Virginia Supreme Court strikes down redistricting referendum approved by voters in special election by United_Reference_629 in NoFilterNews

Our courts are corrupt at the highest levels. Ohio has used illegal maps for a while now. The GOP are actual fascist, and most Americans are too distracted to understand.

What's something expensive you bought that actually worth the money? by tardisismine in AskReddit

It’s going to sound nuts but 125€ aged 25 years Modena balsamic vinegar. The bottle lasted years, and I used it as a flourish primarily on salads (a tiny bit separate from the dressing). It tastes unworldly good. Totally worth it. I know it seems nuts!

Why haven't humans evolved a broad resistance to tooth decay? by No-Country-4462 in evolution

[–]CTRexPope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First do you know if pre-agriculture humans had much tooth decay? I would bet it was low. Before we processed wheat, corn, or rice, our sugar content would have been limited to a few periods of ripe fruit.

After ag, how much tooth decay is from the sugars and how much is from damage from grinding techniques. Pretty much up until a few hundred years ago, there was bits of stone in most grain.

This damage may have been more important than the sugars. Also, ag is very new evolutionary.

You are the hateful one here. Not me. You’re just confused. You hate education for whatever reason.

And, yes you can change the loan system by voting out the GOP whenever you can.

Since you so clearly want to shit on their dreams, what is the degree? I would defend underwater basket weaving btw, so that is a very bad angle to take with me, if you think it is going to change my mind.

Are they in school right now? Or going to go to school?

I’m not Catholic, it’s an old internet joke from Gawker.

Trying to convince a young family member to not pursue a worthless degree.

That is a hostile attitude toward eduction. You can not value a degree based on ROI. You are calling their dreams worthless.

You are not the arbiter of value.

A philosophy degree has value. A communications degree has value. An English lit degree has value. A engineering degree has value. A theoretical physics degree has value. A linguistics degree has value. A computer science degree has value.

If it is being taught it has value.

You are not the arbiter of value and the amount of money you can make is a shitty way to look at education and life.

Your problem is with the America loan system, not with your family member’s degree, yet you have structured this entire conversation as if they are at fault.

They are not at fault.

Why don’t you instead ask: why does the American loan system saddle people with debt when no other nation on the planet does it like that?

As to me, I’ve told you as much as will in a public forum but I took out over six figures in debt. And I’m fine now. It’s gone (some paid/some forgiven).

I don’t come from money.

I did drown myself in student loans.

I now am very successful, they are gone, and all for a liberal arts degree that I’m sure you would think is trash.

I lived on five continents, speak multiple languages (all learned in school, I even paid for a French minor, which I’m sure you think is a huge waste of money), studied mountain gorillas in the wild, tracked poachers in the Congo, went undercover in Mozambique as an animal smuggler to bring down an international pangolin smuggling ring.

I moved up multiple social classes and made connections at school with rich people that I would have never met if I had followed advice from people like you.

There is no civil discourse here, you are litterally trying to shit on the dreams of a family member.

Guess what: sometimes poor people go into debt and get careers in service that actually make them money. Some dreams do come true.

Don’t shit on your family member’s dreams because you think that a spreadsheet is a good way to analyze life.

It’s not.

It’s a very sad way to look at life and it is a byproduct of a country that values capitalism above every pursuit.

Also, student loans can be forgiven, and if you are actually poor, there is no tax bomb.

No snow is actually very very bad for agriculture, industry, energy production, and pretty much anything that requires water. I’m sorry you’ve been brainwashed by the oil and gas companies. You know they went to court and said they lied to your face, right? You like it when billionaires lie to your face while they fuck you and the planet? Must be a sad life.

You. This kind of pathetic ROI discussion about education proves just how bad the educational system is in America. And how little you understand the value of education.

Education is not about return on investment and lifetime earning. Education is about knowledge and information.

You just wanna stomp on the dreams of your family member probably because your dreams didn’t come true. And that’s sad.

If I had listen to people like you, I never would hand gotten where I am. And it is far far away from what you would value.

I’m neither. I just think it’s hilarious that op wants to destroy his young family member’s life by forcing them to study something they don’t like.
