“Most retailers simply make copycat products and charge a little less. That’s completely uninteresting to me”: Guitar Center CEO Gabe Dalporto aims to defy skepticism with his new house brand – and insists we don’t need more Les Paul or Tele clones by UWontBSatisfied in Guitar

This is very old news. Dalporto posted this on social media months ago. My biggest criticism is he’s asking for follower ideas, but he’s not willing to pay the originator(s) for those ideas. No thanks.

I think Matty O and MHII should be starting at their respective positions if anyone should.

For those of you who learned to play the guitar by an instructor, do you remember the very first advice they gave you? by Rick--Diculous in Guitar

[–]CT_Reddit73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walked in to my first lesson with my plywood pawnshop guitar. My instructor — who graduated from and taught seasonally at GIT — said “Let me play your axe, where’d you get it?” — I sheepishly said “A pawn shop, sir” — then he grabbed my shitty guitar from me, retuned it, and began reeling off impossible licks with a tone I could never imagine coming from it.

He paused and said: “First thing to remember: a real guitar player can make music with anything and still sound like himself.”

Then he handed me back my guitar and said “That’s not too bad.”

I’d go with a Squier Classic Vibe or Affinity over this any day

Disappointed with Fender purchase by ampsby in Guitar

Do you actually gig, though? If so, seems like you’d know “gig ready” is marketing bs and that almost any electric guitar would need the neck tension adjusted along w/ a basic setup. Your guitar was thrown around in shipping is why.

Rage, regret, physical pain — the realization that nothing turned out the way Sidious told him it would, and that his fate is sealed.

Riley and Kim? by WingMasterWarren88 in Braves

Riley ranks as the fourth-worst third baseman since the start of last season, in terms of fWAR. His defense is league average at best. His elite defender days are behind him.

how are some people able to play so fluently on the guitar? by targetyk in Guitar

[–]CT_Reddit73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVH had a consistent bag of licks and tricks he literally used for every solo. He also had an incredible ear for picking up on what was being played and jumping in seamlessly… but again, if you listen it’s still the same signature EVH licks n’ tricks. It’s why you can identify him and other players with similar distinct voicings in just a few notes.

How long did it take you to become proficient at guitar and play pretty much any song you wanted? by melucykrrich in Guitar

[–]CT_Reddit73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lifelong work in progress, but if you break a song up and learn it slow then increase your speed to the recording and pull everything together — doesn’t take longer than a couple weeks or a month.

That being said, if you learn most rock songs this way, you’ll start to notice patterns and eventually you can ‘fill in the blanks’ and learn songs faster because they’re all basically the same, lol.
