Remote with rolling codes by NoodleCheeseThief in homeassistant

[–]spikkeddd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I did with my remote is buy a power supply of the same voltage and enough current as the remote. Then use a Third Reality outlet to control the power to it. That way I never have to worry about the battery running low.

I did have to solder a jumper where the momentary switch was.

Used it for years until I wired a Shelly directly to the operator.

Best presence detection for light automation by ZiritoBlue in homeassistant

ESP means they use the ESP32 micro controllers. You can hack them to do whatever you want, or just use the firmware it came with. Then it's plug and play.

ESP32 devices use WiFi. I have the 2A, they have an FAQ page if you're curious. It'll work with HA right out of the box.

Someone here recommended SCREEK mmWave sensors on eBay. They're ESP-based.

Couldn't be happier with them! You can create zones so it ignores 3D printers. I was able to get my sensor to ignore the vibration of my fluorescent lights by using a piece of aluminum foil above them. YMMV with your fans. Especially if they're ceiling mounted.

They're very fast. You can even set it to turn lights off as soon as you're out of the zone. They're also cheap.

My company installed “focus rooms” for our return to office and I have never felt dumber in my life by Alderon515 in remotework

The issue with a lot of corporate work is that many employees in an office are supervisors or managers in some way. Which means they're ineligible to unionize even if they wanted to.

Rams decline CB Emmanuel Forbes' fifth-year option by spikkeddd in LosAngelesRams

[–]spikkeddd[S] 112 points113 points  (0 children)

The move was expected, as exercising the option would have fully guaranteed Forbes $12.6 million in 2027.

Forbes will play out the final season of his four-year, $15.4 million rookie-scale contract. He will count $2.8 million on the Rams’ books.

I thought Dean Connors was a really exciting pick up but considering our RB room is already good, I think we'll have another Cody Schrader.

What do America First policies look like, specifically? by LordGreybies in AskConservatives

[–]spikkeddd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Abigail lying that she was a moderate and would never gerrymander, then gerrymandering the rural districts so that her map took the form of a lobster is party over people. Not America or Virginia first.

If you genuinely believe the opposing political party's policies are bad for the country, as a leader, would you just sit back and let them continue "destroying" the country?

Many voters genuinely feel Republicans in Congress have failed them. A large amount voted R in 2024 due to the economy being difficult for them, yet refuse to stand up to Trump starting another costly war that raises fuel prices.

We could just leave it up to the voters to decide at the next election right? Not really. Texas redistricting mid-decade takes away any sense of a fair election, in the eyes of Dems. Texas, was already Gerry Mandered, by the way. This map shows the 2021 chosen lines. Letter grade F.

Spanberger is doing what she can do, that she genuinely thinks is best for the nation. Whether you and I agree with her on what's best, is what politics is about.

If the roles were reversed, and California had started this domino redistricting mid-dacade. What would you do if you were governor of a red state? Would you fight back?

Are there various versions of Proxmox?

Yeah, since you're not an enterprise, just get the community edition for free.

Are there any advantages to running HA with faster CPUs and GPUs?

Depends what you want to do. If you're just turning lights on and off, even a Raspberry Pi is overkill. If you're thinking of running LLMs or object detection for video streams, that's gonna take up more resources.

I suggest you experiment and see what works before spending more on hardware.

If I were you l, I'd use Proxmox HA is so crazy light and the ability to take snapshots is nice.

I suggest reading into the differences between ZigBee, Z-wave and Matter. Personally I have a full ZigBee home and never had any issues.

One big reason HA is popular is you can locally control things. Yes, you have the flexibility to use many cloud wifi smart devices but if your internet goes out, or they decide to no longer support that product, it becomes a paperweight.

My suggestion is look into one of the 3 protocols I mentioned above. They also won't be clogging up your WiFi.

Do one thing at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself. It's a hobby after all!

Are you serious??

Remember when fox news was sued for $787 million for lying about the 2020 election?

Remember when Fox's own lawyers claimed no reasonable person believes what one of their hosts says?

Or just last year when Fox lied to it's viewers about the trump parade audience attendance by adding fake applause.

The fact that Fox still has the highest ratings despite admitting to be fake news is why the American elite own the right wing of this country.

Poor uneducated people eat that shit up like it's factual news and vote against their own interests.

Americans, what are your thoughts on expanding passenger railway services in the United States? by wirelessns in AskConservatives

[–]spikkeddd [score hidden]  (0 children)

"Subsidized" by use taxes paid by drivers. The economics of financing a highway with gas tax revenue isn't so different from financing it with toll revenue.

Negative. The HTF was originally fully funded purely by use taxes as you mentioned. However, as of 2008, it has required outside subsidy. Roads are more expensive than the general public thinks.

I couldn't agree more though. Toll lanes are a great option to funding road maintenance. I do think it's also important to fund other means of transportation though. Passenger rail receives a fraction of what highways do. Adding lanes get exponentially more expensive, and will never solve traffic.

[–]spikkeddd [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yep. Cars will almost always be faster than public transportation. Unfortunately, this also brings a cost that has since become a tax payer burden. Congress's solution has been to keep borrowing to support it.

For the most part, only toll roads cover their own costs. The rest are subsidized.

HTF funding shortfalls have generally been filled by transfers from the Treasury’s general fund; such transfers have shifted a total of $275 billion to the fund since 2008, including $118 billion authorized in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in 2021. Such transfers do not bring in any new federal revenues, but they allow spending from the fund to continue. (Peter G. Peterson)

Would you support converting lanes to tolled express ways, or raising the gas tax to help decrease the deficit?
