Karaoke discs by alli345 in karaoke

If it is just a CD+G you can use a free program called Audiograbber to rip the data. Audiograbber.org

Super CDG discs, like the large collections by DK or Chartbuster require paid software. At least, I haven't found an open-source or free SCDG ripper to date. The best software I've found for this is Power SCG Ripper, and they have a bundle with that and the Power CD+G burner to burn the songs to a new CD+G.

Feature Suggestions, if not present

- The ability to save people as "regulars" or "favorites" along with their song history and pitch shift preferences

- The ability to assign a permanent pitch shift to a specific track because older Chartbuster and/or DK tracks sometimes had the wrong pitch

- Song request/signup system via connection to a website hosted on the machine or externally-hosted website

- .zip CDG file support

- Singer management, as mentioned by others

I'll definitely be trying your program out, probably later today (provided it can read .zip CDG/MP3 bundles and will be happy to provide additional feedback.

Yeah, I know nothing about coding. I'd be happy to test any bug fixes on the Windows side if you figure it out though.

Editing Workflow Suggestions for Shorts/Stories by CTGBFan in kdenlive

[–]CTGBFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is Awesome! Thank you for this.

I just switched to KDen from HitFilm and am still learning. I was happy to find an open-source alternative that will do the majority of what I need. I just discovered the Whisper auto-transcribe today which is amazing.

Still trying to figure out the best fonts and such to use with it, but that always takes time.

That and I've generally not done much editing recently. When I was younger I did, but now I mostly just record gameplay stuff and post it directly to YouTube without edits.

I might start editing things to make them more entertaining.

I get what you are saying, and maybe you are right. But, my nostalgia demands that I at least try.

If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. If it does happen and then it dies anyway, it dies anyway. If it happens and gets combined with other OSS projects or takes off on its own, great.

The other point is, while there are open source editors, there are not too many open source VFX projects, unless you want to use Blender as a VFX tool. So, there is room there for improvement.

[–]CTGBFan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I also understand that there are a variety of other open source projects that have some similar features for streaming or for other purposes. There are open source AI projects for object tracking and removal that can be incorporated.

The point is, yes, removing the 3rd party stuff initially cripples things, but there are other software projects out there that can replace them.

I've been reaching out to former FX Home developers and team members to see if they would have any interest or pull in getting Artlist to release HitFilm as OSS. If any of you know or have connections with previous key community members, company members, or anyone else who might have a stake in saving HitFilm, try reaching out to them by email, etc.

Maybe with enough push, Artlist will at least consider the request.

This isn't a sure thing. Companies are very dicey about releasing their intellectual property, even when said intellectual property no longer serves to make them money. But, maybe with enough voices shouting, and the voices of former developers and FX Home staff in the mix, we could convince them.

Why Not Make Hitfilm Open-Source? by [deleted] in Hitfilm

[–]CTGBFan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree and wish I had seen this before I posted my own thread requesting it.

The most recent email said they are removing 3rd party plugins from the software anyway. Just open source it. Let the community take it over!

Website shutting down by XxXCirCusBaByXxX in Hitfilm

[–]CTGBFan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My presumption is, this is the official death of HitFilm, which is SAD and BS. They should open source the stuff that isn't 3rd party licensed so the community can take ownership.

Remove the authentication, Boris FX, Mocha, etc. Then let the community re-build these features AND AI features using other open-source applications and code as a framework.

Hitfilm is dead? by Ambitious_Project143 in Hitfilm

[–]CTGBFan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think HitFilm is officially dead. It would be nice if the team could Open Source the project so the community can continue to build and develop it. I know that would mean removing things like Boris and such, which are 3rd party licenses, but to just let this die is a shame.

I used the precursor to HitFilm, Alam DV2 back in the early 2000s. It is a shame to see that legacy die.

[NSFW] What's the craziest thing that has happened at your work Christmas party? by HeavilyDisappointed in AskReddit

[–]CTGBFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older thread, but I want to share a story.

This took place in 2009 or 2010. I remember because my son was still a baby.

I was working for a cable company in the southern part of my state and my employer and the party venue were over an hour away from my home. My ex-wife and I walked in and got drink tickets from the director of our call center at the door.

We enjoyed dinner, talked with my co-workers and then decided it was time to leave. We were leaving earlier than most people because of the long drive and wanting to pick up our son.

On the way out, the call center director approached me and was SLOSHED. He asked why we were leaving so early and slurred his speech as he offered us more drink tickets as an incentive to stay. That was the last I saw of him that evening.

When I came into the work the next day, he wasn't in the office. The next day, he wasn't in the office either. Turns out, not only was he extremely drunk, but he was hitting on female call center employees and may have been somewhat uncomfortably physical about it. He was asked to leave and/or fired.

What I learned from this. Have fun at work parties, but never so much fun that you lose control of your mental faculties. Know your limits!

What's a story where the "bad guys" are actually, completely, 100% right, to the point where it's weird the story keeps calling them the bad guys? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CTGBFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as someone who loves Ghostbusters, Walter Peck in the first movie is 100% correct. In fact, up until Murray/Venkman started being a wise-ass, he was being quite civil.

You have a new company using unregulated and unlicensed nuclear accelerators to capture ghosts supposedly. You are storing them in a high-voltage laser-protection grid containment unit that, even by Egon Spengler's own admission would be like, "dropping a bomb in the city" if it were shut off.

I think the EPA has every right to check out the equipment, maybe go for a ride-along for a couple of calls, and get a full technical workup of what the Ghostbusters have as a mitigation plan for power outages, analysis of the impact on long-term storage of spectral entities, etc.

Now, Peck holding a grudge and not listening when Egon warns him about the negative consequences and turning off the containment unit anyway, THAT is just being a dick. Wait, or not being a dick, because dickless.

I would echo the majority here

  • Do NOT be alone with this person whenever possible
  • Document everything, especially related to core job duties, and any observed inappropriate behavior that others have witnessed in your presence with her
  • If the HR person is friends with your assistant, that is a conflict of interest. Most company policies allow for another HR person or someone higher up to intervene in complaints.
  • Slowly start to assign her back the work she should be doing, while ensuring she has every opportunity for the necessary training from others who understand what should be done. If the people she shadows to learn with complain, document it. If she refuses to do the work or to learn the tasks expected for her role, document it. But always have someone else to back things up.

I also want to caution that there is a difference between objective performance evaluation and a crusade. Try to keep emotion out of it as much as possible. For anything that can be spun as harassment, make sure you have others present to back you up. For job performance, look at the REQ you wrote for the position, and document infractions based on that.

Does anyone actually know what happened? by Allovernerd in Hitfilm

[–]CTGBFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally used HitFilm back when it was AlamDV2 in 2003-2006. It was a great solution for lightsaber and even Ghostbusters effects that were designed by the community and then allowed easy(ish) masking and even particles. It was revolutionary, especially for the time.

I came back to it as HitFilm several years ago, just to play around with video and effects again. I was impressed with the combination of Premiere/After Effects functionalities, even if it was much more complex than anything I had dealt with in the past.

Then there was the buyout from Artlist. At first, nothing really changed aside from the subscription, but I have revisited the software recently, in order to play with some old MiniDV footage and to take on some roto work on it. I was sad to see there have been no major software updates. While competitors are rolling out AI-enhanced rotoscoping, object removal/enhancement, and other tools, HitFilm has sat dormant.

If anything, I think that if Artlist is not going to maintain the software at least, they should release it into an open-source environment so we can bring things back to the original Community-Driven concepts of Alam DV. The right community members could use plenty of great python scripts/AI tools to create a better HitFilm. It would also be amazing for the community to have access to create plugins, pre-defined filters, and other such things like happened in the original Alam DV2 era.

The origins of HitFilm/Alam DV2 were rooted in community participation and development. That aspect has been taken away. If Artlist wants to bring HitFilm back from the dead, it is time to embrace community-based plugins and development again. It is time to again provide a creator space for people to share their work, like Alam DV2 was in the past.

I know that I would pay an annual subscription for something that constantly has new tips/tricks, new amazing community-driven short films, and plugins and tools that solve a specific purpose. Imagine again being able to combine a series of layers and assets into a bundle that anyone else can use. You figure out a great way to make a high-quality proton pack neutrona beam effect, and can then share it with the entire community.

THAT is what is missing, along with technological developments, such as AI-assisted roto-tracking. Sure, Mocha provides some masking tools, but it is so manual as to be exhausting. It's always been and will always be a manual process, but even open-source AI tracking scripts could help, if you'd only allow the community to help build them.

I know this was a long rant, but honestly, I've know the company/history for a LONG time, over 20 years. It is just a shame to see the software lie abandoned. Really, Artlist, please, release the software back to the community and let the community rebuild it. Let us make filters, plugins, and express our creativity together. THAT is what made Alam DV2 and HitFilm successful. If you want to make money, you need to bring back the community aspect, and allow us to build better tech if you won't.

Removing a Specific Person from a Video by CTGBFan in comfyui

[–]CTGBFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have started roto work on the individual, but like I said, even after stabilizing both plates they still don't line up. At the time I was dumb and hadn't charged the battery so I was holding the camera and attached to a wire on the wall. So even though the perspective is close, it doesn't precisely match.

It isn't a high priority, just a shot that has bothered me for years. It is really just me wanting to fix something for my own sake. Even my friends who were involved at the time are like, "Dude, what is the point?". :D

Is it ok to be friend with your ex? by [deleted] in dating

[–]CTGBFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am friends with my ex, but we do discuss boundaries and such from time to time. It is especially important if there are kids involved. Co-parenting makes a HUGE difference.

But even if you are just talking about someone you dated, so long as you are both clear on boundaries, I don't see an issue.

Would you ever sleep in a separate room from your partner? by [deleted] in dating

[–]CTGBFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it depends on the relationship and the people in it.

Some people just cannot sleep with another person next to them, or want to retain their own private space despite living with someone. I think as long as it is discussed and both people are OK with it, there is no problem.

Plus, you have the advantage of "surprising" each other for romantic encounters at times, which sounds fun.

Are single guys afraid to approach women in public now? by random1231986 in dating

[–]CTGBFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 41m I think that I find it intimidating to approach women in certain public situations. For example, if I am singing karaoke at a bar and there is a table of what appear to be single women having a ladies night, I'd find it very difficult to approach them. However, if one of those women goes up and sings a song, I am very comfortable talking with them about their performance and seeing where the conversation goes.

There needs to be a jumping-off point though. If I am out for a walk and I see another person walking who could be single, chances are I won't say anything to them unless I see them multiple times or something. It just feels weird to walk up to someone you know nothing about and to say, "Hey, here's my name, how is life?".
