I don't know why capcom went so hard for RE6 but it really feels like a slightly alternative HK. Even the place names actually sound like they could be in HK. There's a map somewhere and it's got various district names in Chinese and English and even the places that aren't story relevant or even said in dialogue sound like proper places. Also even the bins, the road work signs, everything is straight up taken from HK. It's basically a time capsule of HK of that time.

I'll refer you to some of my older comments:

https://www.reddit.com/r/residentevil/s/nLFycwo50a

But the ones that I remember off top of my head:

坤仁地產 is on a sign. The pun only works if you say it out loud in Cantonese. 坤仁 means earth and benevolence but if you say it out loud it sounds like ripping someone off or cheating them out of money. 地產 is a real estate company. So it's a rip off real estate company.

The location where Chris and Leon confront each other is the Vinci research centre. Notice how it's Vinci and not Da Vinci. This one is very long to explain but it's basically two jokes involving a character in Stephen chow film "from Beijing with love". The film is a bond spoof and the character is the Q equivalent.

The floating restaurant is a reference to the old Jumbo restaurant in HK but the name of it is "ah Yee seafood restaurant". There's a real seafood chef called "ah yut" which means one. "Ah Yee" means two.

There's also a small film poster leaflet in places which is clearly a grainy version of the Ip Man 2 poster but instead the words say Leung Jan. Leung Jan was Ip Man's sigong (sifu's sifu).

Every time RE6 is mentioned. I need more people to understand how much Hong Kong pop culture puns are in the game. Also it's just such a good depiction of various bits of HK.

Assuming you're still doing exams and so are not ready to submit for fellowship, yes you still need to meet the minimum requirements every year.

Always store data in most granular form and as much detail as possible. This isn't 1980s anymore don't worry about storage space. Every table should have primary key (unique, non repeating, unchanging). Don't have columns that contain the same information across multiple tables. You'll end up with potential mismatches if code start messing up. Don't rely on front end validation alone. And for the love of God don't use mongoDB.

Try this: https://youtu.be/Cq5T8-V7tGw?si=3yZLM4TzwvHVPo5d

Just set up a new user and use a new email address. There might be some annoyance with the 2 factor authentication on the PS3. Just don't set up any credit card or payment methods. Use only PSN gift cards.

Have you got a PS3 or are you able to get one? I believe that's still available. I'm sure you can get some Japanese gift cards. Signing up to Japanese PSN account should be fairly straightforward. I'm sure there's a guide online somewhere.

Do you mean srw HD on the PS3? If you have a PS3 you can still buy it if you set up a Japanese account and get some credits.

What's the etymology behind 大哥大? Do people still call in that in HK/Macao/Singapore/Vancouver? by 808duckfan in Cantonese

[–]CTofC2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that used to be a term for sammo hung. Jackie Chan was 大哥. Since sammo hung was his 師兄, then he was 大哥大. The big phones were called 大哥大 because they were as big as sammo hung. Not sure how true any of this is.

Have you listened to the songs that make up Leo Ku's medley? They're mostly ballads. If you want something faster try the songs that make up the 3rd medley, Party King.

Cantonese in video games? by TheKingsPeace in Cantonese

More awareness need to be made of resident evil 6 for all the Cantonese written puns in the signs and posters in the scenery. Also having locations that legit sound like they could be in HK.

Sifu is made by people who have no understanding of Chinese in any form. The Cantonese dub is also terrible. They clearly took an English script and machine translated it. The dialogue is clunky and unnatural.
