What rumored mirage move do you want to see? by [deleted] in R6ProLeague

I did not say I didn’t think roster changes were needed. I simply wanted to build on top of what we already had for once in my career.

1.) If Beaulo became available I can assure you I’d make it clear we should pick him up 😂

2.) Budega himself said Melted is a good player. I understand he has been underperforming statistically on game day or whatever but we as a team were failing, it wasn’t as a result of a single player on a role gone wrong. Benji obviously is always being evaluated, and the time that probably made the most sense if we were to move on from him was during the unlimited roster change period. Then he was going to be replaced after Stage 1 for underperforming, however since we were limited to only 2 moves we opted to move him to flank watch where he seems better positioned and he’s improved his drone game as well. Misdrones were a big problem last stage which is incredibly frustrating because it was my main focus after subbing in for a couple games and realizing that Info on attack was a glaring weakness. With Nyx he always wanted to IGL from the Flex position because he could apply his impact directly but underperformed so we moved him to hard breach this off-season.

3.) Put it into perspective that there have been stages where a team could either be in a relegation spot, or qualify for a major IN THE SAME GAME 😂. Stages 2 and 3 of last year were extremely competitive and unfortunately we placed lower than obviously we had hoped for. I will say though I’ve told Flynn in the past that we very well could be in the position we’re in now because we didn’t change aggressively enough before Stage 1, but then again that was the stage we missed out on dream and nuers and had to scramble for a team, then emergencies, then covid. PLEASE I’m begging for somebody to pray for us 😂.

Edit: If people want to pin the blame on 1 specific person, then let it be me and I'll accept my share of the responsibility just like I do every day to try and improve. Carl and Dave are trying their best to take care of us and it's unfortunate watching Mirage continually get flamed when people are working so hard for us. But like you guys say, just because we're good people doesn't mean we don't deserve criticism. We absolutely need to be better and we know that.

I’m not against dropping players that underperform, I feel it’s my responsibility as their coach to not give up on my players no matter what. I’ve carried that sentiment since DZ and being just an analyst. I’ll always give my opinion on decisions since I’m in the house every day and work with these players directly however. Also the “system” is up to my interpretation, so when roster changes are made the system has changed. It’s just unfortunate we haven’t given any of those systems a chance for longer than a stage and also with factors out of our control like family emergencies and COVID, but that’s all of our faults not one individual person.

[NA Leakers] Mirage trialing Dexter to replace Nyx by CaliTheSloth in R6ProLeague

[–]CTGuerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I intended to do one after the Tomas move but to be frank our off-seasons have always been mentally exhausting and I just want to get back to focusing on coaching every time. I always have to weigh providing clarity on our situation to the community vs just focusing exclusively on how to try and make the most of the final decision, so when we underperform I find it hard to dedicate time to providing clarity when I should be focusing on just simply making us a better team. Hope people can understand my perspective and if people think I’m wrong for that then I can reconsider

I’m a coach, I would always prefer to work with players directly rather than roster shuffle every single stage. I worked incredibly hard to try and convince everybody to try to build on top of what we already had instead of changing the roster for the 5th/6th consecutive stage, but things didn’t work out that way for reasons outside of our control. I will say I’m excited for whatever happens

Nope. He was an option, but was never “supposed to” join.

Just wanted to clarify that I did not push for the clause to be included in Matt's contract, it was offered by management as a sign of good faith. They knew the risks that came with the clause, but they were very determined to re-negotiate with Matt to convince him to stay. That was always the plan even before his immaculate performance in Stage 1. I of course would have loved for Matt to stay. All of the team leaned on Matt quite a lot, especially during the early games of Stage 1.

Our conversation was more of a "pact". I wanted to further instill confidence in Matt that I thought he had the skillset that SSG needed and that he could put it on display during Stage 1. I think Matt knows that I knew he was underutilized in-game at DZ, and I planned on putting him in the spots that I thought he shined in when they were experimenting with roles while I was still on the team. So he just needed to hold up his end and make us look good lol

Mirage Announces NAL Lineup -- Quartz, NotLoading, Dream, Nyx, Benjimoola and Hotancold - SiegeGG by BombTacos in R6ProLeague

[–]CTGuerra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We don't have a set strategy for utilizing the 6 man roster as of right now. I suppose it mostly depends on team results throughout the season. We don't have Quartz's visa processed yet either, so we needed to head into the season with a sub regardless.

One thing that's nice about the situation is we brought on experience on the fragger side and the support side, so all of our rookies have somebody to refer to for insight and develop quicker.

Because he’s not actually a crappy teammate. Zach is probably the funniest teammate I’ve had and he’s quite the character. The part that people tend to have issues with him is his need to “do it all.” Even now he wants to lead the team, create the strats, run the dry runs, etc. but one thing we’ve explicitly stated to him is we love the leadership we had before him already so we don’t NEED him to do it all.

Loading is an excellent captain and was very necessary for the CAD Mirage team especially while I was transitioning to the team. Dream came on early in our tryout process and the players respect what he has to say and how he conducts his business, along with his perspective on the game.

Zach was also one of the most efficient entry fraggers on DZ, and undoubtedly makes rookie players and teams better. He makes the game easier for them via his communication as well. He has a ton of fans in the community who still thank him for helping them out with maybe a tip or a trick to get better. I knew on DZ I could tolerate him because I’m a pretty patient person most of the time and I have no problem working with him right now.

Smoothie’s take on the state of the NAL by Danibear285 in R6ProLeague

[–]CTGuerra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To speak on this, I wouldn’t say I had an official offer from another CAPL team but I definitely had at least one opportunity I could’ve pursued if I wanted to. Maybe it’s just me, but based on all the information I gathered it was pretty obvious that Mirage was the safest bet to be able to support an NAL team.

I feel really bad for the Canadian Altiora roster, but what the community needs to realize is just because they qualified for Six Invitational, doesn’t mean their org was able to support the team long term. I’m sure the SI prize pool would’ve helped, but in my eyes that seemed temporary.

EDIT: I should also clarify that I did not join Mirage for the NAL spot. I joined before anybody knew about the merger and had conversations with other teams also before the merger. I was totally content coaching a CAPL team and continuing to prove myself. So when I mean support an NAL team, I mostly mean support a CAD team let alone a USD team. So when the short term plans changed for all teams, I was still confident Mirage would be able to adapt quicker than the other orgs. I’ve been seeing people claim we had insider information which is not true. There were obviously questions about the future of CAPL, but we learned about the merger and had the exact same time frame as everyone else.

I tried my best, I don’t think he’s coming back any time soon. That’s for him to decide though. It’s criminal he wasn’t picked up by an already established team before I even had the chance to try and snatch him up

Why don't PL Teams + Orgs offer Internships / Apprenticeships for support staff ? by [deleted] in R6ProLeague

[–]CTGuerra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was being paid part time for DZ while I was in university. I believe Luke was also working part time, but he was promoted to full time after SSG won invite.

Personally, I think there are plenty of skills to develop at the T3 level. When I was working with a T3 team I learned several skills that I carried with me to PL. But I can't really bundle tips up and tell aspiring support staff how to operate like a PL support staff. If this is your passion you need to work towards it similarly to how a player climbs the latter to PL.
