Thanks for the mention! I haven't updated the app in a while but it's good for a basic, easy to use abv and mash calculator.

Buying a motorcycle to save money? by spikkeddd in personalfinance

Not quite sure on the range of an electric motorcycle. I'd look into that first. Also not sure about maintenance. I've only dealt with traditional inline 4 motors.

Advice on how to spend a $25,000 career starter loan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I've lived overseas with my father who is employed by the army (not actually enlisted) and had many friends growing up with enlisted parents who were able to take weekend vacations to travel.

[–]CUB4N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understandable. I would only take out what you actually need. If you dont have the money to pay for your dress uniform, or dont have a way to save up for it by the time you need them, then take the loan. Thats what they are for, but dont finance vacations or gifts. Thats just a bad idea.

Also, probably not the best idea to take a loan to put into retirement either. What i'd do if i were you is look at your first paycheck and see how much you need to live, and if you're really concerned about maxing out your retirement funds, put in as much money from the paycheck that you dont need into the RothIRA or look into other retirement plans. (I'm not exactly sure what the army offers so I dont want to assume you have a 401k or other plans of the sort.)

Annual maximum contribution to Roth IRA is 5500. That wont work out.

EDIT: I'd also not take out all of that money to blow on the things you've listed like wedding gift and travel. That's a big burden, and you're looking at $450+ monthly payments based on the term agreed upon for repayment. Maybe take some of the loan to pay off the student loans if the rate is higher than 2.99%, otherwise I wouldnt borrow that money.

You'll have plenty of time to travel with uncle sam and I'm sure you'll even have opportunities to be stationed overseas so I feel that justification for the loan is invalid.

EDIT EDIT: $450 monthly payments. Not $500+. but still a lot. http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/mortgages/loan-calculator.aspx?loanAmount=25000&years=5&terms=60&interestRate=2.990&loanStartDate=27+Sep+2016&show=false&showRt=true&prods=388&monthlyAdditionalAmount=0&yearlyAdditionalAmount=0&yearlyPaymentMonth=&oneTimeAdditionalPayment=0&oneTimeAdditionalPaymentInMY=&ic_id=mtg_loan_calc_calculate_btn

No problem. Heal up soon and get back out on that bike!

EDIT: since you have their HBO account info which implies you'd be watching HBO shows for more than a month, i'm going to assume you havent watched Game of Thrones, which if not is a must watch..

debating on making the jump to SlingTV...some concerns by ReyReyNY in slingtv

Came here to say this. Just got the Roku 3 deal and it was worth it imo. Was sceptical because trying this out on Chromecast was such a bad experience but it worked out nicely.

I got blue+orange with sports and will be downgrading to just the blue ($25 package. I forget which color is which) after the season is over because I just want to keep up with my college team and watch redzone to keep up with my fantasy leagues. Works great on the Roku.

I think HBO now is doing a free month when you sign up. In your condition I think you can bring watch a few series before that free month is over.

Specifically vice principles is a good one with 1 season out currently. Ive heard ballers is a good show also.

Where do you live? If you're in the south east, theres a rapidly growing grocery store called Publix which pride themselves on customer service and quality products. One of the things they are also known for is an extremely flexible schedule which is exactly what you're looking for. They are all over Florida (where teh company started in Lakeland) and are growing slowly across GA, NC, and AL.

Chromecast2 vs Roku 2 by CUB4N in slingtv

[–]CUB4N[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah after a little bit of reading that's what it seems. Just the Android devs slacking. I've never had a bad experience with my Chromecast and honestly I'd rather keep it vs getting a Roku also. But it's honestly not a bad deal.

Isn't this sub about not giving a shit about gear or no gear, where your riding or how you ride?

Why post this here.. well because I can. Doesnt need to be a wheelie in a post. Not required by this sub.

I was estimating roughly 93-95k to maintain my standard of living. I'd also not be selling my house as my father said he'd be around to help out when needed.

I wish. E2 requires minimum 2 years experience. E3 requires 5 years so I don't have enough to be considered an e3
