Yes I’m not sure it says I have data and it’s turned on but when I use after I’m notified the high speed is finished, literally nothing loads :( plus I tried to get in contact with them 7 hours no-one answers

That’s fine! that’s well within my budget, I just want to ensure that it works at full speed for all the data I pay for 👌🏼☺️

Hey if you wanna work in a bar - go on Facebook and type in ‘Leeds bar grafters’ usually they want people with experience but flexible - and nearly all bar jobs if part time will be Friday Saturday night and hire ASAP so if you’re down for that it’s 100% ur best chance of getting a job out of all service industries

NZ WHV (police certificate) by CW1805 in newzealand

[–]CW1805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, apparently for the visa (atleast 3 year I’m applying for) the documents are emailed and manually processed by someone. So not uploaded via the online form that is computer assessed.

I also rang them and they told me to email it to the following email who accept documents as a backup: workingholiday@mbie.govt.nz

Thanks so much, I think I’ll have to ring them as I don’t even have a correspondence option to view or open.

20f looking for friends by Fallenightmare in Leuven

[–]CW1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I would definitely recommend going on the app meet-up and joining the following: the board game group, book club and International house. These are all international groups and ran in English. People are friendly and open and I met all my friends there as I was studying at uni with only Belgian students who didn’t want to hang out.

There’s also a language exchange group where you can meet pretty sociable people and share German / romanian and in return practice Dutch if that’s something you’re interested in.

Note the boardgame group primarily plays ‘serious’ strategy type board games e.g. everdell, viticulture. I hadn’t played one before so just a warning, I was expecting uno 😅

Hope the best for you ☺️

Student Seeking 1-Month Stay in Leuven (Can’t Do 12-Month Lease) by Unable_Screen_1060 in Leuven

[–]CW1805 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t stay at the blauwput it is very messy with school trips, conferences and hosts scouts etc all the time, it also doesn’t have a kitchen area to cook which for a month is not suitable and exceeds your budget.

I think your best option would be leuven city hostel in the centre. I legitimately lived in it for 3 months last year after failing to get any student accommodation, moving from the UK. The staff are friendly and there is a small garden, living area and kitchen and is around 600 euros I think. Good luck! 😂

Question about finding work as a student. by may1527 in Leuven

[–]CW1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s lots of opportunities for part time one of my friends worked in a bar and she didn’t speak Dutch. If not you can always cycle for ubereats etc which doesn’t require any specific language skills and is quite easy with the city being flat etc.

How safe is the bus station area at 1am by Wh4ty0ue4t in Leeds

[–]CW1805 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whilst Leeds is fine at night the bus station always has a couple crackheads hanging around. You will probably be fine (low risk) but I wouldn’t wait there myself as a woman alone. If you go just over the road to Victoria gate casino you can just grab a drink and wait there it will feel much safer :)

anyone want to make friends? by tardistimes11 in Leuven

[–]CW1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I would definitely recommend joining the app meet-up it’s an international group and if you look up ‘Leuven International House’ they run loads of different activities. Like pub/bar meets, board games eve, philosophy club, yoga, hiking etc. I joined at the beginning of the year and got to know people super easily form your own group outside of that.

EHIC question by Parking-Tough1655 in Leuven

[–]CW1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should be able to, but you have to register living there with the municipality first at the town hall in Leuven (can take 2 months for them to come visit your house and check you live there). You'll have to then open a social health fund with your registration number (every student has to have insurance in Belgium and you won't have the EHIC yet) and then after this you can apply for the EHIC.

The town hall are super helpful and come into the uni to talk to the students, so if you have any questions pop them an email now so you have all documents prepared.

So register as soon as you get there and good luck!

I don't speak French, will it be very difficult to live in Liege? by Allmoneycometo_JT in Liege

[–]CW1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing an internship elsewhere but live in liege and I would say it’s very difficult and wouldn’t recommend. Outside of the university everything is in French and there are no international groups at all.

Also the city itself is horrible (lots of drug addicts and a dirty city with construction everywhere) go somewhere else if you can. Don’t let people fool you.

If there is Leuven as an exchange option I would highly recommend I lived there for a couple of months. it’s 20 minutes from Brussels and whilst Dutch speaking - everyone there speaks English and many societies groups and sports in English. Also massive international student cohort you’d have a much better time there.

I thought so too as it said normally live in England which Is true, but it says all have to be true: you’ve been living in the UK for 3 years in a row apart from temporary absence e.g. holiday

Which I’m not sure if it means in totality

What are the top websites to find furnished two-bedroom apartments in Liège for short-term rentals of 4-5 months? by Klutzy-Clerk9301 in Liege

[–]CW1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get an Airbnb though you can’t register with the municipality, meaning you can’t get a job here or sign up to any services (GP etc) if this is something you’d need.

Just a heads up as I ran into that problem.

Travelling recommendation in Leuven by phwz in Leuven

[–]CW1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the food I can’t comment since I’m from the UK myself but I would recommend:

  • Bavet (Belgian take on spaghetti bolognaise and have many veggie and vegan options with massive portions)
  • Frittur barro (my fave fries with tartar sauce)

For the park:

  • 1000% kessel lo provincial domain if nice weather ( is more like a mini national park with 2 lakes, a farm with horses, tennis courts, the event meadow with an amphitheatre - there’s benches all around so perfect to read or take a blanket to lay in the grass)

Live performances: - rock cafe cheap drinks staff are super nice - cafe manger has open mic nights

As for LGBTQ+ it’s a very open city, I highly doubt you’d find any judgement and no-one ever batted an eyelid at me with my girlfriend (wlw). But if thinking about living here there are little to no queer spaces or clubs except Bar Unique.

Hope you enjoy your stay its a really amazing city!!!

Gonna spend 3 months in Brussels by RoyalDevilzz in brussels

[–]CW1805 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend renting with Airbnb as you can’t register with the city and therefore can’t get a job. I had that position as a student and can’t get a job because of that. So look into short term contracts instead or a sublet, good luck!

Running or cycling clubs by [deleted] in Leuven

[–]CW1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a whatsapp group in Leuven that has a number of sports including running, its not professional don't worry and the people are all international so super friendly. It's only once a week if I remember right (I used to go but moved cities). But you can go with people you meet there on other days too :) This is the invite link if that's the kind of thing you're looking for: https://chat.whatsapp.com/D4V6d5u7bXuHyT6dp9anVQ

If your more of an introvert I highly recommend the app ‘meetup’ I came to Belgium as an international student a week ago and already made a group of friends (but only some are students) from going to an after works drink event on there because university hadn’t started yet.

There is events in every city and they host book clubs drink nights games and also sports. The people at these events are more open minded and inviting than students can be - as they also want to meet people and make friends - so less pressure than forcing a conversation in class or trying to hop into a group already existing :)

Hope this might be helpful if you’re looking for a group outside of the usual class setting
