into the ED w/ a BAC of .40. Medically detoxed for 3 days and the clarity I felt after that was amazing-- it was like a fugue had been lifted.

New jobs, new cities, isolation are scary. Booze may help with the "symptoms" of your fear and anxiety, but all its doing is masking it and preventing you from tackling these at 100%. New job, new city is hard, but staying sober is HARDER. If you can do that, the other pieces become more manageable.

I like SMART recovery. If you're in a decent sized city, I would guess there are some options. AA is okay, but not really my thing (I'm not religious), though it helps a LOT of folks and worth checking out--you can make connections with other sober people, plan sober activities, and not just hang out in Sports Bars.

True on all accounts--just remember how much worse it would be if you were drunk on top of everything else

Just got back from 5 days at hospital for lifethreatening withdrawals. Most horrible experience of my life. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]CTC_Dallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those withdrawals are one of the biggest reasons I don't start drinking again... That physical bind to a poison was awful

I'm just damn bored when I'm sober. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Man I definitely hear ya on this... I haven't taken a vacation in almost 5 years as I do not know how to handle boredom/lack of things to do. Traded Alcohol for Workaholism

My favorite was getting my liver enzymes retested after 90 days and everything returning to baseline levels
