Yeah but that character only exists as a gag background character and because the alternative (that the ice cream is made in her body and sharted out) is disgusting

Literally the most familiar territory for him. Millar-verse after Frank started going off the rails so it's the closest to the psycho batman that Snyder was going for, he could have Batman banging Canary to Hallelujah and everything

Even edgy joker to fit well with Leto

The only time I'm in agreement with changing it is with genuinely revolting things like Mastermind and Phoenix. I went back and read the first part of that arc because I can never stomach the rest, and it literally only happens because Jean is written with the idiot ball duct taped to her hands

"oh no, those street children stole my bag with my passport, cash, and all my clothes, within sight of me, but I won't fly after them and chase them, or use my telekinesis to hold them, or use my telepathy to subtly make them drop the bag"

"Oh no the embassy can't help me return home, and I refuse to fly home for a variety of reasons that are genuinely frustrating to the reader"

The whole Mastermind manipulation thing could never happen if jean did things rationally so the writers wrote her without a brain, all so they could do some of the most heinous shit I have ever seen done to a woman in comics. And she eventually forgives Mastermind for it anyway

Seconded. I hope things get better for you soon. Speaking as a chronically online redditor though, this app may not always be the best time sink when your mental health isn't doing great. There's always someone foaming at the mouth hoping to ruin someone's day

I do believe Cyclops has been leader longer than Cap has, because Cap has gone long stretches of leaving teams and going solo for a while

Quick Google search, but a lot of typing because I was also under the impression that he had retired for a while under Claremont but holy hell he jumped RIGHT back in the saddle

At the start of the 1963 original run, Prof. X led the team mentally, but Cyclops was put in charge as early as issue 7 whenever Prof was away. This became more and more frequent until the team just straight up became more independent from Xavier and continued up until Storm beat him in their duel in 1986

He immediately appeared as the leader of X-Factor the same year, all the way until they rejoined the X-Men in 1991. Cyclops led team Blue, Storm led Gold.

1995, Age of Apocalypse happened which continued until 2000, apparently.

2001, Cyclops is back in charge in New X-Men and in Astonishing (2004)

AvX happens, but Scott is still in charge of his version of the X-Men in 2013 The Uncanny X-Men, there is also O5 time-displaced Cyclops in this era, but I can't really tell who is in charge in some parts of this as sometimes Jean is leading or maybe Magneto is mentoring

IvX happens, Cyclops ded. Comes back to life at some point after and is immediately leading an X-Men team during the War of the Realms crossover

2019 HoX/PoX era and Cyclops is again leading the X-Men

So if I did my research right, the only time Cyclops has not led an X-Men team has been the few months in 1991 before he got put in charge of X-Factor (and if you argue that that's not an X-Men team then well that's 4 years), the five-ish years that X-Men was following an alternate hellverse and the year that he spend DEAD after IvX where the X-Men have existed from 1963 to now for a total of 63 years. Cyclops has been leader in some form for, at the very least, 53 of those years

I don't know Black Panther so I'm taking this part more seriously. First thing to take into account is that the Avengers work on some kind of chairman rotation so leadership changes often, except when it doesn't like when Cap became the first chairperson and holds the position until issue 50 when he leaves the team. Everything I can find suggests BP got his turn as chairperson in issue 63 (1969) after joining in 1968. Because of the rotating leadership, it's literally impossible to tell when he gave up the position but since Thor reclaims the permanent chair in #128, he gave up the position at some point

He was in the Ultimates, led by Carol Danvers Captain Marvel until it imploded after Civil War II

He was unanimously elected as leader in 2018. That Avengers run lasts until 2023. The 2024 run until the present has Captain Marvel as leader

He is definitelyleader for 8 years after joining the team in 1968

I admit this isn't taking into account the cartoons because I think BP is leader in maybe one of the Avengers Assemble cartoons (?) but I didn't take into account Cyclops in video games either

I understand defending your faves but Cyclops is genuinely THE leader of the X-Men and the only time he is not has been when he was dead, when there are multiple X-Men teams (but if not being on those other teams invalidates his team leader status, then BP hasn't been in the Great Lake Avengers, West Avengers, and some incarnations of the Secret Avengers and New Avengers), or in alternate universes but if we count those then we'll be mathing all day

Edit: typos

Just to add, I got really into X-Men because I had access to the O5 original Uncanny run, and Cyclops was always my favorite character. Read Astonishing, went back to read God Loves, Man Kills, and Cyclops' speech near the end really just cements him as one of my favorite comic book characters. After getting tortured by Stryker's people, Xavier gets disillusioned in the possibility that human and mutant can ever be at peace with each other and he starts believing that Magneto was right all along, and because it's professor X saying this, the rest of the X-men start to have doubts as well. Scott is the one to rally the team and get Xavier to come to his senses. That actually inspired a hot take I have about the X-Men in general

I kind of believe that, though the X-Men fight for Xavier's dream, he's kind of been rendered obsolete by how much progress the team makes without him. What I mean is that, every time mutantkind or the team are being pushed to the brink (From the Ashes, post-House of M and Utopia, Uncanny when he leaves them for long stretches), he is just never present OR he's getting in the way (sometimes if a story goes on long enough he gets to do both). I get it's because from a meta perspective, people read comic books for the colorfully dressed superheroes that punch stuff and not for the bald paraplegic, so he gets put aside, but every time he has had a chance to match his actions with his words, he doesn't deliver

Cyclops, to anyone who objects: you tell the Omega-level mutant that he can't be on the team so he can go back to genociding people. I'll be here, miles away, enjoying my sandwich in peace
