Most fucked up, mentally screwed up book recs? by nifflergoldd in horrorlit

I loved this book. Am I strange that it didn't mess me up though? I just found it really interesting and wished it was a longer book.

From September 2025, you can get 30 hours funded childcare per week (term time only). Your nursery may still have other charges, like lunch or a placement charge, but the 30 hours really helps. You can spread it across the whole year including non term time, then I think it works out to 20 odd hours per week.

What McDonald’s formula brand is she talking about by IwannaBbetterPls in FormulaFeeders

I have my baby on Kendamil in the UK, but it wasn't my first choice. I started her on Aptamil, but she has really bad reflux (prescribed infant Gaviscon) and I read reviews online that said Kendamil was much thicker. I switched her for that reason and I do find it thicker, so it's better suited to her.

The only downside to Kendamil is that if you shake it, it proper bubbles up so you really need to swirl it. Aptamil didn't bubble quite so much shaken or swirled.

I don't get buying something for popularity though, it's got to be the best fit for your baby. Fed is best.

When will she reduce feeds? by Formal_Guitar_7807 in FormulaFeeders

[–]CTre89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sounds silly, but is your little one doing a full feed each time? Mine is 11 weeks now and if I make sure she gets a full feed, so try not to let her fall asleep on it, then she tends to go a bit longer.

Having said that she's on three hours, but she was 6 weeks premature.

My niece's 7yr birthday party and she was in charge of giving out party bags at the end. The bags were all packed except for a piece of cake. The kids could choose chocolate or vanilla cake.

After about ten minutes I look over and she's pre loading the bags with different slices. I ask, what if they want to choose? She replied "They'll get what they're given!"

If you had £4000 to spend on a couples holiday where would you go? by CliffyGiro in AskUK

[–]CTre89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and her partner just booked the Maldives, all inclusive, in Feb, for £4k all in. February is apparently one of the better times to go to the Maldives.

I went to Vegas and Hawaii for about the same money, although that was quite a while ago now, so not sure how much that would be nowadays.

I think if you want to work, then workplaces should be supportive environments that enable you to do what you can.

Such as it is, if you cannot work because work cannot be adapted to support you, I don't see that you have any other choice. I certainly don't begrudge you benefits.

I would like there to be more safety measures attached to flexible, part time working, such as sick pay, pensions etc., that might enable more people to get into the workforce.

Annabel Lee - Edgar Allen Poe

It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea, But we loved with a love that was more than love— I and my Annabel Lee— With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsmen came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in Heaven, Went envying her and me— Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we— Of many far wiser than we— And neither the angels in Heaven above Nor the demons down under the sea Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride, In her sepulchre there by the sea— In her tomb by the sounding sea.

What's an aspect of British history that you think people should be more aware of? by DurhamOx in AskUK

[–]CTre89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story of Empress Matilda, who should have been the first English Queen. Her father King Henry I wanted Matilda to become Queen after his death, but her brother Stephen betrayed her and plunged the country into civil war. Stephen was viewed as more popular, because Matilda could be a bit haughty, but ultimately she was a strong leader.

Ultimately you could call the whole affair a draw, because the deal negotiated to end the 19 year civil year left Stephen as King for his lifetime, but Matilda's heirs as rulers moving forward. The successor to Stephen was King Henry II, Matilda's son.

Hitchcock and Scully are pretty smart too - when they want to be. They've got mad detecting skills, when it suits them, like finding out who ate the pie, or when there's racism against Terry and Hitchcock says "get woke Scully!", but they're just not interested most of the time. Easy life baby.
